Do you really want to pay a 30 year old middling QB 50 million?

Yes. There is no other reasonable option to field a playoff team next season.

Structure the extension so that we can get out after 2 years - Dak should accept that given his self critique after the game.
June 1st cut is the only thing that works. Not another dollar for this wolf in sheep's clothing. Time to tank and draft a new team with all new coaches. We may be back to winning in two to three years.

Sad to say, but the current contract is devastating. There are no good options.
Because they restructured him when the book was still out. I was on the fence about him and have been back and forth but when you don't know you can't make that move and corner yourself.

Unfortunately they will. If Dak was decent guy he would take lot less and friendly deal to build better team. He knows he has no chance to win making that much. His current contract is more than he should get. We are basically screwed.

The Dak haters come out 6 times a year it seems. Let’s tell the truth for once guys, Dak is second team All-Pro and is not middle of the pack or below average. He played like a top 3 quarterback this season.
How has he played in the playoffs the past three years? If he's a regular season warrior that ALWAYS wets the bed in the playoffs now, what's the point? The truth is the Cowboys will never achieve more than they already have with him. He is incapable of stepping up.

Look at the opponents he faced this season. He beat up on garbage teams for the most part. That's why he played like a top 3 QB.

But continue to be blind and worship at the temple of Dak and be happy with early playoff exits because omg, he does well in the regular season. He's hamstringing the team with his contract and lack of performance when it matters though. THAT is the truth.

Who cares what accolade he's given when our season ends in the same way, with him unable to step up against a zonal defense when having to rely on his arm. This isnt a direct dig at Dak, just acknowledging that with his contract we just dont have the ability to create a team that GUARANTEES a lead that can allow him to play in his comfort zone.

A continued inability to raise his game that extra level at the most crucial moments means he needs a team which we cant provide with his contract.

The alleged rumor the last few weeks was to make Dak the highest paid Qb ever. Imagine accomplishing absolutely nothing for 8 years and this is what happens. They even dumbed down the offense for this guy and half the season, he couldn’t even find the red zone until they force fed CeeDee and they played a bunch of trash secondaries.

TB didn’t pay Baker that much an look at where they are now. Goff has gone farther than Dak multiple times and with different teams and offenses. I think he’s still on the same contract.

Who gave him that contract?

$58M cap hit + no trade clause + no option to Franchise Tag again = ZERO LEVERAGE for Dallas Cowboys.

Todd France took Stephen to the woodshed.
You forgot the part about coming off a broken leg too. And BTW, Andy Dalton with a dysfunctional OL in this offense after the bye had 4 games where they averaged close to 34 PPG. Putting up pointed against bad teams had never been a problem with this offense, no matter the QB.

When you are down 27-0, 2 min before halftime and 42-16 with 7 minutes to go in the 4th quarter, then the quarterback is taking the majority of the blame.

He is a mediocre QB. 8 years into his career and he still has people like you fooled. He only shows up against weaker teams. When he faces adversity, he crumbles.
I can respect your opinion but I hope you understand that the Cowboys are a mediocre team that has been overrated because of their brand. We have about 6 elite players and a bunch of JAGs.

Surely the team has sense enough to not do this. There is no way you can extend Dak after that disaster.

I really don’t care what they pay any QB. Why should I? It’s not my money.
If he’s the best QB available to them, pay him. If they think they can bring in a better QB, then do that, but as a fan, I don’t give a hoot about any player’s salary.

Because you aren't a child that doesn't have to worry about what mommy and daddy spends. You are an adult that knows this is a business and there is only X amount of money to be spent. If the business is ran bad, the product will be bad. So as fans we absolutely should care if Jerry is spending wisely.

I threw all sorts of red flags when he paid Dak that contract and prior to that made Zeke the #1 paid RB in the league when RB contracts were trending down and Zeke wasn't even a #1 RB.

Jerry is sloppy with his money when you become "one of his guys" and he is sllooowwww to cut people.

oh come on get real
the boys are not a mediocre team
that would put them around 16th in the NFL

They are a top 10 team at least; arguably near top 5

PROBLEM IS that too many are happy with that and most of all JJ

No we are not TOUGH enough to win it all; we have the TALENT but the grit in the gut is not there

Man... you worried about Dak when we will be stuck with Al Davis Jr. for another 10 years or more. "REALLY"????
I don't think that will be the case but right now we do have bigger issues than his contract and that's the team as a whole.

Fire the entire staff.
Take the hit, cut him, move on.
It's a 4 year rebuild....
How the hell do posters think we can get better as a team paying a fraud qb that money.
We can't be involved in free agency and rely on mazi Smith and schoon types to make impacts.

You got balls for coming out in defense of that turd I'll give you that. Dak ran up some great numbers against garbage teams, since we are being honest and all lets paint the whole picture. Against good competition in high pressure situations, we can see who he really is, he has shown us that year after year. You really want to hitch your entire franchise to that?
So let's lay it out then. Part of the issue with too many is the idea that our issues would be "covered up" more if it weren't for this one guy. The problem with that idea is that it's counter to the team as a whole. Why do we look so terrible in certain games? Every single game we have lost this year had a ew things in common. We look unprepared, flat, outmatched, and just plain out done. Who is responsible for that part of it?

The we go to what Dak did. Yea, he definitely gave up points and more trying to push and make things happen. Allen gave up 3 TOs to Miami one of thr last games of the year yet the Bills still won, why?

Our problems are up and down the line not just at qb. Dak should be dragged for his part in this mess but considering what he did this year without a run game that vanished, I can't out it all on his shoulders. Do I see paying 50 million? Maybe, maybe not. But if we don't fix other problems then it won't matter either way because we won't win with whoever we got. Even if we had Mahomes we would still likely lose the same way. Just saying

Regular season is meaningless if they get to post season. Dak has played his worse in playoff games. He just doesn't have "it". 8 years now so he won't get any better.
Yes he had played poorly in some playoff games but the team has as a whole. Who gave up damn near 300 yards to the Rams? Or could not stop SF?

Dak don't play defense man. Pay him or not none of that takes care of our inability to run the ball (which we did not have all season) or stop other teams with a competence of a solid football team. We have always had the talent that ain't the issue. But we fall and have been falling since 98 due to our structure and everything underneath.

Dak is 2-6 in win or go home games. That’s the stat that stands out the most. One of those games was against the Eagles with their 3rd string secondary in. In 8 years he’s 2-6 in WOGH games.

Posting great stats against the regular season is fun to watch but Win Or Go Home games is what defines a QBs worth.
Agreed. That's a poor stat but it's also a team stat I think. It's easy to point to certain moments sure on Daks part that he is responsible for. Damn right. But our team in those games also played like they forgot how to play just like the other night. GB receivers wide open? Can't stop the run? We have to think about whether or not anyone can really win in such circumstances even with his personal issues at large.
