With Newman now signed and with a host of really solid corners in camp, does this open the door for the Cowboys to boot RW to the curb after this season. Pacman's deal is etched in incentives to keep him here a few years and Jenkins is a 1st rounder that should be here at least 5 years.

Of course Henry is the wild card but he still has led the team in ints the last few years and is still a very good football player. If we sign Hamlin to a deal and move him to his natural position of SS, can we then move Henry to FS and BOOT RW to the curve.

Sorry if this is another bash RW thread but the deal makes sense.

how does signing newman threaten RW position at all" ?

i gotta be honest.. i absolutely love this message board.. there are some fantastic fans on here.. some great knowledgable fans that truly bleed silver and blue.. and i find out the latest and best Cowboys news because of this site.. it's the best site on the internet if you're a Dallas Cowboys fan.. i used to post here all the time, but now i've become just a lurker.. but a lot of the guys and gals who've been around here for more than a year or two will remember me.. that being said, the reason i started posting less and less (besides the heartache of the Giants loss) was because it seems like EVERY single thread turns into a Roy bashing fest.. it's just ridiculous.. no matter what the topic is or what intention the original thread starter had or anything, at some point, it's gonna turn into bashing Roy.. yes, he is my favorite player so it's hard for me to read all the Roy bashing in the first place, but i used to be able to handle it.. but it's just gotten out of control, especially considering the fact that most of it is either untrue, unwarranted, taken out of context or overblown (thanks for keep fighting the good fight, Adam, Hostile, superpunk and a few others).. Roy's a great guy off the field, and a good player for us on the field.. he was elite at one point and i hope he gets back to that place for us, and i believe that Roy hopes for that too.. as it is, he is still an above average player for us that gets so much criticism from the fans and media alike that it's sickening.. the man wears the STAR and he is proud to wear the STAR.. he has given us some fantastic memories in the past.. so he had, by his standards, a down year, maybe a year and a half.. but he's still a heckuva player.. but some of you act like he's a bad person, a lazy person, and a horrible player.. which is so far from the truth it's laughable.. unfortunately, you guys (i know this isn't everyone, by the way) have ruined my love for posting on this site, at least for the time being.. i really look forward to the day, and i am very confident it will be early on this season, when Roy shuts you all up and i can come on here and enjoy posting and talking about my Boys again.. in the meantime, ill be lurking and shaking my head at most of the crap that you Roy bashers spew..

Maybe you should be more of a Cowboy fan and less of a RW fan.

and since roy williams *IS STILL A COWBOY* he would be, wouldn't he? he supports all cowboys and not adopts some pet-bash-boy to make ourselves feel good cause we have something to whine about.

the problem with the roy-whiners-bashers is that when the eventual day comes along he does in fact leave the team, even that won't be enough. they'll change focus and keep the whine alive on someone else.

it's as if they're watching "the weakest link" and think their opinion matters.

I don't think it has to do specifically with Newman and/or Roy Lee, but I think there's a legit question as to whether the "strong safety" position is being phased out of the game. I can see a day in the very near future where the Cowboys roster includes seven or eight corners and two or three safeties. NFL offenses are spreading out and putting multiple receivers on the field more and lining up and running the ball from "traditional" sets less. The emphasis in the defensive backfield seems to be shifting toward players who can cover and away from guys who make big hits. The question is, do you go for corners who can tackle or safeties with ball skills? I think as time goes on, the differences between corners and free safeties will blur and the Roy Williamses and Steve Atwaters(es?) of the world will disappear from the game. Jerry actually hinted just after the draft that the team now had a set of big corners and could/would have corners on the field in situations where in the past they would have used safeties.

Just my opinion.

It was rumored last year and his first year in the league he played safety. it is not far-fetched at all.

The problem with the idea, is that it requires several things to happen that do not make since.

#1.) Moving Ken Hamlin to SS. Everyone says Ken Hamlins natural position is SS, but if that is true, then why has he NEVER played SS in his life? Why was he a FS in college as well as being a FS his entire NFL career?

#2.) Move Anthony Henry to FS. You do NOT move good starting caliber CB's to safety. Top notch CB's are difficult to come by, and you need at a minimum 3 good ones, and ideally 4 good ones. No team in their right mind moves a starting caliber CB to safety, that is just absurd.

Now this is true, I could certainly see the day when the conventional 3-4 or 4-3 defense is no longer used. And teams maybe even go more towards 3-3-5 or 4-2-5 starting defense's where a Roy Willaims or Troy Paulamalu (sp?) are used more as a rover type of player, and the team have 3 CB's and 1 true safety on the field....

yea, that sounded like it was based in some logic. hard to find that in a roy williams thread these days. : )

I don't see your point. Newman, Pacman, and Henry play CB. RW plays strong safety. I simply do not see the connection you are trying to make.

This goes back to the thought that Ken Hamlin is a natural SS, which is FALSE, and that thought that Anthony Henry is going to be moved to FS, which is FALSE as well....

Basically people reaching and providing half truths in order to meet their agenda.....

At first this topic, I thought, was just going to be really annoying and I'd come in here and respond with "Newman being resigned as the teams top cornerback has nothing, at all, to do with rather Roy Williams remains on the team or not" and then simply walk away.

But now, having said that, I also want to point out that this topic actually had several responses that made me laugh so it was well worth it. :)

about all that's left with roy bashing threads is instant hijack. it's the only salvation some of us have anymore. :)

let me pose a question for the group. If Roy happens to get cut or is injured, who is our starting SS and what does that mean for the rest of the secondary?

I would assume that Ken Hamlin would move to SS and Watkins would start at FS.

Per this thread's premise...Terence Newman.
