Compared to his 1st round status that was robbed of him due to unfortunate circumstances that were out of his control? Feel for him, and wouldn't mind some $100,000 handshakes in the meantime (I guess after 3 years is the limit they can officially redo his deal). If we want to retain him long term I think that would be the best option for JJ.

violating the salary cap isn't a joke, so I would hope there aren't any $100,000 hand shakes. and that still would not guarantee he resigns.

No rush. Three years, then franchise tags, etc. They'll keep him.

Because at the end of the day, football is a violent and painful sport, so most fans would like to see anyone who gives 100% be compensated fairly. Now the circumstances that led to him becoming undrafted are certainly not our fault and given the language of the CBA, he's being compensated as fairly as he can be, but if there was a way, I'd be in favor of it. While it may be little consolation, if at the end of his career, he's broken physically, I'd like his bank account to reflect the effort he gives at practice and on game days.

Spare me, humanitarian. I'm a Cowboys fan. I want the Cowboys to win. In this era of the salary cap, the less they can pay their players the better it is for the team and if that means some of these guys have to make do on hundreds of thousands a year instead of millions, so be it. Sometimes life isn't fair. Get a helmet.

Because they have a sense of right and wrong that is external of what they want and they understand social dynamics. In it's simplest form you've seen it referred to as the golden rule.

It denotes empathy.

The golden rule says if I made $500k+ to work out and play madden on playstation, that I should be STRAIGHT SKIPPY with what I make and not even think of crying about it.

Even if a rumor came out that your thumb don't work and they cut your salary to $100k?

Yeah, you are correct and I was mistaken. I didn't realize his contract as an UDFA was for only three years. His contract is lower than a 1st rounder but was compensated higher for that reason and can also enter FA/tagged much earlier than a standard draft pick as was pointed out up top.

Oh, I didn't mean that literally, just more of verbal promises/gentlemen agreement type of thing. I think JJ would take care of him when time comes and hope Collins shows some loyalty, etc.

how many madden players developed ALS as a result of playing Madden? If that's the argument you want to make, at least use a relevant example

The Cowboys are paying him the most money they can under the CBA and they cannot redo his contract after just 1 year.

Its not up to the Cowboys, all of this is strictly laid out in the CBA.

You asked a question. He gave you an answer. No need to be so unpleasant about it.

Why do you care?

What is it about fans who actually want to see the team have to pay more for their players?

He might not be able to feed his family.

Think about that before you make heartless comments like this.

There is empathy in the NFL?

Well, how about that.

It isn't Jerry's job to make up for all the injustices of the world.

Sorry, 500K per year will have to do for now.

Jerry also was one of the 32 teams that passed on him for 7 rounds. He was part of the injustice.

His agent played hardball with the 3rd round threat and everyone listened.

It is just business. DAL can re-do his deal after 2 years but they are under no obligation to do so and he will earn an extra 1.2m over the 4 years if he starts all those games.

Collins will make approximately $310 - 320K via the NFL's league's performance-based pay system.

It won't count against the cap.
