Shhhhhh.....don't say that too loud, they might hear you.

I figure it wouldn't be straight up, Roy probably has a little more value, but that is something that would really give us the shaft.

They wouldn't do that because Roy will be gone from Cincinnati after the season...

As much as I find CJ irritating and stupid as hell, the guy is a beast. He's averaged 90 plus receptions over the last 4-5 years. No doubt, he would have a major impact on this offense.

They could always do it contigent on a long term deal being done between the good Roy and the Bengals.

I just don't think Roy wants to play anywhere but Dallas. If he can't play in Dallas, he'll choose another team closer to home...

OK, I'm officially against Johnson coming here. I've never really supported the idea, but I didn't speak out against it either.

Here's why. There are three WRs everyone talks about us trading for: Johnson, Williams and Boldin. No one will argue that any of the three would be an incredible addition to the club.

But here's my argument.

Williams is in a less than stellar situation with Detroit, but he's already come out and said that if he isn't traded, he will gladly play for the Lions. Granted, it would probably be for his last season.

Boldin, the Cardinals' No. 1 receiver, watched Fitzgerald get major bank and hasn't uttered a negative word (that I've seen) about it. He, from what I can draw from my cranium, hasn't demanded a trade.

Williams and Boldin are the character guys you want on your team. They produce and don't cause ripples in the water.

Johnson, IMHO, is wanting to walk away from a high-powered offense in Cincy and a QB who can get it to you anywhere on the field. The only reason he wants to move on is his feelings got hurt by Marvin Lewis. He's like the little kid on the field that gets picked on, so he wants to gather his toys and go home. I'd rather draft a rookie who may not produce this year than get this head case.

That's all I gotta say about that.

Well said, those reasons you lay out (along with age) are also why Chad would come cheaper than Roy or Boldin.

I disagreed with you until that last part, I agree with that totally.

..people get the idea we can just scoop these guys up who want to leave their current teams and come to Dallas.

There is a thing called the cap and the future.

A guy like this is going to want to redo his deal immediately, the trading team is going to have to eat his bonus on his current deal to do it..

and we are going to end up bringing in another $10mil WR to the roster..?

With what dinero..? And whom(s) do we not re-sign next year to do this..?

We just can't really consider this unless he decides he'll take a sort of Pacman/Tank Johnson deal to come here. And that ain't going to happen.

And what happens to the Hamlin and MBIII and Canty deals on the burner now waiting for funding..? How much do you think their deals are going to increase if they see Dallas suddenly trading for a new player(s) with a mega-deal attached to come here..?

It's going to move their asking prices up substantially...to be sure..conpounding the whole cap situation for next year.

It all has a cumulative effect if it's not managed well right now. Do fans not see that..?

The only reason #85 wants to come here is the possibility of cashing in big with Jerry Jones.

Now, if this was before we did the Flozell deal, then maybe there was cap to squeeze had he been let go to sign elsewhere.

But now..?

We have to still get MBIII and Hamlin done with their deals, Canty and his, Spears has to be decided on DTR, TO will be opening up his Brink's Truck shortly for a refill and it would be very smart if we tried to redo Ware's deal before there isn't a big enough Brink's Truck made to haul his new money away he's going to get.

Oh and let's not forget the Annual Whine from Greg Ellis to have his deal now redone after making the Pro Bowl finally. What do you think he's going to want if Ocho Cinco comes dancing into Dallas for the mini-camps sporting the latest multi-million $$ deal from Jerry Jones..?

He'll need at least $5 mil a year..watch.

Where do people think this is all coming from..?

Weird. Stop all this babbling about signing/trading these mega-salary guys that other teams don't want to pay. There is a reason these teams aren't paying them themselves.

It's because the other teams want to be able to afford the rest of 'their' teams by not overpaying or keeping these guys that want to now come to Dallas.

Don't fans have clue..? This team had gotten into problems so badly with the concept of overpaying and over-extending player contracts that we had to suffer thru a decade of being non-competitive.

Let's just quietly take our draft picks ( insanely cheap compared to trades/FA acquisitions) and just get better and younger like we have been doing for the last 2-3 years.

We can actually win without the Pacmans' and the Detroit Roy Williams' and the Cinci #85 overpriced sideshows of the NFL and stay cap capable and win for the next 3-5 years like the Pats have done.

What a concept.

Cowboys owner/GM Jerry Jones has a sly way about him. As such, it should come as no surprise that he had a ready-made answer when asked about the possibility of dealing for a veteran receiver with one of the team's first-round picks.

So Jerry, would you consider a deal for Anquan Boldin, Roy Williams or Chad Johnson?

"Yes," he deadpanned, before filling a brief silence with a smile and a wink.

Maybe that should get you excited. Maybe it shouldn't.

Jerry should have been asked what the odds are in making such a deal. Or, has he talked to Detroit, Arizona or Cincy about a deal regarding any of the three?

Of course he "would consider" a deal. That was a weak effort in phrasing a question.

guys, maybe good news, chad johnson just said on nfl network that he doesnt ever want to play for bengals again, he wont attend any pratices or training camp, and for QB palmer to stay out of it,

so what do you guys think, maybe we can get him for our 2009 first round draft choice, keep our 2 first this year and get some good players, maybe even use our 28th pick trade down alittle and get an extra third and 5th, along with a 2nd for trading with atlanta, etc,

I wouldn't even trade a pee-pot for him.

With a draft class seriously lacking in 1st round WR talent, I'd trade our 28th overall for #85. He's just turned 30, stays healthy and is productive. We could get 3-5 years out of him which would be worth it to me as we make serious Super Bowl runs for the next 3-5 years.....

If Roy is worth the 28th pick at 26 years of age, and maybe 8 good years left, shouldn't Chad at 30 years and 4 years left, be worth less?

Well, my opinion on this has not changed. I believe that what we should be trying to do here is trade down with 28 and pick up a high 2nd in the bargin. I really would like to trade with Miami or Atlanta. Those second round picks would either be the first pick of the 2nd rd (Miami) or the 3rd pick of the 2nd rd (Atlanta). I would then go to Detroit, Arizona and Cincy and basically offer that pick for either Williams, Boldin or Johnson. There might be a team who would offer up a 1st Rd pick for one of those players but I don't see three teams doing that. If Atlanta were the team we worked a deal out with, then only the Fins or the Rams would be in a position to offer a higher 2nd and neither of those teams really need WRs that badly IMO. One of those teams, IMO, would take a high 2nd rd pick for one of those WRs. At that point in the draft, there will still be good WR options on the board and they could simply use that second to backfill. To me, that's the smartest way to do this but that is just my opinion.
