OXNARD, Calif. — The symbolic start to this Cowboys season came a few minutes after 4 o’clock Pacific Time Tuesday afternoon when the team’s charter put wheels down at Naval Air Station Point Mugu.

But coaches and players will tell you this landing is far from the start. The groundwork for this season was laid during the previous months of organized team activities and mini-camp. The approach this team will carry over the next 31 days of training camp and into the regular season is already in place.

“I think that’s kind of the strength of our team,” Pro Bowl guard Zack Martin said moments after he stepped off the plane. “Everyone has the same goal and everyone comes to work the same way every day.

“Nothing is taken for granted.”

The Cowboys carry an attitude that a 12-4 record and division title buys them nothing this time around.
