Do not challenge pass interference calls

Haha, yeah, enjoy the cardboard box you live in

Yeah the nfl JUST came up with a way to fix games in 2019..

Dont even try and tell me they're fixing games now..the biggest sports franchise in the world hasn't sniffed a championship in 25 years...

Don't look now...the aliens are here

At first I thought it should be overturned. Watching the replay I couldn't tell if the receiver was forced of his route, making it uncatchable. A case could be made either way on that play.
No your right. After watching it a few times it was a miscommunication and a uncatchable ball. Now there was contact but I have seen that type not called before. What I wonder is that because it happened in the end zone maybe the refs are going to give the call to make the scoring more likely.

Contact is made on EVERY play. What would they possibly overturn?
You don’t know what pass interference is?
Contact isn’t illegal. Unless the contact interferes with the receivers ability to catch the ball.

This isn’t that hard.

As much as I told my wife that the ball was not catchable and would be over turned I was shocked to find out they didn't. Have seen other challenged plays this year that was. We will see....
Are they allowed to review if the ball was catchable?
I asked the OP but he got all insecure and just said something stupid. some come here to rant and rave and don’t want to understand.

I understand why they made this rule and I don’t have the perfect answer but I think it’s going to cause more problems than solve. Every now and then there will be an obvious call, like the Saints game last year, but most will be just as subjective as all the other PI calls. The worst part is we have one of the biggest cry baby fan bases and will never hear the end of it if and when we get a bad call that severely effects the game. It happens to every team and it will happen to us, some of you better stock up on Kleenex in the next two weeks, you’ll need it.

I don't see why they are allowed to review the play if they cant use the whole rule book about it. IMO the ball was 7 to 10 yards over his head and wasn't going to be catchable if he wasn't touched. The contact was made but have seen more that was never called. There was several calls made in that game that was bad or boarder line. Holding calls against our O-Line that was not happening the way they saw it.. LOL.

If Bill O'Brien's challenge on the pass interference call was not overturned, none of them will be. That ball was 10 yards beyond a receiver running a comeback route.

Every route can be called pass interference, usually on both the defender and the receiver. It's going to be virtually impossible to reverse any of them.

This was a painfully STUPID rule change.

Garrett needs to keep his flag in his pocket on those all season.
I think the rule was put in place to prevent what happened against Saints in championship game. It may take a call that obvious to overturn.

I agree.

The only way they will change a call is in cases like the Saints and Rams game.

Which happen once a year, if even that.

This thread doesn’t make any sense. This was put in place because of an egregious PI missed call that would have been reversed upon review 100 out of 100 times.

Every single incomplete pass, fumble, interception, foot out of bounds, knee down/not down can be reviewed, and they have been upheld on countless occasions over the years due to wasted challenges. This is no different. Why not remove all those things too? Because this is new and uncomfortable to you?

This rule should have been added years ago. Ticky Tack (And often WRONG) PI calls are the most annoying thing in the game right now because they can seriously alter momentum, and in some cases decide the outcome.

I’d rather a ref decide the outcome of a game by correcting a mistake judicially than letting a mistake stand because people don't like changes.

Wait, I thought this rule was brought in because the refs fixed the Rams-Saints game. Why would they need a rule to do something they're already doing?
:clap::clap::clap:

Yes but consider this. Is this rule intended to overturn non calls like in the Rams and Saints game? Or overturn calls like the Texans tried to do last night? There is a difference.
I think refs would be more likely to overturn non calls than vice versa simply because there is contact on most plays. If they call PI, I think it would stick way more often than not.

It’s hard to say. But I think the rule is in place to stop calls from changing the outcome of the game like in championship game. Not like in the Texans game.

Well he was trying to reverse a bad call, the rule was enacted to call a penalty where none was called, like the ram NO game.
They dont want to reverse bad calls unless it is really bad because if they did, there would be too many challenges.
Also this will probably be more for the playoff games, where they might be more likely to reverse a bad call.

I agree the PI call on houston was bad, but it wasnt real bad.
I disagreed with most of the calls made in that game lol, so maybe that crew just sucks.

While we're on the topic, whether a ball was catchable or not ought to be considered irrelevant as far as the PI is concerned. If the DB mugged the WR, he mugged the WR, period. That's my preferred rule change.

For irony's sake, I'd love to see a Rams-Saints championship game rematch in which a Saints cornerback commits blatant PI on a Rams receiver, there is no flag, then the Rams challenge..... And there is now a PI.

The rule they are making is for one of the biggest blown calls ever in a playoff game. I still am amazed. Heck the Dez catch no catch still amazes me. But the call in the playoff game was so bad.. IMO they should have just chalked it up to a bad call and never made the new rule..

It all goes back to why and what the Instant Replay was implemented for. To prevent bad calls from changing the outcome of the game.

And we’ve taken it too far reviewing every little play and TD.

I disagree....that was definitely a penalty. The defender stepped into his path, made contact, which necessitated it becoming a comeback route. It had to be interference or illegal contact at worst...first down either way. Plus, we will see fewer flags in regular season after an emphasis in preseason, along with more overturns when obvious when it affects a real game.

I think the flag is illegal contact before the throw and INT after ball is in the air.
