Guys and or gals, I think you may have missed the point in what WG said. She wasn't referencing on the field or off the field incidents or even comparing them. She was commenting on the rest of the article where MI acted insulted that anybody would ask him about using stickum... as if he had never done anything in his life a bit shady or questionable to warrant these questions. And before you jump in and say "MI may have had his off the field issues but he would never cheat"... just remember nobody was questioning Jerry Rice about cheating before now, he was viewed as squeaky clean. She was talking about his faux enragement about being asked if he used stickum too "because everybody did it."

Not really.. I've said my opinion and I don't think it's that difficult to understand. People want to parse up on-field behavior vs off-field behavior. If you've done dirt to muddy up your character, then I'm going to side-eye you every time. Same as I'm side-eyeing Jerry Rice.

But you aren't making much sense. You said that Irvin's off the field problems impacted his on the field performance. How? If you say something like that then at least explain it. He didn't miss games, he didn't affect his teammates, he showed up to practice, stayed late after practice. I'm not sure how you come to that conclusion.

You're equating Ray Lewis and what he did to Irvin. Are you serious?

Yes. Both from the U, broke the law, were given second chances, were HoF players and vocal leaders. They both rub people the wrong way as examples of hypocrites and loud mouths.

Ummm, to play devil's advocate... he did miss 4 or 5 games because he was suspended for his off the field actions that one year... so he actually did miss games because of his antics... just saying.

I would say missing games because of suspension did hurt his on field performance in a matter of speaking.

I know he did. My point is to generally say that Irvin's off the field impacted his on the field is ridiculous. He was suspended for that stretch of games but that was not the norm. It's not like he was Pacman Jones or something and just constantly getting suspended for something or violating team rules. Most if not all of Irvin's teammates I've heard all say the same things about Irvin a hard worker, dedicated, a leader.

Actually cheating on the field to gain a competitive advantage is way worse than having some off field problems while also playing the game with integrity is. Not even a comparison.

Michael never blatantly cheated on the field.

That is the point he is making and what should be the focus but someone decided to make the focus about something else.

Meh, Irvin did other bad things while he played, so I'm team ignore the false self-righteousness from his side of the wing. lol

Off the field isn't cheating.

Being a bad boy off the field and cheating by breaking rules of the game during the game isn't really parsing anything. Imo. One is cheating one isn't. :D

it also isn't very well thought out, which is why people are questioning your point

It's totally well thought out.. Maybe not well-written and I'm willing to give that to a couple of y'all. But I mean, if you get my point, then you get it, even if you disagree with it.

I think it was the "did other bad things while he played" that we took exception to. I think we all read that to mean he was doing other bad things while playing, not while having a career.

But being known for a bad actor during his playing days era doesn't entitle you to the benefit of the doubt, IMO. He can be all self-righteous as he wants, but if an accusation of cheating had come out during his playing days, would any of us been surprised?

Then please simply explain it.

Adam did it for me which is why I hammer nailed it.. You're welcome to go back and re-read it.

Yeah, ok. Like I said, it's all relative. Irvin did his dirt. It's well-known and I choose to ignore the self-righteousness coming from him on this topic, because of that.

Having said that, I totally think he's on the straight and narrow now and is genuinely a good dude, so I don't take that away from him.

Really Mike should get a pass for the White House, etc. type stuff but the McIver stabbing during TC is probably what stings the most for his rep with die hards. That was a, "what the () Mike?", moment for me. He is still my favorite player, so what does that say about my standards:D
