Does anyone else think different and better coaching could help Dak?

This was a fail of the front office that didnt get a deal done early. They tried to play hardball and it backfired. Never blame the player for getting paid

I agree 100% . The owner bargained against himself with no backup plan if they didn’t sign Dak.

if you recall, many of us were for franchising Dak AND drafting or signing another Qb so there would be an option…..but as usual, he provided no other option and had to pay the ransom

but, no, I never blame the seller……only the buyer……it’s going to be interesting to see what happens with Lamar Jackson’s situation if he’s franchised to see if they do the same exact thing

The Jones' screwed up with getting the deal don early - they made the bed and now have to sleep in it for the next couple of years.
The easy answer to the original question is .... Maybe, we have no other choice but to find out by bringing in a new OC and QB coach. Dak was not an Int. turnover machine with Kitna - Just saying...;).
New OC, QB coach, and build back the OL in front of him to allow for a running game with play action....... We got no other choice the next couple years.

I think better coaching is the only route we have right now, Dak is here to stay. Drafting is also an option and seeing if he can slowly over take the starting job. That's about it.
Getting rid of Moore will be essential to any progress, otherwise it'll be early exits over the next couple years.

Did nobody read his scouting report before he was drafted. You can’t say we weren’t warned.

This^^^^

We must release Elliott and draft another RB while probably franchise tagging Pollard who is great but not sure that every down back we want to invest a big long term contract in.

And TE is an issue . Not sure Dalton is the Star we need to invest in long term but no doubt our #2 receiver after Lamb. Gallup is the big question mark. A flop for his big contract signing. Hopefully that’s more about recovering from his injury . But we must also either draft another slot receiver and or pursue one in FA.

We must have talent playmakers on offense which can uplift our QB. Our QB isn’t enough to uplift average talent around him.

And G2 this isn’t directed at you but your keen insight spurred my response. Thanks

And That's probably the leading reason why these every down back are not lasting long, pounded and worn down or becoming brittle.

- Old school type coaches tend to beat them to a pulp, as they feel back loading on them is the only way they can win.

- Guys like Chris Johnson, Zeke and Shady McCoy was so used up early before you know it ...

Heard Will McClay this morning say he hopes Dallas can get the free agent DT out of Washington. I'm hoping we can also. I love me some Zeke but he'll have to take a rock bottom pay cut to stay. And even then it might not work. That's why these guys were so emotional after the lose. They knew this team-they had now. Would never be together again.
I had the same perception - maybe the last go round as a group. Would have been a nice story. Just ran out of time for the finishing chapter.

A better OC.. this is a joke here. If Dak has to stay Kellen Moore has to go. I'd bring in Sean Payton and get rid of all of them. But we'll probably be a little too late to the party on that one.

Of course. We need a better OC. Dak is good but he isn't Mahomes so coming up with schemes that fit his style and skills is skey. Moore didn't do that and was poor at simple things like getting Gallup the ball. Yea we had an amazing year being top league offense but we need that extra in the playoffs and he didn't have all the guys he's in charge of clicking together this season.

Step 1 is STOP seeing him as something other than a game manager! I would not call that better coaching...I would call it a change in philosophy.

I am no Dak Lover or Hater. Many of us here have long known who Dak is and who he is not. Had the people that are paid to know these things (front office/coaches) known this...the situation with Dak would have NEVER gotten to 40m. Jerry expects people to play to their paycheck. But that is not how this always works. If that were the case...the Cowboys would not be the highest valued franchise in the history of sports...without having played in a conference championship since 1995!

If you want to give this team a chance the next 2 years. Forget what Dak is making..and commit to surrounding him with the pieces to push us to the next level. We were the 3rd best team in the NFC all year....and that is EXACTLY how the season finished. BUILD FROM THERE!!! Do what you can to try and catch the 49ers/Eagles....or some other team (Lions?) is going to pass you by.

The 49ers beat us last year and have gotten better. The Eagles were behind us last year...IMPROVED and have now passed us. Do you job Dallas front office!

Nick Foles, Joe Flacco, Russell Wilson, Trent Dilfer, Peyton Manning his last years in Denver...all won Super Bowls. You can win with Dak...but it is going to require more than paying him a lot of money. And quite frankly, you can't cut him, so a MAJOR change is needed.
I respect this response. Makes sense. Reasonable and honest. It's what's needed. He's not Mahomes but he's Dak and we can win with him.

True, maybe another QB can teach Moore to run different routes than going to the sticks and turning. I have PTSD from The curl routes that remind me of Garrett.

ANYTHING will help at this point. However, I don’t believe you can “coach” him into seeing field better, processing what he DOES see, and making good decisions.

Dak is wildly inconsistent. If all Dak has to do is play action, he's good. If he has to do anything else a good NFL QB can do, he can't get it done. Forget this surrounding him with talent. There's not enough talent to be had with the cap space we have. You can't have pro bowlers at every position. At some point HE has to step up. He routinely fails to do so when it matters most.

Receivers were getting open. His eyes were locked on Schultz and CD. Yeah, it's the other players faults they were getting open and he was only throwing it into coverage to those two. He definitely needs more talent around him to keep him from doing that. *eyerolls*

The line protected him very well most of the game against the number one defense. The defense held a high scoring offense to 19 (13 were it not for Dak).... The team played well enough to win with the exception of Dak.

Stop this stupid "Dak just needs more talent and better coaching" rhetoric. He choked.

Exactly. The original Draftwire pros and cons report reads as though it were written yesterday. As though a 7 year growth in improvement has never happened and whose rookie year was still his peak.
