Should Matt Jones be a fallback plan if Jets steal Miles Austin?

The Cowboys want to keep Miles Austin, but the Jets can make that very difficult to do if they put a poison pill in their contract offer to the restricted free agent.

If that happens, the Cowboys get the Jets' second-round pick (52nd overall), and then what?

Todd Archer took a look at the likelihood of finding an immediate impact receiver in the second round.

Another option would be to sign troubled ex-Jaguar Matt Jones to a low-risk contract.

There was speculation that Jerry Jones would go after his fellow ex-Razorback as soon as the Jaguars released Jones, a 2005 first-round pick who has had a disappointing career and is dealing with legal troubles stemming from a drug arrest. That hasn't happened.

But the 6-6, 218-pound Jones, who has sub-4.4 speed, might be worth a shot if the Cowboys can't keep the guy they're counting on to be their big, fast field-stretching receiver.

sure, cause drug users and dealers never make that mistake again.

lets sign more unreliable trouble makers.

I don't mind bringing him in for cheap and letting him compete (even if we keep Austin), but no guaranteed money and it can't affect the draft plan.

No, cause whats your Matt Jones backup plan.

i dont think i want him either, because remember what commissioner goodell said, teams that sign troubled players or draft them, that the commissioner might fine that team or take draft picks away

and the commissioner hasnt suspended matt jones yet, he is due a suspension

Unreliable is the key word.

As long as we can get him cheap, it would be alright. I believe that he would make a change in Dallas. He just might have learned his lesson. But it is what it is if he just happens to end up in a Dallas uniform.:star: :star: :star:

Melle Mel said it best in the song White Lines. "Don't do it".

Timmy gets paid for this?

Unfortunately, yes, Timmy gets paid for this because editors now-a-days tell these guys to write this tabloid-ish stuff because nothing sells better than controversy - without caring that it's based on unsubstantiated speculation.

We finally get the locker room cleaned out a bit and you want to bring in a coke head/dealer? We need good media attention...we had enough bad attention last season to cover a decade.

Want to bet your life on that?

I'd rather get kicked in the balls, and I gotta tell you, I don't really like getting kicked in the ball.

I don't believe you... :D

Back on topic, I've got a sleeper name for you among the FA wide receivers-- Kelley Washington... he's never had a chance to show what he has, being used mostly on special teams, but he has a rare blend of size and speed (6-3, 216 pounds, 4.4 second 40)...

He could probably be had for a league minimum type contract at this point... I've been following him since he came out of college, because he played his high school ball about 5 minutes from where I'm typing this, and for a while I worked with a guy who went to high school with him...
