The man will make $533,000 next year. He was royally screwed during the draft. He proved his worth. You think Jerry rips up the contract and sweetens the pot. Or you think he's getting $100,000 handshakes...

Jerry: Yes, La'el, I agree you deserve more of my money for your performance. Go get it from Brandon Carr.

He already got it. His contract far exceeds what most undrafted free agents get.

Compared to his 1st round status that was robbed of him due to unfortunate circumstances that were out of his control? Feel for him, and wouldn't mind some $100,000 handshakes in the meantime (I guess after 3 years is the limit they can officially redo his deal). If we want to retain him long term I think that would be the best option for JJ.

Every NFL team will get around $4 million to divide among its players as part of the NFL's performance-based pay system (which does not count against the salary cap). Collins will likely get around $300,000 of that, more than anybody else on the team. So that's a nice pay bump.

That's nowhere near what he would have gotten as a 1st rounder, but he gets to collect a free agency contract after three years instead of four or five like the drafted players, so that's a bit of an advantage as well.

Exactly what Pandora said.
Collins is underpaid but he will also receive a nice bonus as the NFL has a program to reward underpaid guys.
And he'll get his 10 million plus bonus a year or two before his peers from his draft.

The difference is Collins' contract is 100% guaranteed. He gets every dime he signed for no matter no. No draft pick in any round gets that.

I think we all feel for the kid, he went through a dark couple of weeks there that I'm sure none of us can even relate to.

That said, I agree with most of the fellas - you don't just pay someone more just because. He got a great deal from Jerry given the circumstances, $1.5m guaranteed isn't pocket change and he has an extremely high probability of getting a large contract in 2 years.

He has no immediate leverage, so there's no reason for Jerry to use cap dollars to pay him more than needed.

Yeah he got screwed big time. But he'll get rewarded with a huge extension in a couple years.

With bonuses and such, he'll earn over 1 mil each season until then.

No. Plain and simple

We out recruited everyone for his services. We couldn't help his circumstances. Good kid but he got a deal, he signed it...no need to throw more cap space at him because the team feels bad.

Why do you care?

What is it about fans who actually want to see the team have to pay more for their players?

Because at the end of the day, football is a violent and painful sport, so most fans would like to see anyone who gives 100% be compensated fairly. Now the circumstances that led to him becoming undrafted are certainly not our fault and given the language of the CBA, he's being compensated as fairly as he can be, but if there was a way, I'd be in favor of it. While it may be little consolation, if at the end of his career, he's broken physically, I'd like his bank account to reflect the effort he gives at practice and on game days.
