Do the Cowboys have enough pass rushers?

This is my big concern for the defense going into the year. Armstrong/Fowler had the #2 and #4 sack totals for the team last year.

I think they are going to end up depending on OSA and LBs to take up more sacks this year. I just don’t see it coming as consistently from the edge players aside from Micah this year
Zimmer is going to use those double A gap blitzes, but someone is going to have to make a play when they do pressure the QB.

Well, we've got Parsons, Lawrence and Williams and they drafted Kneeland. Plus, Zimmer has talked about other linebackers with pass-rushing ability for what he likes to do with the Double A gap blitz.

I don't see us adding more at end. In fact, I think we'll see Golston and Fehoko get some snaps there as well in run defense.

Tackle is where we are short. We've got unproven Mazi, Odighizuwa then tweeners like Golston and Fehoko. We brought back a scrub (Davis) and added a seventh-rounder (Rogers) and UDFA (Daxon). Tell me that group instills much confidence.
Certainly are in better shape and within the interior, but depth of pass rushers isn't great, either.

Given the way they are treating all else about the upcoming season, stay consistent and give all the younger guys a very long look.

No need for any progress stoppers in some attempt to be marginally better. Find out what you have and/or don’t have on this roster.

It’s the right thing to do along side of deciding to devote a season to dead money (overpaying your own draftees consistently) reduction.
This is why you allow your young prospects all the reps in the offseason and then protect themselves when the real games start.

Maybe he becomes a similar player to Fowler, who was pretty much a rush specialist. Still need to someone to pick up the loss production for Armstrong. No, he was more of a clean up sack guy, but still had over 8 sacks last season.
Its hard to tell right now how Zimmer is going to use his DE's. Based on what he used in Minnesota and Cincinnati, I dont know how much Williams is a fit. I can see them using him alot this year jusf because they dont have much else. But if he posts 10 sacks, I could see them trading him in the offseason

It's questionable. I don't know whether it's great or not. They have a first-round pick, an early second-round pick and two more second-round picks there. That's a pretty substantial investment.

Unfortunately, outside of DLaw/Parsons they really have had much lucky picking defensive lineman.

Sink or swim time for him as his time could be running out. Quinn handpicked him, where Zimmer may want a more disciplined type of player. Who knows if he here next year as well as the entire coaching staff. I do know though, Cowboys wanted to interview Zimmer when Garrett was let go, but the Vikings blocked them.

I guess, but I don’t see how you rely on these draft picks the way they do then keep them in a limited role for guys that other teams cut.

It's a bottom line business, if the coach fails to win, he will not be here next season.

The scouting reports I have read about linebacker Marist Liufau talked about his potential as a situational pass rusher. Says he has ideal arm length and the straight line speed to be a surprise contributor as a blitzer.

Zimmer might find some prime career Anthony Barr-type packages for Liufau too.

It’s not exactly up to the coaching staff to choose who to sign or what to do.

I’m just saying if you’re gonna throw away a season, be consistent across the board.

I honestly have no idea what they may be thinking or planning. None of it makes much sense.

They aren't throwing away the season, they felt like they had to shed salaries to withstand signing some of their star players.

Well they went one way instead of another.

If they are trying to own up to past mistakes, fine….but if anything you’d figure they would scramble to win while Lamb and Parson are still on rookie deals. Instead they seem to can’t wait to pay them and be even more handcuffed.

As far as competing for a championship, I know that you know better. A team that wasn’t close to good enough (no, three playoff wins in consecutive weeks away from a title isn’t “close”), got worse and definitely less deep.

Or….let’s say this…if this is their version of trying to win a championship, we are in larger trouble than we know.

Two quality pass rushers departed to Washington with Dan Quinn in Armstrong, Fowler. All the Cowboys have added is a small schooled prospect who is considered more of a run stopper in Kneeland. Yes, Sam Williams is expected to take on a larger role, but he has been untrustworthy in the past.

There are a few free agents that certainly can help as rotational pieces: Ngakoue, Lawson and a few others.
We'll just have to wait and see what Zimmer's pass rush looks like. I bet you are selling it short.
