Regardless of results? Or are you meaning we'll be doing well enough that his job won't be in doubt for the foreseeable future?
I just know that when the Jones family says they want to build a system like Pittsburgh and New England with long term stability at Head Coach, rather than new schemes every 4 to 5 years, that they mean it. Jerry is tired of the failed model of revolving door for Head Coach. He wants a long term and Garrett has no desire to leave. It's a perfect storm for both.

Wasn't aware the 85 Broncos went 11-5 and missed the playoffs. That's crazy to win 11 games and end up sitting home.

That same year, the Browns won their division at 8-8. My dad is a Broncos fan. He's still pissed over that. heh

Tell me Marinelli and Linny are coming back and I feel a lot better.

Lol. The second most often parroted way of disrespecting the job Garrett has done as head coach. It's really not that hard fellas. Just 3 words.....hello my name is....I kept saying Garrett is an idiot and....

I.....was.... wrong.....

Try it, it's liberating

Marty Schottenheimer in SD: 14-2. SMH.

I tip my hat to all three of the guys that went out and found the answer, but it was somewhat rhetorical. Still cant see where it was a good idea in either of those cases, though.

Where else would they go? You think one of them is getting a HC job? I don't.

Do not say Marinelli to Tampa Bay like every other fool out there. Lovie Smith is not going to screw Leslie Frazier.

Not speaking about keeping or not keeping any coach but your premise is all coaching situations are the same.

It's a slippery slope, but you've got to set the barometer somewhere. What are we comparing him to? His predecessors in Dallas? The last two got to the playoffs quicker than Garrett did. His peers who were hired around the same time or more recently? If many of them are having quicker success, I just think it's hard to argue that Garrett needs more time.

true, BP got us to the wild card and knocked out. Wade got us to the post season won 1 and knocked out and knocked out 1st rd in the other. Should Garrett get his team into post season and actually do something would it matter if it took him longer?

How about just getting to the post season? :D But to your real question, no it doesn't, at least not in Dallas. Anywhere else, it should be used (4 years no playoffs) as a barometer or standard, but here in D with one playoff win in 20 years; this is the best we have to look forward to. JJ isn't going to hire an established HC who wants total control. If it took HC "X" 4+ years of wasting Tony's prime to garner a playoff win; only homers would claim a job well done.;)

The sooner people realize that Garrett is going to be the coach next year, the better off everyone will be.

I just checked the playoff sims and it's going to be nearly impossible for the Cowboys to finish 11-5 and NOT make the playoffs. Too many divisional games all over. And no, Garrett will definitely be back regardless.

I'm not even doubting that to this point. But let's not whitewash the past into tricking us JG has done an amazing coaching job during his tenure. It's working, and he deserves credit as the man up top. Some claim a lot of the "on field" success is related to his demotion, while others see it as his 3 years prior paying off. The team is run differently with these two coordinators than has ever been displayed so far and is hard to imagine it being run this way without their presence. That is the real disagreement here I believe.

anywhere but Dallas in the minds of some. as for 20 years Garrett is not responsible for those 20 years. He took a team that had quit on Wade and we started ditching players who frankly did not seem to buy into the team concept. Looking at todays team we are the 2nd youngest so the team Garrett took over and the team he has today are not the same. As far as Jones, maybe so, Jimmy was not an established NFL HC and teams around the league thought it was a joke. As far Tony prime? I don't know if it was wasted or not, was BP part of the wasting of his career? how much responsibility does Tony told in this matter. We had a 13-3 team and failed was that jerry fault? evidently we had players to even reach 13-3.

Would I claim job well done should Dallas make post season and say just advance into the NFC Championship game? Yes I would call that a job well done, given the fact many including many here did not give this team a snowballs chance in hell of even being in this position. If we go back to pre season predictions I doubt anyone was claiming Dallas would be 8-3 heading into Thanksgiving but now that they are well now it is different and the same old critics are still on their war path slamming Garrett anytime they get the chance. funny when Dallas has won Linehan is doing a great job but lose a game and all of a sudden it is Garrett play calling that cost us. lol You guys are just too damn funny

If Dallas finishes 11-5 but doesn't make the playoffs then he's going to keep Garrett.

It's silly to think they would fire him for an 11-5 season if the team didn't make the playoffs because of other teams playing to such crazy good records.

11-5 probably 95% of the time gets you into the playoffs so if for some reason it didn't this year you're not going to fire Garrett for something weird like that.
