Does anybody besides me think that Burnett was a wasted pick?

What early 2nd round picks are tearing up the league right now as rookies?

Just a list of 5 or 10 would be nice. 15 or more would be excellent. They must be plentifull since Burnett is so far behind the curve. Shouldn't be too hard to look up.

Tearing up the league? No.

But here are five to ten that are at least starting or contributing to a greater degree than Kevin has thus far:

Lofa Tatupu, Odell Thurman - both LBers and they are "tearing up the league".

Khalif Barnes - LT for the Jaguars

Nick Collins - FS for the Packers

Shaun Cody - Very effective in the Lions rotation at DT and has started.

Josh Bullocks - Now starting for the Saints

Corey Webster - nickelback for the Giants

Marcus Johnson - starting RT for Minnesota

David Baas - starting RG for San Francisco

There are others like Brodney Pool, Mike Nugent, Barrett Rudd, Stanford Routt, Reggie Brown, Jonathan Babineaux, Bryant McFadden and so on.

I watched Burnett at UT (Knoxville, Tn) for his entire career. He will be Pro-Bowl caliber if he can shake off the injuries. The guy has a non-stop motor and a nose for the ball. I'm actually shocked that he hasn't been at the EXXON up the street signing autographs like Witten did his rookie season. He's that good!

Cotton Bowl notebook
BY MIKE CONNOLLY

IRVING, Texas – Before a practice earlier this week at Texas Stadium, Tennessee linebacker Kevin Burnett looked around the home of the Dallas Cowboys. He glanced up at all the championship banners and was completely unimpressed.

"It’s an experience practicing at a historical site. You look up at the banners and you say ‘wow I thought this place was much better looking on the inside,’’" Burnett said with his famous grin. "Growing up a 49ers fan, I hate Dallas. That’s how I feel about Texas Stadium."

Saturday’s Cotton Bowl against Texas A&M will be Burnett’s last game at Tennessee. The All-American will likely be picked in the early rounds of the NFL Draft, but he is not too keen on possibly playing for the Cowboys. He already took a page from Terrell Owen’s book and danced on the blue star at midfield.

"Everyone has done the T.O. thing this week," Burnett said. "The whole team – everyone wants to stand on the star – especially the 49er fans."

I guess were bored and cant fathom that a rookie cant be considered a bust until at least after his second season.

He hasnt been inserted into the defense much but I have seen him make some plays. Most noticeably him almost getting a safety at the goalline a few weeks ago.

He was hurt and Parcells held him back. If he was getting blown up routinely like Shanle and Fujita you may have a point but hes not.

You knew all that before it even happened. Your a genius dude.

Who cares what 'grade' these players had on whatever scouting report.com you used? Was Tom Brady a 6th round grade back when he was drafted? What is he now? What was Bills OT Mike Williams' grade in 2002? Now? Could go own and own and prove the crud your pulling is a joke. The draft is not an exact science and some people are better than others at it. BP has made some bad picks, but more good ones. I'm happy with the way he's drafted. Nobody hits on every pick, nobody.

I do my homework. I don't look at one scouting report, I look at them all and draw a consensus. If that makes me a genius in your eyes, so be it. I'm not wrong often cause I do my homework. Anyone can look up a scouting report and read the injury history of a player. Don't use Brady as an example of 'greatness'. Every position on that team plays well cause that's the way their coached. The real title of 'greatness' belongs to Belichick. Brady doesn't play defense and that's what's won them their titles. Richard Seymour,Vince Wilfork,Ty Warren, Willie McGinest are all first rounders and Eugene Wilson is a high second. Spags once said that you can't all 1st rounders on your D-line, Well, don't tell that to Belichick.
Yes. Parcells has picked some good players, but anybody can do that sometimes. His oversight on Kevin Williams in 2003 and Darnell Docket in 2004 caused him to go all Defense in 2005 and go too heavy on defense and too light on offense. His drafting of Sean Ryan in 2004 instead of Kelly Butler RT caused our RT problems this year. His drafts are inefficient and spotty, that's why after 3 years we still have glaring weaknesses at several positions. This year we are doing better because the NFC as a whole is down and we get to play against the paper-machier AFC West defenses and the NFC West stinks except for one team and we lost to them. Ironic isn't it, we lost to the best teams in the AFC West and NFC West and were embarrassed by the Giants and Commanders who I thought would be a playoff team this year, not the 4th place team that everone else thought they would be. Is that genius enough for you?

Just judge him the same way we here all judged Quincy Carter.....In fact judge all our 2nd round picks that way.......Thats the standard set here.....why change?

So many players here get a pass.......and most of them were drafted higher in the 2nd then Carter.

So far....going by this standard.....Burnett is a bust

Just keeping it real :)

Great Post!. Isn't it ironic how people make excuses for everyone but Carter. But then why should Carter need anyone to make excuses for him when he got his team to the playoffs in his first full year of playing time while Joey Harrington,David Carr,Heath Schuler,Ryan Leaf and others still haven't done it.

Listen to what you're saying, 'If he can shake off the injuries'. He was injury prone at UT and has already had one surgery in his first training camp. High second rounders with injury concerns is not a good choice, just like Rogers and Al Johnson, especially when scouts say that you shouldn't touch him before the third round. I'm not against him and I'm not saying that he wont pan out, I'm saying that that's not smart drafting to take chances in the second round with players who injury concerns. Canty was a good risk because he was selected on day 2. That's a big difference.

Parcells loves him. Has talked consistently the last few weeks that Burnett continues to get better!

Do you really believe the rubbish you post? Carter is AFL or CFL bound at best.

As far as Burnett, its too early to call him a bust, but he is without a doubt a disappointment so far.

When you have a 6-10 team, your high second rounders should be good enough to either start or see significant playing time. Granted, it is too early to completely write him off, but several other second rounders (including LBers) have had a much more significant impact at this point.

Bradie isn't a good comparision since he was a 4th rounder and Burnett is a second rounder.

Burnett is a heck of an athlete and he is probably best suited to be a 4-3 weakside backer or a weak side ILB in the 3-4 (Dat's position). It'll be interesting to see how he responds this offseason.

I do think he got in BP's doghouse somehow. He was getting tons of reps early and eventually ended up cut out of everything.

Yes. I think if a player doesn't show he's all-pro by one month, he should be cut immediately. ;)

No. It's too early to tell. Look at James, took two years to develop.

I think you will see alot more of Burnett next year if hes not starting then. You add another middle lb with James, have Ware and Burnett on the outsides. That with a ballhawk free safety and its Doomsday allover again.

Dude, youhave a history of stating B.S. as facts... well here's another. Every draft profile I read pretty much said low first round or high second round for Burnett.

You might can find one who said he should go in the third... but almost every one I read said a 1st to 2nd round pick.

I'm more concerned about Spears making plays than Burnett right now. 0.5 sacks for a 1st rounder at this point, is not very encouraging to say the least.

Spare me the congratulations you give yourself, it's embarrassing. You think awfully high of yourself, don't you.

First of all, the "greatness" in New England was Charlie Weis(just ask all of us ND fans) and second of all, if you think the Patriots win 3 of 4 Bowls without Brady, you're dreaming. I really can't stand Brady, being a ND fan, but he's the reason they're on a roll right now this season. They've been banged up everywhere this year and he's been the glue keeping that team together.
