Do you think the Cowboys will bring in Ray Mickens?

I wouldn't be surprised to see him brought in after week 1 so his salary is not guaranteed.

Just glancing at his bio, it appears he might be a bit small, but it still bears asking. Can he play free safety?

I think Frazier and Thornton are going to get roster spots, as long as they keep playing like reports indicated. Frazier was looking good, from what I read, before he got hurt. Thornton seems to be coming on lately. After that, I would say that Reeves probably has a leg up...that's six - with some potential for long term growth and improvement.

One disclaimer. I could still see one of the guys currently playing CB moved to FS - if they were playing well enough - and having someone like Mickens brought in. But we all know how Bill loathes moving youth players around, and I don't even know if those guys have shown enough to warrant a move.

I will say that I am not sure that any of this is any good for the prospects of Scott or Reese staying on this team.

I must have missed something. Has there been talk of bringing Mickens in?

He is a smallish, older guy coming off ACL surgery. I just don't see the benefit. We have invested a lot of draft picks in corners in the last few years, I would like to give some of them more than a year to prove themselves.

Between Thornton, Reeves, Jones, Frazier I think we can find two part timers.

Mickens is coming.

BP in press conference just now "I'm still looking for a 4th cornerback for the nickel. I don't know who it will be yet. It's a tough position, but you make a career about it. I told Ray Mickens he could make a career out of a nickel corner. He's going on the 10th year of it."

That seems to be a tilt of the hand to use Mickens as an example.

Wow, someone just asked Parcells about the nickel corner and he said Terence looked very good in there but he was looking for still another one... He then brought up Mickens, and I was just waiting for someone to ask about bringing him in... But no one did it.

Was thinking the same thing but only came in when he was saying that mickens has made a living out of it and just like you thought that mickens is on his way. :)

Maybe Bill is having buyers remorse about A. Henry ...

Especially if he's looking for a nickel corner ... that's what Aaron Glenn is supposed to do in Dallas.

He may be looking to put Glenn on the outside and have Mickens at corner ... if any of this has anything truth to it ... just a thought though ...

He said 4th CB.

Bill just said in his PC today, that he's looking for a 4th corner to play the slot, also said he's every happy with Newman's play in the slot!. :iggles: :trophy: :suxiggle: :disseags:

How can Bill be having remorse over Henry? He said he was the best CB he's had since he's been here and that includes TNew who happens to be a pretty good CB. And Glenn.

I think Bill was only saying people could have a long NFL career as a 4th CB as Mickens has done. I don't think that leads automatically to he's going after Mickens.

It means IMO that a 4th corner is important and can make a good living. It also means it's important to Bill.

I think we will give the other corners a chance at being that 4th CB. Only if no one shows up by the middle of the preseason would I think Bill would start thinking of actually bringing someone in. That doesn't mean he doesn't know who is out there or that he wouldn't bring someone in. JMO.

I see ...

I wonder if the young guys are doing poorly or if he just likes Mickens ...

I kind of think he is just worried about one of those guys getting hurt and still being young with depth.

Get Mickens for league min (even though that would be more then the young guys) as insurance and if anyone else steps up you can let mickens go.

Once again that is IF we bring him in...just seems like it is a strong chance of that since he mentioned him.

I don't think there is any remorse with Henry. From the training camp reports to Parcells own comments, he is very happy with the acquisition.

If Mickens gets waived, then he would possibly be worth considering. But not in a trade. No way.

I'm thinking if things fall into line for us and we can grind it out on O with running game, BP thinks we have a shot. If our CB's are Newman, Henry, Glenn, Mickens, Thornton/Frazier he's got a great combination of youth/experience. No worry in cutting guys like Reeves, Jones, Williams, and even Frazier because you can get those off the street all day long.

Yeah, I can see that ... I'm not farmiliar with Mickens history ... has he played for Parcells, did Parcells scout him?

I know he went to Texas A & M, but I don't know if he ever played for Parcells. Seems like he's pretty old though ...

You would have to get the history from LTN.

I think he has been in the league 10 years....which for the sake of only a 4th CB, depending on his condition, is not bad.

Yeah ... I don't either ... I misunderstood what was said ... I just got in and missed the PC ...

Forgive me ...
