Warren Sapp thinks golf causes Tony Romo's late-season struggles

You know it's a slow time of the NFL year when you read a Warren Sapp chat on NFL.com. Hey, I'll make great sacrifices for blog fodder.

Sapp was asked about Tony Romo "not being focused on football," since he tried to qualify for the U.S. Open.

"That's why his record is what it is in December and January," Sapp wrote.

Sapp didn't elaborate to explain why Romo's spring and summer golfing doesn't seem to bother him for the first three months of the season. Perhaps Sapp thinks golf will affect Romo's game from the get-go this season.

"They'll have a long season," he replied to a question about how the Cowboys will do this year. "A very long season."

Sigh..... We are the only NFL team in history who's QB is not aloud to have a life! He is not suppose to have a girlfriend , not suppose to take a trip , Golf is out of the question...only sport he should play , eat ,drink , and ****, 24 hours a day, 7 days a week , all year long is Football.
Man....I would hate to be in his shoes, even a 60 mil 5 year contract is probably losing its luster by now.
I hope he enjoys his off season! The Cowboys will always be under the media microscope , so I hope he has learned to let most of it roll off.

So, what is Romo supposed to do after hearing that the solution to the Cowboys' problems is for him to stop playing golf in the spring and get a different girlfriend?

Exactly what he's doing right now. He's handling it the right way.

Continue to live his life as always. What Sapps believes playing golf is Romo problem then that is how Sapps feels I don't think Romo has a problem of how he lives his life. I think Romo knows if he keeps working hard and this team works hard that they will get over that hurdle and until that happens people will look for any reason to find fault in whatever he does.

The criticisms are undeserved. Parcells I guess had nothing better to talk about than to lay down some stupid QB commandments. "No celebrity QBs". Romo was right when asked about that specifically - "That's a celebrity coach, right there." It was a stupid thing to say. It wasn't needed. Kind of like when Tiki Barber got himself a desk job and decided to rail on Eli.

I don't think Romo would receive nearly as much unwarranted criticism if Parcells had kept the commandments private, between him and Romo. But he decided to make a spectacle of it - a ratings play to get his face out there even more - and the "celebrity QB" bit stuck and people have run with it. It's not anymore true of Romo than it is of Peyton or Brady, but Romo is an easier target because Bill Parcells started the ball rolling on him.

I again disagree with your insinuation that Bill Parcells had intent to rag on Romo with malice or promote himself in his new role. Nor do I think Romo's reaction was defensive in nature. I have a feeling both enjoyed the volley, and I doubt there is any sort of bitterness.

The fact of the matter is, the criticisms are going to occur because he invited and continues to invite them, not because Bill Parcells fostered it in. The media treated him like E.F. Hutton. Oh well. It is a nice marketing strategy when you get down to it. I am sure Romo with his fat endorsements doesn't care.

Here is Florio's email if you are interested in telling him what you think about his opinion on Romo:

FlorioMJ@aol.com
I've begun writing an email for Florio, but I usually end up deleting it, starting another one, then delete it again, etc., etc. This is much harder than I first thought. I need the forum to weigh in on my message. Here it is:

"**** you Florio!"

What do you folks think? Too lengthy, perhaps? Maybe I shouldn't insert his name...

This doesn't even make disjointed logic. It is simple pure idiocy. Maybe Sapp was uttering to check if he was breathing.

I don't know that I've seen a QB who cares less about public perception than Tony Romo. He stands by his comments after the PHI game. He doesn't care about the perception about the weekend in Cabo. I really don't think he cares about the press. That may make him unpopular with some fans, but it's exactly the right attitude. And that subset of fans who care about who he's dating will be the first to jump back on his bandwagon when he's winning.

Whatever Parcels said, it's just hype to promote the NFL. Romo's smart enough to get that. It's just us fans who wish we didn't have to endure the nonsense.

Until Romo proves he can play good late season, every theory is basically true. Pretty much he is a QB not a RB, WR or any other position, he needs to spend time studying ala Manning, Brady and everyother good QB..... hope he turns it around soon, so all the Romo bashing will stop....

so if my theory is that he doesn't trim his toenails during the season and that causes undue foot discomfort, it's basically true?

Basically :) , Like I always say, we are the Cowboyz and I expect to win the Super Bowl any thing less is a failure, especially since we haven't won a playoff game since our last SB victory, everyone on our team wants and gets big contracts but plays with no heart and as a fan it hurts, I'm not on the team but I put in my personnel time year after year, day after day, minute after minute and all I get out of it is choking from our team.....

I dread the day Simpson dumps Romo, He probably retires. Basically this is Romo last year of under performing or else I might join the Romo bashing, forget all the week 1 thru 13 stats. All I care about is wins in the playoffs and winning rings...

until we start winning games when they matter most...people will have grounds to make these statements. It is pretty simple....win and they will come. Whether that means they will get someone to pay top dollar for naming rights to the stadium, or mediots will say glowing things about you, or ex-Cowboy greats will not offer their opinion on why this team has not won a playoff game in forever.....WIN, not marketing, not Hard Knocks, not security detail to protect a player from himself, not flapping your gums to the media.....WIN!!!!!!!!!

Warren Sapp is a mouth breathing moron, and so is anyone who agrees with him. I will purposely not read the thread so as not to single anyone out.

I stand by my thread about Romo and golf. It is irrefutable. Oh and one more thing, I would say this to Warren Sapp's face any time, anywhere, with no fear.

I bet Sapp spends 17 hours a day, seven days a week, from March to July studying film and weight training in order to have himself ready for the next season. If not, he does not need to open his mouth as to what other players do during this part of the season.
