Couple that playoff win with a strong December, a team that finishes strong and is clearly on the upward path, and that's a big YES.

Finish with a weak December, lack of discipline, eck out a first round victory, and then implode in round two with poor play, and that's a big NO.

It's as much about the direction, commitment, and style with which the team finishes the season as it is winning/losing the final game.
This is the best answer on this thread in my opinion.

The funniest expectation on this thread is continued rehashing of the notation that Wade Phillips will be fired or demoted (take your pick) and then be re-hired or renamed as the team's defensive coordinator. It's not that the possibility doesn't exist. It's just that the odds of that happening are worst than winning Powerball, which is 195,249,054 to one.

******! It's Saturday and Powerball's up to 70 mil! Gotta run!

It is the same story as it has been.

A playoff win could save his job, but that depends on how his defense contributes to the overall success of the team.

If the offense carries the team this season and the defense fails to rise up as they did late last year under his express guidance, why should it? It is obvious he is not a true head coach and is a glorified defensive coordinator. How his defense performs should be used to gauge his success as a "head coach".

For 2010, I would still go the route of Holmgren or Shanahan no matter what happens short of a deep playoff run or Super Bowl. We need someone in charge and I have have a feeling that will make itself evident yet again at various points throughout the season. This dual coordinator/head coach mess Jones is pushing right now is a horrible model.

Last year the line was Super Bowl or bust.
This year we are talking about winning A playoff game.
Sounds like regression to me, but i might be wrong.

Modifying expectations is never a good thing. Hopefully Jones does not think like a lot of us do, which is simply being satified with the playoff drought ending. This lack of a true head coach is killing us and I hope he realizes that. This continuity kick is not all the meaningful if what it all equates itself to is spinning our wheels in the mud. We need a head coach capable of winning a championship. Right now, we have one whose crowning achievement would be a singular playoff win. That's horrible.

I just thought of something.

The thread title needs to be changed.

It should read: Does a 2nd playoff win save Wade's job?

Remember he already won that bye week playoff game :lmao2::lmao::lmao2:

I'm just concerned that a win will give the crypt keeper a false sense of security and keep the same practices and policies in place. I'd almost rather totally bomb, and hope we get Holmgren or Shanahanahan.

Because one win would satisfy a lot of us, but for me; and for Jerry - as counter productive as he is to the process, but this is a Super Bowl team with very talented players.

They just have had two extremes as head coaches, and went from feeling like they couldn't fart with the Tuna - to feeling like they can pants assistent coaches.

Best post of the thread. We are a SB caliber team. The comfort zone these players slipped into last year resulted in our failure.

Once you get in, and you start riding that crazy train of momentum, ya never know what can happen.

I was hoping and praying that we would do that following our big win against the Giants, but as usual - these *******s read the press clippings, and consistently laid eggs when it mattered most.

Them beating the Giants was more about the Giants being completely inept on offense and the team circling the wagon against a team they clearly have animosity towards. I wish they could show some of that fire against the Commanders or Eagles.

The Eagles game, as bad as the score looked - we were still in it. Had we not had two turnovers in the redzone it would've been 17 all. But we folded, and our guys played like ******* in a win and you're in game.

It hasn't been since the Patriots game that I've seen a team beat us, with our guys giving it their all - and playing relatively sound football across the board.

These guys just always find a way to beat themselves.

Would still prefer a Shanahan type (or even Cowher if he doesn't demand too much control). Having Wade around to run our defense would be a huge boon, but not at the expense of keeping him in the HC role.

I wish we could get Shanahan to replace Garrett right now, that's the real problem with this team.

Concurrence. Wade stinks but Garrett's smoldering comfort at the OC position is killing any hope of offensive rejuvenation and creativity.

If he wins a playoff game, I hope a gold statue of him is constructed outside the new stadium.
