Actually cheating on the field to gain a competitive advantage is way worse than having some off field problems while also playing the game with integrity is. Not even a comparison.

Michael never blatantly cheated on the field.

Cheating at football, but being squeaky clean off the field is worse than playing football with integrity while being a serial killer in the offseason? That what your words imply to me. That football > anything else outside the sport.

Stick'um paste was banned because of the mess it made on the ball. I don't think the nfl cared about the spray which came out later since it did not leave anything on the ball. I also don't think there was a way for the refs to even tell.

There are two kinds of Stick'um. The first is an aerosol spray that is moderately effective for improving grip. A little bit of this stuff goes a long way. A quick spritz on each hand is good enough to notice a difference in grip.

The other kind of Stick'um is a paste that comes in jars. This stuff is an even more effective grip enhancer. It's a waxy substance that is sticky as glue. It's also incredibly messy and the residue transfers onto everything it touches, including the football. It's similar to pine tar in baseball, where a batter puts a little bit of it on their gloves and then it gets all over the player's baseball bat, helmet, uniform and anything else he touches.

If your off-the field antics impact your on-field performance, that can be just as egregious..

I like Mike. I really do. I just can't get up for his self-righteousness over something like this when every time he speaks, I can see the many skeletons still chilling in his closet.
If he didn't break any rules on the playing field he gets to be self-righteous over this. It's pretty simple. Rice admitting this so late in the game is crazy considering what he said about Brady. Irvin dominated people with his play. Now if it comes out he was on peds..well that's a different story.

I wasn't referring to anybody but Michael. As evidenced by my second sentence in my post. The original post started out between 2 players, Rice and Irvin, nobody else.

Murdering people doesn't cheat the integrity of the game. OJ was still a great player just a very bad citizen.
I think he meant how cheating on the field impacts the game and it's integrity and the players on the field integrity. Not really how good of a person they are.

That shows character in a person. If he could be the last guy in a heist, he would beo_O But honestly JR is still a great player, he's just human.

Anyone who didn't cheat gets to be indignant when asked if they are a cheater. Seems pretty simple.

Had a player been cut in a 'barbering accident' and people asked Irvin about it on Twitter I doubt he'd respond so vehemently.

Great point. No way Rice was using the gooey Lester Hayes type stuff.

Today's gloves have more tack and grip than any of that old stuff.

Pffft...

You should realize by now that using stickum to cheat in the game of football is for more dastardly than stabbing a man with a pair of scissors, please.

I guess you would have just taken the beating. It was a fight, he was outweighed by 100 lbs, he tried to even the odds. I do not advocate stabbing anyone, but in a fight, things happen. Sometimes very tragic things.

Drugs and shady women were a choice however. Just like Jerry Rice cheating by using stickum. Or crying and wailing on every play. One happened on the field the other didn't.

I'm appalled that a respected member of the board would take a pot-shot at Michael Irvin... quite frankly, we don't win 3 Super Bowls
without him... we don't even get to the first one.

The context is "cheating on the field"... How many times do people have to beat up Irvin for off the field stuff?... He's showed remorse...
he should've been a first ballot HOFer but they made him wait a year because of his off the field stuff... he stood in front of his family
and the football world and apologized during his HOF speech... (from the heart, no notes)

Sorry to go here but... ahem... girls aren't in the locker room or the weight room or the training room or the practice field... so a girl
probably doesn't understand that there is a football integrity... when a great player is asked how does he want to be remembered
and he says "that I played my heart out for my teammates" or something to that affect, he's holding on to the one last true and pure
thing in his life... he can go home and love his family and even be successful beyond his playing days... but nothing replaces what
it was like to work hard with teammates that respected you and knew you were working toward the same goal.

Bottom line... everybody remembers his off the field stuff... on the field, he was A BEAST!... and to cheat would have tarnished
something, the last thing, pure and true to his heart... So let the man have his day and don't bash him on a message board that
is supposed to be full of Cowboys fans.

Yes, I probably would have taken a beating but at least I wouldn't have stabbed a man. lol.

However, it was just a tongue in cheek comment directed at Irvin, just me clowning around. I totally understand the situation.

I love Irvin, even more so now he's part of the media, I just think him acting all insulted is funny.
