Do you really want to pay a 30 year old middling QB 50 million?

Very interesting to watch the discussion today and in the aftermath. Seems to be only 3 schools of thought on this now..
1) keep/pay Dak because he has MVP numbers and you know he is going to give you X level of play which is better than anything you are likely to get.
2) Attempt to trade Dak (with his permission) to move up in the draft, move on from him if you can. If not, work out a team friendly extension and hope.
3) Dump Dak at all costs... even if that means taking dead cap hit.

What I find interesting is that no one.. not even the ones saying we should keep Dak actually think Dak will have success. What they are saying is that with Dak at least we won't suck. I find that to be the key point. Would you rather suck and then go find a guy that can actually win a championship than just keep repeating this cycle. We KNOW what Dak is.. he has been the same for 8 years now. He will win a lot of games because we have a really good squad.. he will then wilt under pressure. He is Kirk Cousins.

Personally I'd rather go fishing for a Love or Tua or Stroud or Purdy.. than continue to be embarrassed watching our QB **** his pants under the bright lights every year.

I would rather roll the dice with Lance or a draft pick than keep the status quo of losing in the 1st or 2nd round every year.

The question to ask is "do you think Dak can win you a SB"?

If the answer is yes, you extend him. If the answer is no, you dont.

I agree 100%.. that is the only question worth asking.

I would then seriously question why anyone would still believe this guy can win a SB. Literally EVERYTHING he has done to date has shown he is not capable of winning a playoff game, let alone making a SB.

For me it is an easy decision but I've felt like that for a while. I would be keen to see how Lance goes... for me, he never really got a proper shot.

No. But....

It's a QB league. Dak has the Cowboys over a barrel. If they don't pay a top 10ish QB money, good luck finding a replacement. Unless they want to give up three or four first rounders or something over the next few years for Caleb Williams.

They have no choice

"Good luck finding a replacement"
Cooper Rush went 5-1 including beating good teams like the Bengals that had just played in the Superbowl. He's a practice squad calibre QB.

I really don't get what the team would be missing without Prescott apart from poor leadership and terrible performances in big games...

Some people would have you believe we would be replacing Tom Brady in his prime not a combination of Blake Bortles/Kirk Cousins/Taysom Hill.

This this and this.

The same reason they overrate him is the same reason they are scared to face reality.

Rush is not even a decent back up.. and still won. This team is built and just waiting for a true QB. Ahhhhhhhhhh

Look at what the D did with Rush starting. He wasn't the reason.

Would you want him starting 17 games?

Middling qbs get MVP votes now?

lol
Glad you mentioned that because I thought Dak being mentioned in the MVP circles was ridiculous after seeing him look completely lost against the 49ers. If beating up bad teams and getting dominated against good teams means you are a serious MVP candidate than its as useless as the pro bowl.

Anyone with a brain and minimal football IQ knows Dak wasn't an MVP caliber QB. It's called being the QB of the Dallas Cowboys and being the benefactor of the dumb media and fan hype machine.

No.
My point being the team was able to go 5-1 with practice squad QB.

I don't get it as either the coaching and defense stinks which the Dak Prescott fans have laid their hat on since the Packers game or they are actually good. Whichever way it's sliced up, Dak Prescott isn't actually important to the overall performance of the team.

The bottom line is that if you extend Dak on a record setting contract, which is what it would take. You cannot afford to stack as much talent around him. Some current starters are not going to be resigned and their replacements aren't going to be top tier guys. The team wont be better than this years squad that just got completely embarrassed, it will be worse.

No.

Dak has this team over a barrel right now.
A proper GM would make Dak waive that no trade clause by informing him the team is moving in a new direction so if he refuses to waive the no trade clause he can collect the rest of his contract while riding the bench.

The Dak haters come out 6 times a year it seems. Let’s tell the truth for once guys, Dak is second team All-Pro and is not middle of the pack or below average. He played like a top 3 quarterback this season.
Oh yes… and how many times has he come close to winning in the playoffs???
His stats this year were a result of beating up on less than average teams.
Wake up and smell the coffee!!!!

Where was he against the 49ers, bills etc…

When you can answer yourself that, maybe you’ll move on and really see the player for who he is… Mr average QB

No, but why are we even talking about Rush, he wouldn't be the starter. Lance is waiting, give him a season to see what we got. If he blows, the you come out in 25 in a much better cap situation with an extremely high draft pick.

Or you can sign Dakota as the highest paid player in the league and get what you have gotten for the last 8 years.
