Do CB and safety become a priority over pass rush?

I think they disagree with your Smith and Tapper bolds. That probably explains the disconnect.

Irving, Crawford/Collins, Paea/Collins, Lawrence
Lee, Smith, (Hitchens)
Brown, Scandrick, Carroll, Jones, Drafted/FA Safety.

Is that a world beating team? no. Is that a major dropoff from last year? Not really. Do they need to draft guys to fill out the roster and fill in rotations? Yes.

I admire you for looking at the bright side, but it's pretty unwise to count on either Smith or Tapper this year.

And now we have even more holes.

The offseason plan just doesn't make sense so far.

HAHA

We will have DLaw for the whole year unless injured. Last year he was serving a suspension. We should have Tapper. Last year we did not. We are going to kick the tires on Moore. He wasn't here last year. We might even get Gregory at the end of the year. That is several additions we did not have last year.

Give me Joe Mathis in the 4th or Darius English in the 6th or one of many other options and I would feel much better about the DE's than the Secondary. Especially when Tyron Crawford and David Irving can kick out there. Plus Mayowa showed something to build on.

The secondary cupboard is bare!

This is a massive hit to our team.

Claiborne, Carr, safeties gone..

Does this mean we move Jones to CB..

draft a CB?

I'm getting confused about where this D is going.

3 starters to be replaced..

still looking for LB help as well.

Starting to think last year was maybe a fluke.

What do you guys see?
No and no.

It's all just another sign of cap mismanagement.
Now some will come and spout the usual rhetoric about credit card payments down the line etc and w3 are in good shape because restructures are "planned", but bottom line when you don't have the $$$$$ to pay ANY of 3 of your DB starters then that's a huge cluster ***** by the front office

I just posted the same thing in the Claiborne to Jets thread. We need zone corners with athleticism, awareness and ball skills. Mo and Carr were terrible at that.
If Mo and Carr were terrible at that...imagine how some rookies or bargain bin free agents or aging cast aways will fare...

There is plenty of reason to be concerned and no reason to not be (at this point).

We talk crap about our sorry secondary for years...then we get rid of all the trash and now everyone is worried...lol

Do we have holes in the secondary? Absolutely...we've had them for years
Thank you. I am personally glad Carr and Claibum are gone.

Pass rush is the biggest issue.

I will stand by this ..

Starting secondary day 1...

CB - Carroll, Brown, Scandrick
FS - Jones
SS - Heath

Will gladly eat crow if I am wrong. This just smells like the Alan Ball, Keith Davis "give them a chance" secondary season.
What are the chances that Jeff Heath and Nolan Carroll are 50% of the secondary of next seasons Super Bowl champions? Yikes.

Guess the sky is falling!

Why should Dallas overpay for secondary that was average at best. I just don't get it. For the last two years everyone wanted to get rid of Claiborne and Carr and now it is the worse mistake we have ever made. The draft will produce a couple of secondary guys although I believe Dallas sticks to their board especially in the 1st and 2nd rounds and draft the best player according to their board, not something any fan or internet service believes.

At CB with have Brown, Carroll, and Scandrick with also a couple of others for depth at the moment, McFadden and Seamster. Do we need more help, sure do, as does every team in the secondary.

At safety we have Jones (who despite some on this board thoughts, he a top ten safety), Frazier, and Heath. We also have Showers who has been transitioning to the spot all year. Considering Heath and Jones were starting at the end of the year, not sure I would agree with losing two starters there. Could we use more help, sure, and maybe we sign another FA or draft one or sign a UDFA.

All the "sky is falling" happen last year also about this time and then again in preseason when Romo went down. Frankly, I'll wait until the draft happens and then a bit more free agency then training camp before I believe things are worse because eventhough they don't look better yet they don't look worse either.

DBs are easier to find esp late than rushers. As long as they draft a rusher and a DB we'll be fine. You can get a serviceable safety in the cuts. Probably some depth at CB as well. I would have liked keeping one S and one CB but we didn't have anyone we should we rueing. Wilcox and Church we're serviceable. People have been crying for Carr's head since day two. Claiborne from season one as well. Unless we get lucky in the draft then we'll just be serviceable and not upgraded although Heath might surprise.

More pressure will hide mediocre DBs although I'm not saying we will absolutely be mediocre.

Sensible has also morphed into stupid.

The defense needed upgrading but a total deconstruction when you do next to nothing to upgrade in free agency is not that intelligent.

Not only will we have to nail the draft, we don't even have the flexibility to take the best players. We are now chained to the secondary.

Not everyone wanted to gut our secondary. Unrealistic fans who expect a mini legion of boom from a team with ZERO pass rush are ones who wanted to run Claiborne and Carr out of town. Now we're expecting rookies to come in and save the day with a possibly worse pass rush than last year and hardly any returning starters in that secondary. This in a year when our division added Terrelle Pryor, Brandon Marshall and Alshon Jeffrey.

Are we nearing DEFCON One yet defensively? I wanted a gut job but this is a bit much, especially considering the draft might yield two starters at best.

Too many holes to fill this offseason with above average players and minimal FA signings :(

That is not the point.

The point now becomes that more resources have to be devoted to the secondary, more than likely two draft choices at minimum and probably the first or second round pick. That comes at a price and it will affect the ability to get more rushers that were already needed.

This is why free agency needs to provide an offset. It does not have to be a bunch of high priced signings. It does have to be calculated and allow you to not have more than a couple of pressing needs going into the draft.

Exactly. We now have more needs to fill than we did at the end of the season when the same unit let us down.

This is just going backwards.

I don't think it was about the cap but about them thinking of a number for each and when that number wasn't enough they let them walk
I always thought we would keep either Carr or Mo and it does worry me that we lost both if for no other reason, depth

This just shows me that they aren't prioritizing winning next season. They see their window of opportunity being wide open again, and are cutting their losses and wanting to build the defense from the ground up. Unless we get really lucky with Jaylon and Tapper, this defense is going to be putrid.
Window's wide open. Sell the offensive stars and gather more. Grasp to build a defense when you're about to lose offensive pieces.

I'd imagine we'll see two DBs, one DL and one OL taken in the first four rounds. Order will depend on BPA at those positions. But the team really doesn't have the luxury of truly going BPA this year. The holes are pretty glaring.

It indicates to me that RM and SJ have made business decisions which are within their comfort zone...............with JJ's money.

Now, we can all rant about their stupidity, but we do not have all the facts and variables to properly critique their decisions.

Maybe we should load up on offensive talent (tight end) so we can just out score everyone. I think we need a real playmaker at the TE position to really open this thing up. And yes we do need defensive players too...It will be fun for sure, can't wait to see what we target in the draft.
