News: DMN: Stephen Jones: Cowboys will be ‘efficient’ in free agency

Prediction 1: We will sign AJ Hawk

Prediction 2: BTB will talk about how shrewd of a move it was and people will talk themselves into it

very true. but for every manning i can give you ryan leaf. haynesworth. there's a huge list of big name busts that when they got to a new team, it was seldom the same. people tend to act like those who were "meh" elsewhere are always going to be that way and when you remember the dynamics of a HOT player, you always tend to see that player in that light and think he will do the same everywhere.

the only thing anyone can do is the best they can with the staff in place. while again i understand where you're coming from, i can point to the Commanders and say "yea, buying all the big names has worked, huh"?

And I wouldn't begin to disagree with you, but I think the list of success stories specific to free agent pass rushers is different.

@FuzzyLumpkins had a great point the other day in mentioning how 'portable' pass rushers are and how well they typically do after changing addresses.

In addition, plenty of research is available regarding how much rookie pass rushers struggle in their first few years in the league. Few, if any have immediate success.

Yes let's go out and sign all the big names. That's worked so well for so many teams in the past. You don't win that way.You win by drafting quality players, starters and filling in the rest of you team with players who fit your scheme and salary cap.

Can you point me to the quote where I advocated doing that?

Thanks in advance.

I would like to see us pick one big defensive stud, then be prudent on other pickups (RB, CB LB etc).

That's what I'm looking for. Sign one big-time pass rusher and fill the rest of the needs through the draft, because you're not going to get your impact pass rusher there.

I would be surprised if Dallas gets Hawk. Not sure how he would fit in and at this stage would be more of a backup player.

Oh I don't know the one I originally quoted you on. You don't need to sign big names or A big name to win in this league and if you do doesn't mean you get first tier results.

I have to say that this news disappoints me. I feel that second-tier signings mean second-tier results.

It's great that they want to tout the success they had with Mincey, but for every one of him, I can give you two Nate Livings.

You're welcome.

If we don't resign Murray, then we need to look to FA for a solid running back. A rookie I wouldn't trust no matter how high his grade. A first round DL on the other hand could easily be trusted.

If Murray is gone, I say we get CJ Spiller from the Bills they just picked up Shady. McCoy will struggle in Buffalo behind that OL, while Spiller will blossom behind ours.

Fail.

That post refers to quality, not quantity.

Anything else you'd care to be completely wrong about?

LOL Way to backtrack on what you said. And you can get quality in 2nd tier players and thru the draft and not overspend. You were wrong on what you said and now you don't know what to say except use silly emoticons that don't help your situation.

Actually, they massively overpaid Livings and ended up eating a decent amount of dead money on a bad player with bad knees, that is the tragic part of it.

lol, no kidding...I'm thrilled and love the restraint being displayed so far

If Romo was 5 years younger maybe. By the time they draft and develop a good defense we will be looking for a new QB. Look around the league good QBs are very hard to come by.

I'm not backtracking a single thing. Too bad if you can't read.

I've said repeatedly that I'm looking for one big money free agent. Too bad for you that you have to try to twist reality and try to misrepresent what I actually said.

Everyone else around here has great reading comprehension and was able to understand. I guess you need more practice.

This.... I think we have 2 more romo years... If we building for the future we need to find his replacement sooner than later...

I actually think that the Eagles' plan is to replace McCoy with CJ Spiller.
