Does the Mingo trade say anything about the development of Tolbert?

Something wrong with signing the top free agent at the position?
Since every playoff loss we've had recent was because we couldn't stop the run, there's monster of a problem there, yes.

Possibly, but this team can't possibly fill all their holes though 1 draft either. I could see DT, DE, S, RB and OL all as round 1 options as well as WR. I doubt they have Tee Higgins money available to them, but it would be very nice to actually see some needs addressed before we get to the draft for once.
I pray they go nowhere near that price tag, that's so much money tied up in that position

We now have huge holes due to poor drafting. You can only take so many Mazis and Trystens and Kelvins high in the draft before you start having huge holes in your roster.

Don't forget Nashon Wright!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Jerry must be a real simpleton concerning NFL football, he falls for the most inane, dumbest ruses.
when you have someone that'll tell you what you want to hear then hell yeah, Jerry is so gullable

And if you don't want to keep Parsons, sure, nothing wrong w/ it!!!

Are you really forgetting the upcoming Parsons contract?

Ooooo, IDK, I think there's a ton of truth to it. The trading thing definitely, but I think they're also bad at drafting. If you think about it, Lamb fell to us. Martin was the consolation prize, not who we wanted. Diggs fell to the 2nd because he's not great at coverage, and unfortunately that's starting to rear it's ugly head.

I do like this last draft, to be seen. However, our last good draft before this one was what, 2014? Yeah, we've had a few good players in there, but overall we keep losing due to the inability to get what we need to win playoff games.
Lamb may have fallen to us, but that's how the draft works and how many other GMs thought it was best to pass on him? I just never understand not crediting a team for who they take. Martin likely was the consolation prize, but it was also rumored that they had their eye on Aaron Donald...not a bad 1st choice. I think the other option that year was Shazier? If not for the injury it wouldnt have been a horrible pick either. Not sure how we cant say Diggs was an excellent 2nd round value. We can dissect every aspect of his game, but I guarantee half the league would be asking about him if he were to hit the trade block.

The 2023 draft looks like one we are just trying to salvage, and even that one Overshown alone may make it OK. Outside of that they really have done a very nice job the last several years in the draft. The big issue with this team to me has been their handling of 2nd contracts and a lack of desire to even participate in the 2nd/3rd waves of free agency. The draft itself is not a very high probability event overall.

The Lions got edge Z’adarius Smith from Cleveland for a 5th & 6th . Would rather Jerry pulled the trigger on that teamed him with Lawson Parsons Kneeland and gotten some help for the D then another in a collection of WR for a 4

Absolutely, but that's not what we were talking about. Are the Cowboys a good drafting team? It does not appear to be so. Yes, everyone misses, but you just can't miss 1st and 2nd round picks at the rate we are missing them at.

Diggs: Not at his salary.

No, they have not done a good job the last several years. Everyone keeps saying this, but it's just not true.

Think about the busts in rounds 1/2: Mazi, Kelvin, Trysten, LVE, Connor Williams. Sam Williams has been looking busty, and Schooner was just not needed, tho he has looked decent recently.

Agree with a lot of what you're saying, but it comes back to the idea that the draft is a lower probability event than people realize. There are different ways to look at what a successful pick is, but by most measure even the 1st round of the draft only sees about a 50% hit rate, and most players will not receive 2nd contracts form the team that drafted them. By the time you get to the 3rd round the average draft will only see 1-3 players make a pro bowl their entire career.

The issue I think the Cowboys have is they are over dependent upon hitting in the draft. If you come away from a draft with a quality starter an a couple rotational/depth guys you had a pretty average draft.

Tolbert was our 3rd round pick a few years ago. I'm assuming they feel he hasn't lived up to take over that #2 WR spot opposite of Lamb to help us in the passing game. Does the trade for Mingo say anything about Tolbert, or more about the depth we have in this WR room?? Please give your thoughts
Pretty sure the only thing the Mingo says is that we have a jackass for a GM

No, the Parsons contract actually helps them create cap space when they do the extension.
For 2025 it will save a few million. But for the following years its going to eat up $40+M per year. Its one of the things that will make some of the restructures more difficult. They can do it, but it gives you a short window to really compete without a rebuilding year or two, which is what I think the Eagles are doing.

Young talent that has potential for development. Potential that still has to prove itself, not only with a slot.
