Does anybody besides me think that Burnett was a wasted pick?

He is.

Hate to say I told you so but...

I told you so.

I think it's more of a fact that BP doesn't like him and he thinks he's too cocky than it is a fact that he can't play.

Either way, he is a 2nd round pick and should be playing. He is not. That makes him a bust currently for sake of argument.

does anyone really know what position he plays next year? ILB or OLB? or will it depend on who we get.

Bradie James is not an adequate comparison. There is a difference in the expectation level between a very high second round choice and a fourth round choice.

Burnett is not a "bust" yet, but I am sure the team is disappointed in his production after his first year.

Something like is should be saved in the emoticons. It'd probably be the most used one in the house, except perhaps the :hammer: one.

Trick, get on it.

Done... ;)

Too bad I found it so late in the season. I'd post it at the beginning of every game thread...

There should be a board rule against discussing first year players.

Halleluah!! How in the world can ANY rookie player who had surgery before the season, came back & got injured, and was slow to come around be a freaking bust??????!!!!!!!!!
Dude missed half or most of training camp. How many times have we heard that any rookie that misses or holds out for part/all of camp is risking not being ready to play their entire first season?

It happens to a 2nd rd. pick due to health issues, & suddenly he's a bust.

I really wish more people would think before they speak on these posts. Spears has been pretty much healthy all year, and I don't see him setting the world on fire. Maybe it's because he is a ROOKIE, learning to play on a different level. At least he's playing the same scheme & position he played in college. Burnett doesn't even have that going for him.

Man, some of you guys are impossible. Give these young guys a break. Let him finish the season, have a good offseason of workouts, and come back to camp healthy. I'll bet you right now, Burnett will not only start opening day, but will have a solid season next year.

I agree with you completely. His NFL.com scouting report said that some team would be fooled by his measureables and mistakenly draft him before the 3rd round. With his collegiate injury history and the fact that he is a one-dimensional run stuffing lb who can't cover makes me wonder what they were thinking. I thought the same thing about Al Johnson too, he carried a 3rd round grade too, yet we drafted him in the 2nd round. Parcells seems to have history of making questionable draft decisions,i.e.Terence Newman over Kevin Williams, when we could have gotten Rashean Mathis in the second round;his production is almost identical to Newman's, maybe even a little better. I don't have to mention Jacob Rogers over Shawntea Spencer in 2004 or the Henson pick we lost which could have been used on a RT or WR or Travis Daniels or Ray Willis.

Exactly, no comparison at all.

yep Burnett is a high 2nd rder. I was hoping for him to make an immediate impact. He hasnt done anything this year, but i'm willing to give him more time. I will be disappointed though if he doesnt start next year.

IF he is not a LEGIT contributor on defense in 2006 then yes, I will say he was a bust...

Going to give him one more training camp and season before dropping that on him.

You knew all that before it even happened. Your a genius dude.

Who cares what 'grade' these players had on whatever scouting report.com you used? Was Tom Brady a 6th round grade back when he was drafted? What is he now? What was Bills OT Mike Williams' grade in 2002? Now? Could go own and own and prove the crud your pulling is a joke. The draft is not an exact science and some people are better than others at it. BP has made some bad picks, but more good ones. I'm happy with the way he's drafted. Nobody hits on every pick, nobody.

How can anyone consider Burnett a poor draft pick in his first year after hearing some people claiming Merriman better then Ware (and then watching Ware on Saturday make 9 tackles, 3 sacks and 3 forces fumbles. Also some were saying Julius should be benched in favor of Barber, etc and then again on Saturday he runs for 194 yards & 2 TDs. Let's use some sense and give these young guys a little time. Wonder how good you were the first day, or even first couple of months, in your first even job.

Burnett had a good game in Charlotte and seems to be coming on. Because he has all the physical tools, he has a big upside. I'd hold judgement for a while.

What early 2nd round picks are tearing up the league right now as rookies?

Just a list of 5 or 10 would be nice. 15 or more would be excellent. They must be plentifull since Burnett is so far behind the curve. Shouldn't be too hard to look up.

Just judge him the same way we here all judged Quincy Carter.....In fact judge all our 2nd round picks that way.......Thats the standard set here.....why change?

So many players here get a pass.......and most of them were drafted higher in the 2nd then Carter.

So far....going by this standard.....Burnett is a bust

Just keeping it real :)
