Does anybody besides me think that Burnett was a wasted pick?

After finding out he was a Commanders fan and that he didnt want to come to DAllas, I say YEs ( Total bias opinion).

ON a real note. He hasnt done anything to say otherwise.

Nope. Think Bradie James.............
Is that supposed to be encouraging? If so it isn't. Bradie James has improved but not to the point that I don't still want to replace him with a better talent; he is mediocre at best.

He's no Ray Lewis but he's been better than mediocre this year.

Too soon to tell, either way. Even for the rookies that are playing well it's too soon. They can ALL be great or they can ALL be horrible, regardless of what they're doing now.

That's why you wait 2, 3, or 4 years before grading a draft.

I had Odell Thurman higher on my board. Even went as far to draw Ray Lewis comparisons.....

Burnett pissed the organization off by having hip surgery and not telling team. He has done something this year to also piss Parcells off enough to not trust playing him much.

Just like last year and Reshard Lee, this year TT, See TT's fumble that damn near ended our season Saturday. I trust BP call here.

That said - Burnett has a lot of talent and with a year of maturity - may step up just fine......

I know he has been hurt, but Burnett seems like he was a bad selection in round 2 this year?

So many in here quit on Brady James and he is really doing good this year. Give Burnett another year or 2. He is gonna real good.

Great Post!. Isn't it ironic how people make excuses for everyone but Carter. But then why should Carter need anyone to make excuses for him when he got his team to the playoffs in his first full year of playing time while Joey Harrington,David Carr,Heath Schuler,Ryan Leaf and others still haven't done it.
Any of those qbs would get into the playoffs with the coach/schedule/defense we had that year. Not sure why you included the other two...Running out of names I suppose...

You had some really good commets on draft katr, but on Parcells not drafting Kevin Williams you were wrong. Parcells wanted Kevin Williams, but Jerry Jones wanted Terrance Newman, so u know who won out on that, even Parcells said, he tried to trade down to get Kevin Williams about 7th or 8th slot, no takers.
On Al Johnson you were right, a 3rd rounder, and the scouts said take him in 3rd round, they were jumping up and down in war room for Jason Witten, fortunately Witten was still there in 3rd round.
Cant remember guy you talked about OT that we should have gotten, that the Vikings took best I remember, but like you, I look at about 5 or 6 draft reports, and make up my own mind. but good post though.

have you considered the fact that maybe he's not getting quality coaching. Just a thought: Mike Zimmer is coaching the outside linebackers for the first time in his career in the same year that he's coaching the 3-4 for the first time. That's a lot for a coach to have to learn and then teach to the players

I'm more concerned about Spears making plays than Burnett right now. 0.5 sacks for a 1st rounder at this point, is not very encouraging to say the least.

You people do realize that DE's in a 3-4 don't get very many sacks right?? Getting pressure on their QB isn't really their job, as much as taking up blockers and allowing the LBs too. Spears has done a nice job as a starter in our 3-4, but if your honestly expecting many sacks your crazy.

with his talent and upside, no way

too early to get a good read on him, since he was hurt, that seemed to slow his development a little bit...give him 2 more years and then we'll talk

and think about it for a moment, Burnett was lighting it up in TC, remember Zimmy's comments? although they carry no weight with some...there's no way the coaching staff gives up on him, boy has tremendous talent, and smarts

I think it's more of a fact that BP doesn't like him and he thinks he's too cocky than it is a fact that he can't play.

wow, I didn't expect this from you

you have something written down anywhere that proves your point?

I really wish more people would think before they speak on these posts. Spears has been pretty much healthy all year, and I don't see him setting the world on fire. Maybe it's because he is a ROOKIE, learning to play on a different level. At least he's playing the same scheme & position he played in college. Burnett doesn't even have that going for him.

Spears got hurt in the offseason too, and he played a 4-3 in college under Saban, although he was prepped well, and played some 3-4, only Canty has experience in the 3-4

I agree with you completely. His NFL.com scouting report said that some team would be fooled by his measureables and mistakenly draft him before the 3rd round. With his collegiate injury history and the fact that he is a one-dimensional run stuffing lb who can't cover makes me wonder what they were thinking. I thought the same thing about Al Johnson too, he carried a 3rd round grade too, yet we drafted him in the 2nd round. Parcells seems to have history of making questionable draft decisions,i.e.Terence Newman over Kevin Williams, when we could have gotten Rashean Mathis in the second round;his production is almost identical to Newman's, maybe even a little better. I don't have to mention Jacob Rogers over Shawntea Spencer in 2004 or the Henson pick we lost which could have been used on a RT or WR or Travis Daniels or Ray Willis.

still mad that BP cut QC I see...

and you read the wrong scouting reports, because all the ones I read on Burnett, said he was good in coverage, and could blitz, he's far from 1-dimensional

All I have to say is the same thing was said about Bradie James after his first and second season. Give Burnett some time before you declare him a bust. I actually think he will be starting next to James on the inside next season.
