Does coaching really matter?

This reply is a shocker....................
Sure.

A lot of people believe if you can"t quantify sometbing..

It doesn't exist.

I have been fortunate enough to know luck always is a factor in anything.

Took 2 years in college for my pre-med degree of statistics and probability for lab experiments.

A small percentage always has to be allowed in research. It's usually listed as 'Other' in the outcome list.

It's the unexplainable outside the norm outcomes.

Luck.

So I read with interest how people Google stuff and take it as gospel becuz it says so on their computer.

What a laugh.

You take good players and use them to their strengths.

The old regime took guys they thought would fit their scheme and philosophy. Pretty much trying to fit a round peg into a square hole.
Hey..

It's a living.

Being a scout or talent specialist is always dependent on what your experience is with the criteria.

If it fits you, great.

If not, you fake it and hope you can get by and collect your check and get DTR.

Goodness..

Who pissed in your cheerios?

Take it easy, big guy.

Down down..we are all fans.

Just different flavors.

Karma?

"You are what you are because of the decisions you make."

This is practically the very definition of Karma.

And you do not believe in Karma?

:lmao:
I don't believe in luck or karma. You to a point have control of your life and how you live unless theres a man made disease that keeps you under house arrest.

I ssee..

:lmao:

Good comeback.

Love humor if you can find it today.

So get ready to go back to work.

I understand the NFL SB will be won by the team with the fewest sick players.

Savey?

Also Tom Brady wasn't luck. Tony Romo wasn't luck either. Fortunate to have them become what they became, yes, but not luck. Tom Brady knew who, what he was and who, what he was going to become. What 6th round pick says to the owner the first time they meet that they are going to be the best pick they ever made and mean it. He worked his *** off, became what he knew he could become. Thats hard work, not luck. He made himself.

...that and scheme, placing your talent level in the best positions to succeed.

I guess if you take enough drugs, you can convince yourself that we never drafted a good player while Garrett and Marinelli were here and that this makes any kind of sense. Maybe those same drugs will help you forget that McCarthy has a worse record than Garrett since 2012 and also decided to pass on TJ Watt. But hey, what could go wrong?

Agree. There are issues....

I need to see wins.

Saying Garrett ran set schemes and wouldn't adapt to different types of players on offense is silly. He's run the gamut on the types of offensive players he's accomodated during his time here (2007-2019).

Pocket passers and mobile QBs who called for us to install the option into our playbook.

Bruising running backs, complete running backs, and tiny gadget RBs who could barely be trusted to hand the ball to them on real running plays. Blocking fullbacks and more finesse, speedier fullbacks.

Lumbering blocking tight ends and weaker TEs who are good only at running routes in the passing game.

Big physical receivers and little speedy ones. Guys who are route-running technicians and guys who get by purely on physical talent and dont know route-running well enough to competently coach a high school receiver on how to properly run routes.

Sloppy fat o-linemen and leaner athletic ones.

Our offense took in all different kinds of guys over the years when Garrett ran the offense and ran the team.

It was only defense where we became entirely inflexible and unable/unwilling to accommodate players who deviated from a rigid template, and I think that was solely the Tampa 2 guys' issue. Prior to switching to Kiffin and Marinelli, I think we had more flexibility.

As I've mentioned in the past, love the depth of your posts. Your Chan Gailey coach firing circumstance post was equally insightful with supportive commentary that you consistently provide. Love your prose bro. Keep up the great work and post more. Your posts give me an actual reason to read instead of just flip through regurgitated and or repeated banter. Your original thought that is usually backed with empirical history data on the team is a refreshing style to read. Great job.

Clearly the Cowboys war room liked the guys we picked more than most other clubs. We are either ahead of the curve or we can't evaluate. We need to see these guys in action to know.

Most of those coaches you mentioned still got to championship games without a QB and in short periods of time.

There is no Luck in not drafting a TJ Watt because your of your scheme. There is no Luck in drafting Chaisson over Lamb because you had your eyes set on a certain player. There is only stupidity and laziness. JG not being here helps.
Really? lets see.... Seifert won SBs with Steve Young and Joe Montana. No QB? Andy Reid went to the SB with McNabb, likely a HOF qb, Jimmy won 2 SBs with Troy Aikman Tomlin hasnt won jack without Big Ben behind center. So which of these coaches won with no qb? By the way, Tomlin took over a team just like Barry Switzer did.... ready to rock and roll.

Coaching in the NFL is more important than in any other professional sport. Hence the best coach has been owning this league for 2 decades. With different players coming in and out every year.
your about to see how great billy boy is. Players coming and going... yep, except the one that mattered most.

You need coaching to maximize your abilities while exploiting weaknesses of your opponents. This is the difference in having a good team when the relative talent level is level with your opponents. To take that next step though to being Super Bowl caliber, you also need special talent to go along with the coaching (although one wonders about the Barry Switzer days...)

Every year 25% of coaches are new. They are coming from a team that set the world on fire... they come in, some do well for a little bit, some come in and suck... but they all were supposed to be gurus. Some get lucky and get a russel wilson, or an Aaron Rodgers (MM) and if you luck into that... yiu are good to go. Amazing how that iffensive mastermind was avg when Alex Smith was in KC... Mahomes showed up, and the mastermind returned.

Weve seen belichek win without tom. Bill's top 10 defenses carried tom more than ppl know
what have we seen bill win? I saw him suck in Cleveland, and he only had no Tom once while in NE, and they didnt do jack.

JG getting 11 wins and doing nothing in playoffs was good? bahahahahahahaha.... they missed the playoffs, but hey, those 11 wins set the world on fire.
Only team in nfl history to miss the playoffs with 11 wins. Like i said top 10 defense every year

oh look, a Garrett apologist. Lol
