DMN: Sporting News writer: Greg Hardy has rendered himself 'almost untouchable'

He is a woman beater.........only way a team would give him a shot is if they thought he was good for 15+ sacks.

Hardy showed he isn't, thus he is not worth any team getting destroyed in the media for signing a woman beater.

Besides, it looks a little hypocritical for the NFL to be doing public service announcements with their "NO MORE" campaign with players like Elie Manning just staring into the camera and then to have teams hand players involved in domestic abuse million dollar contracts. That is why players like Ray Rice and Greg Hardy basically have the "Scarlett mark" now and everybody avoids them like the plague.

That is the real essence of this.

It is very. VERY. Political.

That is all there is to it.

thats total bs

see donte stallworth
see ray lewis(for some reason a god in nfl circles, hypocrits)

sign him jerry.......................this team needs talent, he's got it, he will be a damn sight better this year than last.

he aint the reason we stunk up the joint last year

I agree.

Too much was expected and I felt the rest of the defense didn't meet their expectations, either.

Like everything Cowboy..it gets overhyped and overstated.

If he's not in shape..write a contract that requires attendance with the trainers in the off season and during the season. Tie incentives to it.

If he needs help..assign a chaperone to him like they did with Dez.

There are ways to work with it and get him going correctly.

I'm not so sure there isn't a behavior issue as bipolar has been mentioned..address it.

He doesn't have to be Reggie White.

Just be supporting but be firm.

We need him and he needs us. He just needs to embrace his opportunities.

Hardy commanded a lot of double teams for a lazy guy that was out of shape.

I buy the idea that he didn't put out the effort once the team's record tanked, but I don't buy that he was out of shape and lazy the entire year.

I think it had more to do with them flipping Crawford and Velcro inside moreso than anything else.

This article is the author stating his opinion and little more. Hardy has had no legal trouble since he left Carolina and you would think that the longer he goes without incident that the less the press would vilify him. At this point it's lazy copy or punitive behavior. I'm not a big fan of the paradigm of blame and retribution.

Maybe you need more fact based evidence than a lot of us on the zone. I for one do not. I did not want him here and I don't want him back.
I don't need any facts because I have made my opinion about the guy as a lot of others have here on the zone. Some want him back even
if Jerry had to break the bank open to get him. Even if he would sign a vet minimum deal for 2 years I would not want him on this team.
I pretty much think he's a thug and I wish the Raiders would hurry up and sign him. IMVHO.

Not exactly a sign of intelligent thinking.

Just once, I'd like to see one if these articles actually provide some solid examples of bad behavior rather than taking the easy, lazy course quoting something "reported" elsewhere.

Is it too much to ask that a purported journalist do some level of work to support what they're claiming in a story?

so the lack of interest doesn't at all point to any of this being true? there is literally no interest in him. this time last year, he was signed, has to be some reason.

You mean once the Cowboys are desperate? Now is the time to strike.

I can see both sides of the argument. Sign him now and you have the certainty going into the draft, but after the draft there will be something like 7 - 10 teams that just picked up a bonus baby DE in the first or second round. More players at the position = less demand = even less suitors for Hardy.

I have no idea what the real story is, I think the Cowboys have either completely cut ties to Hardy or they are just waiting for the market to set him price knowing it will be way, way lower than last year. If it was me I would sign him now like you say, but objectively I think the Cowboys will wait till after the draft.

Thing that cracks me up is that Hardy demanded that a clause be put in his contract last year that the Cowboys could not Franchise Tag him this season.

It was a good move by his agent. If Hardy plays like his 15 sack season, he makes a lot more money than the franchise tag so its a smart move. If he has a bad season, the tag won't be offered to him so it doesn't matter. His agent got the upside but no downside.

I hope some of you "football guys" are smart enough to know that he wasn't gonna have a good year last year. Too much time off. Too many distractions. And most importantly, a new system to learn. Add that to having almost zero help inside, and it wasn't going to happen. If he signs this year , he will get paid next year after what will be a huge year.

On top of that he was hungover a lot too. Have you ever tried to do physical labor while hungover? If you're at 60% of your regular self then you're doing good.

This is where the cowardice of the NFL annoys me. If a player disgusts you to such a degree that you'll make it nigh impossible for him to find a job, ban him for life. I would have a lot more respect for an outright banning than all of this passive-aggressiveness.

Cowboys may need to bring back this troubled player
http://thelandryhat.com/2016/04/01/cowboys-need-back-troubled-player/

The Dallas Cowboys may be forced to turn to this troubled player unless they can improve their defense through free agency or the draft.
Free agency has been open for a little over three weeks now, and the Dallas Cowboys haven’t exactly been big spenders on the market. The team has brought in some bargain deals such as defensive tackle Cedric Thornton, but no big names that will cause breaking news. And that’s just fine.

While many fans clamor for the marquee names to be added to their favorite teams, handing out massive sums of money usually comes back to bite the team. However, teams do want to leave free agency feeling like they have shored up issues in problem areas of their roster, and it’s not certain the Cowboys can say that.

They added to the middle of the defensive line in Thornton, added some offensive line flexibility in Joe Looney, and added a young rotation player to the pass rush in Benson Mayowa.

The biggest issue on this team is the pass rush. Mayowa may be a good rotational player, but that’s not enough to solidify this pass rush into a unit that can push into a playoff spot. All of the big names are off the market, and the team didn’t want to shell out that kind of money anyway. That leaves one player to reunite with: defensive end Greg Hardy.

Many fans probably got sick at their stomach reading that last line, and that’s understandable. What Hardy did to get himself suspended last season is despicable, and the distractions he caused the team last season became a constant headache for Cowboys fans. But he was above average on the field while knocking off the rust and dealing with some nagging injuries.

With DeMarcus Lawrence settling in nicely at the left defensive end position, and last year’s second round pick Randy Gregory getting himself a four-game drug suspension, the team needs a talented player to line up over the opposing teams best blocker. Hardy has shown he’s as complete as a defensive end can get, if he can just stay out of the headlines for the wrong reasons...
