okay, you win, being an accountant has just as many risks as an NFL LB

Save the drama. This was a discussion about whether Collins deserves a raise, not your obsession with ALS.

They don't get overpaid because of the risks. They get overpaid because very few humans can do what they do. Any body can be an accountant or a cop or a soldier.

yes, clearly I'm obsessed with ALS because what, 4 of my over 7000 posts mention it.

I'm not the one who claims people die in every line of work.

If we use this logic, does Dez and Romo owe the team money?

Why do you care?

What is it about fans who actually want to see the team have to pay more for their players?
If I can do something now that makes it more likely that a guy like Collins will agree to a Tyron-like contract later, I absolutely want to do that. There is a potential benefit to fostering good-will toward the team from your players. Maybe throwing a few thousand extra dollars his way now can help save the team millions down the road, or at least increase the chances of that happening.

I have no idea whether that would work or whether they should do it for Collins: they know the player and the situation way better than I do. I do know that I want him to have warm fuzzy feelings about the Cowboys when he's approaching free agency.

how many madden players developed ALS as a result of playing Madden? If that's the argument you want to make, at least use a relevant example

Depends. If they were playing online and listening to a bunch of 12 year olds cuss, then they could get ALS from repeated brain trauma.

He'll get a raise in a couple of years. **** luck before the draft, but he can easily make it up if he continues to play at a high level.

The man will make $533,000 next year. He was royally screwed during the draft. He proved his worth. You think Jerry rips up the contract and sweetens the pot. Or you think he's getting $100,000 handshakes...

I think he'll be okay money-wise in the long run. I don't feel bad for him

No tired of redoing deals before the deal is done then when things do not pan out as people hope it falls back on Jerry and the Cowboys of overpaying. Collins showed a lot of promise and I look forward to seeing him continue to develop but as it stands today I think his contract should stand as is.

I think we pay far too much attention to money/salary cap issues as fans, like it is our money or something.

Maybe so but the reason is these moves have a domino effect and has a direct bearing on the salary cap. If Collins continues to improve as a player he will get his money but right now there is a contract in place and Dallas has no reasons to change that.

Yes, but fans try too hard to judge the effect on the cap.

Don't pay Dez that much, it will hurt the salary cap. We're doomed if Romo is done because of all of his dead money. Etc.

At one point in time, when the cap was still new, there was reason to worry about the cap's effect on our team because Dallas clearly didn't know how to work it. I don't believe that's the case anymore and instead, we're just fretting over players getting more than we think they should get.
