In real life they wound not have the owner of Ford Lovers magazine investigating General Motors; however, the NFL appoints a die hard Giants fan to investigate Hardy. There are thousands of lawyers available that are not NFL fans. It would have been easy to get one of those to do the investigation.

Oh please. The idea that someone can't be both a fan of a team and also ethical and unbiased is just silly. Some people actually take their jobs really seriously and have moral convictions that trump their sports team affiliations.

Last season was the first time I remember Tony getting up very angry and in some refs faces.

Well, that's fairly obvious i'd assume. I think people thinking it's "utterly ridiculous" have little to no experience in a professional setting in one of the biggest industries in the world. Usually, the more money involved, the more "questionable" some decisions become.

It's also completely naive to believe these dudes don't have their circle of "friends" they associate with more than others, and are much more inckined to show preferential treatment, especially living in such close proximity and having as much contact as they do.

As far as them going "out of their way" to stick it to Dallas, i can't really say, but i'm of the notion that a little bias is not only fairly obvious in the Goodell/Mara/Kraft circle, but completely expected.

The point of conflict of interest is that individuals should not be put in the position to have to make the decision on if they are are or are not going to be biased. The NFL should use people that have no incentive to be biased.

It is the basis for the Voir Dire process in the legal system.

Sure, some individuals came overcome their natural bias; however, if you put 100 people in a position to have to overcome their natural bias, some of them are not going to succeed at overcoming it and somebody else gets shortchanged because of it.

I don't know why but Tony rarely ever gets that call. One game last season he got hit late...the ref was right there looking at the play....and Tony popped up and got all over that ref. The reason most companies don't hire people who work for competitors or close relatives of Competitors is to avoid any chance of conflict of interest. You're right that some people have the conviction to separate thier feelings for their team and be professional enough to help dish out punishments. But that won't make people second guess those decisions when they go in favor of his team.

If the NFL front office was smart they would hire an outside lawyer or someone with no affiliation to prevent any issues. That's why the referees are strictly vetted so see if they have any favorite teams to prevent them making biased calls.

What I will say on this is that the Dallas Football Cowboys generates more revenue for the NFL than any team and more than a few teams combined.
This is a business run by smart people who employ smarter people to run the business and business has been booming.

The Dallas Cowboys could secede and join another league like the CFL (ridiculous, I know, but I'm making a point) and their exposure and success would explode. No question. And us die hard's would still watch. I will. I don't care where my Cowboys play...
