Is there a point?

instead of trying to hand down bro science or old man truths why not look at actual data.

the two teams that met in the super bowl had 7 sacks between them in 6 playoff games.

the thought pressure wins is so insanely simplified and over-inflated.
NE won the Super Bowl on a play where there was zero pressure because it was a 3 step drop.
pass rush had zero effect on that play and many others.
you gotta play solid defense at all 3 levels.

dallas can absolutely stand to upgrade it's pass rush... but not at any cost.
stephen said they'd be efficient because he has learned that is how you win in the NFL.
in the salary cap era of football it is about outperforming what you can pay.

Great, here we go again. JT trying to call everybody else who he doesn't agree with stupid or old or just plain inferior. It gets old JT. Go ahead and look at the data. 19th overall Defensively. 11th out of 12 teams in the playoffs Defensively. 26th against the pass. 10th out of 12 teams against the pass in the playoff. 28th rated team in the league in sacks. This whole 3 step drop argument is all well and good but that's not what happened to us. Teams averaged 7.5 YPA against our defense. that's good for 20th. The lowest rank for any playoff team. You don't think that's relivent? Well, against Rogers, a one legged QB, he averaged over 9 yards an attempt. He wasn't doing three step drops all day and getting rid of the ball quickly. He was going down field on us. Rogers had 11 completions of 10 yards or more. That's roughly 46% of all of his completions for over 10 yards.

Nobody is talking about spending whatever it costs (except you) but that's a cool story Bro.

It has nothing to do with being stupid. It has everything to do with being lazy.
What you wrote was completely incompatible with the actual facts of what happened. (Can't beat GB and/or win a SB without a pass rush)
You were asking hypothetical/s we already had answers to.

As to the NEW data... that says nothing at all about your points.

Overall defense and defense versus the pass isn't tied to pass rush pressure statistically.
If it was Dallas would be a better pass defense than Seattle.

The two teams that met in the Super Bowl had arguably the best two secondaries in football.
They also had quality players on all 3 levels and very few weaknesses.

Dallas needs to be better defensively. But there is zero proof the way to get better is just build up the DL or to spend big money anywhere.
The method of last off-season-- to add good values in free agency and draft quality players-- worked.
The people who thought they'd toss that aside to go back to making splashy signings are miserable today.

Basically what I have suggested would happen has thus far.
It doesn't require any specific level of intellect to pay attention and look at the data.
