Does Garrett survive this scenario?

Those coaches didn't take over playoff contenders either? We had our franchise QB and the top pass rusher in the game. We weren't depleted, as much as we would like to believe. The OL was rebuilt over 4 years and the DL is now just getting some attention. Roster turnover is different than rebuilding. The OL was soft until last season due to poor drafting/planning admittedly. Good q @CyberBob. It would be hard for even me to justify moving on after 11-5, but 5 years without a playoff win doesn't support JG as being very influential either. Crappy scenario if it played out that way tbh (for fans and Garrett).

You have to give him credit for changing most of the entitlement attitude that was there. The discipline has gotten better and as much as it has been beat to death, he has been getting the RKG, from the QB, "Diva" WR down to the 53rd guy on the roster. The talent is not quite there especially on the defensive side of the ball. I actually think it is harder to retool and be competitive like this team has been, even at 8-8 they were in it until the end then to blow it up and truly rebuild.

The question is, if this happens with 11-5 record and miss playoffs, what would Bubba (of Mike&Mike) do. He wins the bet with Golic, but Golic would say "Sorry, there is no playoff game for me to send you to....LOL

for the first time EVER I am on the Jason bandwagon. He's done a fine job this year.

I agree that there has been improved discipline, decreased mental errors, and an established identity (running game). We all love Romo and the show he can put on, but for team stability; this formula doesn't leave you as vulnerable to mistakes and protects the D. I'll admit I wouldn't fire JG if the team went 11-5 even with my reservations about him personally; esp considering Rod/Linney aren't exactly HC material if history is correct.

I think Rod and Linny are the Anti-norv, they know what they excel ate and they do not need to put in the longer hours of the HC.

I think it would depend on how it all turns out in the end....but I can't imagine any 11 win coach getting fired. Let alone one who finally has his team trending in the right direction.

It's possible for the Cowboys to go 11-5 and miss the playoffs. If this happens, does he get another year, or is it playoffs or bust?
So, if the Cowboys follow up three 8-8 seasons by going 11-5, achieved by going 3-2 against a schedule that includes Philly twice, the Colts and a December game in Chicago, you think they might respond to that by firing the head coach? Because they happen to become the second team ever (I think?) to miss the playoffs with an 11-5 record?

Yeah, I don't think so.

I wanted Garrett gone after 2012 and 2013, no doubt about it but this year I see something other posters (pro Garrett) have been saying for a while, he´s a good HC and his players buy into what he is telling them, he can get better on certain things but so do most other HC around the league.

If we miss the playoffs with an 11-5 record I don´t think he should be fired, the only way I could see that happening (although I doubt it) is if that 5th loss is in week 17 against the Commanders, another loss in a win or go home game could be the end of it, not saying it should but it could.

I can't imagine Jerry firing Jason if we go 11-5, under any circumstance. We're on too good a path, with too obvious an opportunity to get better next year just by adding talent on defense. Any shake up adds more uncertainty than it resolves.

That would be some major suckage if we were close with 8-8 seasons and 11-5 and we don't make it.

I don't understand how some fans can watch games every Sunday and witness the type of team Garrett has built and still want him gone. He has changed the culture of the team since the Wade Phillips years and they're 8-3 after the components have finally come together. It seems as if they'd rather be 3-8 right now if it meant him not being here. The players would run through a brick wall for him, is that not evident?

the Bears fired 10-6 Lovie Smith two years ago for lack of recent playoff success despite the fact he had taken the Bears to the Superbowl.
Yes they in fact fired Lovie Smith after going 10&6. My question to that is, how that has worked out for them? I think Jason Garrett has improved as a coach since he has become a walk around coach. We are winning more than losing. How could anyone want him fired is beyond me. To get back on topic I think Jason is staying barring an epic meltdown down the stretch.

I would expect nobody here on CZ wants Garret gone right now during the season.

What is fair to say, however, is it is a results oriented league. If he gets to the playoffs and has a 1st round exit I think he buys himself another year. If somehow he didn't get a playoff victory the next season I'd expect him to be gone. All hypothetical of course.

What is the record for most seasons as a HC without a playoff victory?

I love that people are still trying to invent ways for him to get fired.

I swear, the word insanity is not too strong a word. The USA today picked Dallas to go 3-13 this season. That was THEIR evaluation of our talent. I dare say that the MAJORITY of this forum didn't see Dallas winning much more than 8 games, and MANY less than 8. And people are essentially asking, CAN WE PLEASE FIRE HIM IF WE GO 11-5?

INSANE.

I agree with you, winning makes it a clear picture for any coach. I personally believe that this team has been through the ups and downs with Garrett and the players would hate to see him go in any unlikely hypothetical situation where things go downhill. And as far as nobody wanting Garrett gone:

He'll be back, unfortunately.
