I think fans are heavily opinionated on many things with NFL organizations and players. My own view is I think paying out before you need to is a mistake. We see these guys getting the money then turning around and not living up to it. I think Collins needs to continue developing and he will end up getting his money as of now I think the Cowboys took a chance on a guy others were unwilling to do and got a player with very good potential at a low cost to me that bodes well for the entire team

In our case it sure seems like it is.

without having read the entire thread, I feel that Collins is playing out of position, he is a T not a guard, and he should get reps at RT to see if he is a fit there, we still have Leary for LG.

Would this even be a question in the pre-1993/1994 salary cap era? Jones would've probably rewarded Collins. Some fans would've felt empathic towards Collins finally getting compensated after his pre-draft ordeal. Other fans wouldn't have given a damn because the raise wouldn't have affected the team's ability in signing future players. Ah the good old days, before collectively bargained hard enforced salary caps and competitive balance/parity ********.

I agree but when players demanded Free Agency the teams demanded a salary cap. get rid of Free Agency and the cap will follow

Well, that's not happening in the foreseeable future seeing all the dollars that the league rakes in. Doesn't make me feel any better knowing that. Then again I've been pissed about the issue since it began. Que sera sera.

I was never a fan of FA or salary caps. You are right it is not going to change anytime soon.

I think a hard salary cap, which the NFL has, is a handicap. Personally, I would be more agreeable to a soft cap like the NBA employs. Of course I wouldn't bat an eyelash if the NFL went the MLB route and enforced a revenue sharing luxury tax. I know. Pipe dream. :(

As I said I was not happy about FA either. Frankly I don't care that much about the NBA or MLB and how they conduct their business. NFL I got to see it before FA was put in place and what it is now, all I can say is I liked it a lot more pre FA.

The salary cap is negotiated money for the players.. The owners already get their cut. Teams should not be allowed to carry money into next year.. If they don't spend it it should be split by the players on that team.. My 2 cents..

The NFLPA got absolutely abused during the CBA. They actually fell for the struggling owners line and didn't press for opening the books. They held the salary cap down artificially at 122m for 5 years from 2009 -2013.

Rolling over cap space is a joke when you get to JAX and OAK amounts of 30-40m. It should be a max of 5m. They have the minimum spending floor but the punishment is paying the money that would have spent to the players on their roster. Nothing punitive.

You're almost certainly in the minority on that one. From our perspective, we have an owner with tons of cash, but fans not as lucky almost all would hate pre free agency

I might be but Dallas was winning when they were known as one of the lowest paying teams in the NFL. Tex was a major cheap skate. lol What I love about football before FA is you built a team, I would hate to think of a guy like a Bob Lilly playing anywhere but Dallas or a Roger Staubach. Those teams were like family they played their entire careers with each other and as a fan to me it was special to see that. Now days everyone is a gun for hire and todays hero is tomorrows villain
