The only caveat is that Romo has invited the criticisms.

Lots of players play golf, but to be succinct, few go and take a hobby and try to make it more by trying to qualify for tournaments that could infringe upon OTAs. Just because the claim it affects his game might not be valid and foolish, it doesn't absolve him of the sending the wrong message. Plus, he's always going to be known as the QB who went to Cabo with his celebrity girlfriend the week before the divisional playoffs.
Yes, its his fault that he is actually good enough to try and qualify.

Any player with his skill in golf would be doing the same.

I'm less concerned with Romo playing golf in the off-season than I would be players playing video games in the locker room or dominos during the season. :laugh2:

Warren Sapp should get back to breaking new ground in particle physics.

Sapps is mad he can't play golf, evidently while Romo plays golf in the off-season Sapp was smoking dope during his off season. :laugh2:

Florio making a statement that playing less golf in may might have prevented the fumbled snap in seattle is maybe the dumbest thing ever, but it is what he does and the media does. Plain ridiculous.

Florio didn't say that in that passage though. He made a poor joke at the end but that's far from implying he fumbled the snap because he played golf.

His message was that with QBs perception is everything. I don't think that can be argued.

But preception changes with winning. The Preception was Peyton Manning could not win the big game, he failed to do it at Tenn and was unable to win the big game in Indy for a while now that he has the preception is gone.

You make a good point especially in light of Troy saying that perception is reality for QB's but I still don't mind him playing golf or competing in golf at a high level. Now, if he would have qualified and made the decision to miss the final day of the OTA, then I would have an issue with him. Simply because that would infringe directly upon his job as a football player.

For all we know, Romo may have declined to play after qualifying due to the potential conflict. Luckily, the issue is moot.

I always thought that Romo playing in these highly competitive golf tournaments and playing golf in general was a good thing. Golf is a very difficult game and you have to maintain emotional control and perform under pressure and that pressure is amplified when competing in events such as the US Open.

It seems to me this is a good thing to put yourself in as many high pressure situations as possible so that the nerves and pressure don't ovewhelm you when you need to come through in important football game situations.

The only thing that mystifies me about Romo to this day is his reaction after Folk kicked the field goal to take us into overtime last year against Arizona. I cant get the image of Romo sitting on the bench looking completely disinterested and almost irritated that he had to go back on the field.

I'd love to ask him what was going through his mind at that moment. I was jumping around the room going berzerk, he looked like he was waiting in line at the DMV

Read my other posts, Sometimes in the moment perception is reality. With this hyper media apparently perception is set in stone.

Aikman would have been buried going into 1992 by this hyper media after the 91 season and that just goes to show how silly it is.

ANd like I said Steve Young Filmed an episode of beverly hills 90210 in 96 either during camp or during the season, cant remember. IMagine romo doing an appearence on lost or one tree hill or whatever on his off day or during camp....Can you imagine...Tim Mcmahon and Mike Florios heads would explode.

Brett favre filmed a movie in his offseason in 96 or 97 cant remember when something about mary came out.

No one cared. They were just enjoying themselves on their time off.

Now, if a guy goes to a restaruant he isnt a hard worker or is soft and lacks focus. Its silly, premature and unprofessional of these guys to speculate and come to conclusions based on this stuff.

again, romo drove 10 minutes from the cowboys facility after working out with the rest of his team to play a round of golf. The round held some importance but is just because he is good at it. Imagine what some of the other guys were doing!

Its ridiculous. Guys like sapp attacking him is just plain funny to me. All these selfish former players sit up on their high horse and attack these guys today, IMagine if someone attacked sapp in his offseason when he was playing. Please.

So he's not accountable for his actions because he is good at golfing?

Keep in mind that the entire premise that golf causes him to lose focus is pure rubbish before you answer.

The whole point is that he invites criticism. His actions and comments are his own worst enemy. It doesn't make the criticism right.

The good thing about that is that he doesn't appear to care nearly as much as the fans who get enraged that he's being criticized. He's a big boy and can handle it. Now if he pulls a Roy Williams and starts whining about it, then the whole picture changes.

I don't remember this happening, but isn't that after he broke his finger? I would think anyone with a broken finger would know that they are going to have a problem throwing the football downfield.

Again, Romo has made his bed. Its not the same as Young or Favre.

Did Favre's filming of Something About Mary threaten to overlap OTAs? Then you would have the double standard you appear to be getting at.

Oh gee sorry for being "enraged" and trying to shed some common sense into it and perspective.

And of course romo isnt going to care what the media says, he has been doing this every offseason since he has been here, he plays in charity golf events also is that bad too by the way?

He is working out with his team like everyone else and then enjoying his free time playing golf. What would he have to defend?

one of his biggest critics, used to play baseball in the summer(was terrible at it) and would skip entire nfl offseasons and just show up and he was praised for it.....

its comical.

Possibly, I have no idea.

Steve young filmed that episode of 90210 either early in the season or late in the preseason, so that was during football time.

again though, no one cared.

I agree with you but it is not going to change what the critics say until Romo and the Cowboys go out and win big.

He broke his finger in overtime, this was before overtime. The camera showed him sitting on the bench by himself looking off into space after Folk kicked the tying field goal. Crayton walked by and looked at him and appeared mystified as well.

Fine doesnt mean as a fan with common sense I have to sit and say oh well, romo really doesnt care because he played golf.

Parcells used to play golf all the time in the offseason, he was seen on the course nearly daily.

Its just a peaceful way for these guys to get out of the fishbowl and relax and clear there mind.

unless your romo, then it is a guy further distracting himself trying to be a pro golfer but failing at that too because he sucks and is a choker who doesnt care...oh and his girlfriend is fat.

its just plain foolish.

I agree with you, I think there are many perceptions made about players that are bogus. As I mentioned Manning could not win the big one? Anyone with an ounce of sense saw that Manning had the talent and would sooner or later knock that wall down and he did. I don't expect Tony to put his life on hold because some people have their own perception but I do know that until this team wins and wins big he will be dogged by the perception.
