Do not get rid of Luepke

Or worse, he gets picked up by SF or Philly, and they immediately plug him in.
? again the RB facination with some here is extraordinary... Little did we know Luepke was what the SF running game was missing....I mean do we think Zeke would've looked good against LV's UDFA who will not be playing NFL ball? I'm betting Luepke is not faster nor stronger than the current Zeke yet here we are worried he will be the ghost of pre season's past that haunts us not the NFL superstars SF has toting the rock..hunter Luepke...

3 TE's and Luepke is the only scenario he makes it.
Which is exactly what they'll do, IMO. McKeon goes to the PS. Grant it, they play different positions but Luepke does every thing McKeon does plus so much more.

This i could see, if Luepke can play ST better and fill that role that is his in to the 53... from there he can show what he has on Sunday's

Great tape and analysis on Luepke

Thanks for this clip. I hadn't looked at the blocking as close as I intended to, and this video shows that Luepke did well in the blocking in addition to short yardage runs, and receptions in the flats.

He can fill in at TE and they can get some ST use out of him too.

You having trouble discerning between a rookie who is doing everything asked of his position well with a guy that was clearly spent as a RB?

Or was it my insolence in liking a young player and seeing the potential they have to contribute right away that warranted this response?

Luepke reminded me of Moose Johnson a little last night. Lets see how he does against 1st stringers and I'm all in with this kid. I'm starting to like this pic, 2nd round TE, Shoonmaker. WR group is stacked with good players.
Tough cuts ahead for sure.
Moose may be a better blocker, but offensively Luepke is 10x better.

no mainly its your paranoia that Hunter Luepke is gonna go to an NFC rival and get "Plugged in" ahead of some really good RB's based off a pre season game against other PS/non NFL players

Luepke kind of reminds me of Bill Ring from SF back on the 81-82 team that we all despised so much....very integral part of that SF team that really hadn't hit their stride yet offensively.

Really like what I see from Luepke. Seems deceptively fast for such a big guy, has good hands, power, and good blocking, from what I saw.
I agree, in fact I think it'll be hard to keep him out of the 53. He's got size, strength, speed, good blocking skills and like you said, good hands! He showed the ability to pick up the hard yards.
Gotta keep him Cowboys.

I'm watching a replay of the game and I firmly believe Luepke belongs in the top 3 of our RBs. He's so versatile, and he runs hard in heavy traffic. He's good for those short yardage 1st downs as well as everything else.

Keeping Leupke to me is a no brainer , he is a matchup nightmare if the the right plays are called ,and he is used the right way .

I'm bearing in mind that he wasn't playing against starters, but he does look like the real deal.

I totally understand...and you're probably right. For me, he isn't much worse carrying the ball and he's a bigger, better blocker and receiver.
I would love to keep them all on active roster .... but it's not feasible. Dowdle & Davis have better abilities to follow the blocks & make the cuts, acceleration thru the hole, experience, etc.. When Pollard isn't on the field, we need those elements to keep defenses honest.

Perhaps they carry him as TE\HB.

Just my opinion, but I would keep Luepke over Dowdle.

I think there’s a better chance you get Dowdle to the practice squad than Luepke.

I also think that Luepke is a better ‘power back’ compliment to Pollard and Vaughn.

I’m actually surprised that they haven’t really used Luepke in the blocking fullback role.

Definitely not a plodder. Not sure how he would translate vs #1s but a lazy comparison for me is a Peyton Hillis lite player.

Sort of the same usage in college, except Hillis had to fight for touches with McFadden and Jones but he was the punt returner iirc.
Same size, Luepke has a better vert but same 40(4.65 combine Hillis-4.55 Luepke pro day).

He's not a traditional fullback that can just block or fall for a yard or two. Honestly, while he has the size for it, I think he's more of a running back in the NFL but can lineup as a H-back or fullback if need be.
I think if he sticks on the 53 it's due to the team thinking he can play ST's, and go light at first at linebacker(Cox) but also some upside with the ball in his hands. Something that the former fullbacks we've had here since McCarthy been here never really offered.
