Do you think we can trade for Crabtree?

One thing I think that might be missing on the Crabtree camp is that, in the next bargaining agreement, the NFL is going to push hard on lowering rookie salaries. Goodell has mentioned several times, & rightfully so, that rookies should not be able to make more than established veterans when they haven't played a down in the NFL.

In fact, next year might be the last we'll see of the kind of rookie cash haul we've seen in the past. Crabtree is not facing reality, & is putting his pride of making more than the guy picked ahead of him than of wanting to create a legacy for himself in the NFL. We don't need another head case.

Jim Brown, who made $85,000 in the final season of his Hall of Fame career, has a message for the 49ers' first-round draft pick: "Mr. Crabtree, get your butt in camp," he said. In an interview with Sirius XM radio, Brown told host Joe Madison that Michael Crabtree's current stance is --totally ridiculous' and said that an athlete's career is measured by the way he plays, not the contract he signs. "You don't realize that your legacy will be based upon how you perform, not how much money you made," Brown said on the show.

Eh...poor comparision really. Emmitt had already proven himself. He'd won back to back rushing titles. He'd helped Dallas win a Superbowl. At that point the guy had earned the right to ask for more money.
Ah, so when Emmitt hold out for money, that's OK. When Crabtree holds out for money, he's being greedy, has no heart, hates the game, etc, etc. Got'cha.

IIRC, Emmitt also missed his rookie year's training camp over money. But the bottom line is once a guy reports, no one remembers it or cares. All they will care about is his performance between the lines, and it is there that Crabtree will be judged. As I mentioned earlier, I think he will be a good addition to whatever teams finally signs him.

True but there comes a point where it is not smart. Crabtree is hurting himself and the fact is the slot he was taken in will not pay him top 5 money it is the way it is.

An unproven rookie holding out for money vrs a proven player regardless of his ultimate legacy in the game is a massive difference

And it boils down to him acting like a spoiled brat life threw him a curve and he got an injury but he doesn't want to accept that fact and is demanding money for a draft slot he wasn't chosen in

Too bad cry over it if you want but get your *** in camp and THANK them for using their draft choice on you and whatever the size of the contract you get is.

Your rookie contract is the show us what you can do contract you next contract(s) is when you get your pay day. I truly hope and pray that the owners and the league get a rookie cap in place and get this bs over with.

Well, Crabtree cannot leverage any other team's offer either. As far as rookies are concerned, there is no free agency for at least 4 years (and I think it is 5 years for Crabtree given where he was drafted). Both he and Emmitt had their rights owned exclusively by one team and both were in a situation where their only leverage would be to hold out.

Yes, Emmitt was a champion at the time and Crabtree has done absolutely nothing. I am just saying that Crabtree is not the first (or the last) player to hold out for money.

I agree. Crabtree isn't the only idiot on the here planet! :laugh2:

I still think Dallas has a deal in place for Mr. Crabtree. Not that I really agree with the move but he'll be a Dallas Cowboy next year. Bookmark it.

Unfortunately I really doubt that.

I would go after Crabtree. It isn't often you have opportunity to get that kind of talent when your team vying for the playoffs. Crabtree would take a couple of seasons and really be the game changer the offense needs.

As others have pointed out, it depends on what it would cost. He may very well be willing to take less money to play in Dallas than he would from SF.
He won't last unil the 2nd round. I think he'll go mid-1st round but even if he slips out of the top 20, there's no way he gets past the Jets.
Like I said above, it depends on the deal. You say he will be available in the draft, but it would probably take a 1st round selection to get him. Why do that if SF is willing to trade his rights for a 2nd rounder just to cut their losses? Not to mention the fact that they may very well get the 1st rounder they would want from some other team (again, the Jets come to mind).

If Randy Moss slid to 22nd (or thereabout), I can see this guy sliding to the 2nd round or worse. Production out of Texas Tech's offense has to be somewhat if not significantly devalued.

I could see a lot of GM's not wanting to take a risk with trying to sign this guy at what has to be a much lower contract than he has available to him now that he is turning down.

I think he's making a huge mistake, but maybe he'll prove us wrong. It's hard to believe he's already missed 25% of the season (after Sunday, obv)

(BTW, I went to Texas Tech)

The more I think about the Crabtree/Niner standoff,i'm starting to think that Crabtree has taken the situation as a personal attack.Unfortunately the NFL is a business and it's just business as usual to the Niners, while Crabtree has taken it as a personal attack. If indeed he takes it as such, the situation may be irreparable. If this is the case the only options will be to forfeit their rights to him prior to years draft or trade his rights to a team that he is willing to deal with.

I know who would be dumb enough to trade a 1st round pick for him! Behold:

The only way we will be able to trade for Crabtree is if we talk Coakley out of retirement, and then trade him for Crabtree and 3 future 1st round draft picks.

Dexter Coakley is our only hope

Why would we want a CRAB-tree when we have an OGLE-tree?

How many trees do you need on a field?

The CRAB-tree has crabs. Everyone OGLES at the other tree because he at least has taken some snaps in the NFL.

Everything I was able to find out about him in college makes him look just like Antonio Bryant ony dumber and more physically gifted. It took AB 5 years and getting kicked off four teams to figure it out. How long will it take this numbie?

Oh, was that a joke?

I never heard it before...

Anyway, why have a rook that is discontent coming out of the gate over someone that WANTS to play...that's all I'm saying.
