I didn't watch the game but from the posts on here one does have to question that 2nd half game plan.

I agree and do not expect a backup QB to take it on his own too alter the game plan. That is Garrett and Linehan responsibility. I like both these coaches and just as I will call out Weeden for a poor int he threw I will call out the coaches for not taking shots down the field when Alt was bringing up guys to the LS.

"Our game plan was early, and obviously it worked real well, is we thought that we could work the underneath part of their coverage and run the football," Cowboys executive vice president Stephen Jones said Monday on 105.3 The Fan's G-Bag Nation show [KRLD-FM]. "Of course, the first half we did that real well. I think you got to give the Falcons a lot of credit, they adjusted. We didn't probably adjust as well as we needed to. We probably needed to be going to the outside group [of receivers] as they changed and adjusted there in the second half."

I really don't buy this notion that the Cowboys tailored their game to dink and dunk. There were receivers running deep routes. The question is were they getting enough separation in their routes or does Weeden not trust his arm. Unfortunately, the only way to answer that question is to look at the tape...which I have neither the access, time or motivation to do.

Based on JG press conference today it seems that Weeden was content to keep throwing the underneath stuff long after it wasn't working.

I guess people are bored of blaming Weeden and the defense so now it's the coaches turn.
I guess they need to call plays where the QB doesn't have a safety value so he is forced to throw outside.
The plays have options. How can we blame the coaches if Weeden is fixated on the underneath options?

Great post. JG said in his press conference that the receivers were winning some battles even if the window is tight the QB has to fit the ball on when you have single coverage mismatches.

Well, the talent running the routes might have a lot to do with it. Can Beasley run routes outside the numbers effectively? Witten? Dunbar? Seems to me the personnel groupings were far from the ones to do what he is referring to.

The coaches have to put the packages/players on the field for the effect to take place.

Yep.

Weeden was not the same after he threw the INT. He was gun shy and you could tell he was determined not to make another mistake to lose the game. To be fair-- the offense did put up 28 points at home, and that should get you the W most days.

IMO-- the defense made zero big plays in the game, and absolutely cratered in the 2nd half. Our offense struggled-- but the D struggled more overall.

Because Weeden still has to go to the sideline and coaches can tell him. After the game is not going to help. Your telling me that the coaches could not tell Brandon "hey alt defense is moving up you need to test them deep" I agree plays have option and they also work on a game plan through out the week and coaches still have the authority to tell any player they need to change something within the game.

This is BS from JG. I just watched the coach's film and the main problem with 2nd half offense was the 1st down where Atlanta dared us to pass by stacking the box and we kept running and getting negative yards.

We kept getting into 3rd and long and the way Atlanta played us on 3rd and long was to have the LBs at the 1st down maker giving us the check downs and played 2 safeties behind them to protect against the long pass. Had WeDone thrown a long pass against that look would have most likely ended up in an INT or in completion.

Out of 4 possession, they ran 3 times on first down. Two were for negative yards and once for 1 yard. When we did pass once, we got 9 yards.

I don't know why we kept trying to run on first down when their defense was set up to stop the run. My guess is WeDone wasn't given an option to audible out of it which is stupid on the coach's part.

Until someone sees the all 22 that will remain a question. On the few shots we saw from behind the QB it didn't look like there was much separation, and i'm sure Weeden was snake bit from his int, and overthrow of Witten

Who watching that game didn't expect the Falcons to adjust? I was surprised the didn't sooner. IF our coaches told Weeden to keep playing the underneath stuff that was bad coaching. I'm betting Weedon was to scared to try and fit the ball in close spaces, I don't think he can and he knows it.

Why Weeden has a big arm look at any film of him at OSU or scouting reports Weeden has the arm. His decision making has been question and rightfully so. His 2nd qrt int he went to his right tried to throw without being able to square up for the throw and got picked, It was a situation where he needed to throw it away. But never in his career has he been afraid to throw deep balls or lacked that ability
