Does the NFL really have it out for the 'Boys?

The reason most companies don't hire people who work for competitors or close relatives of Competitors is to avoid any chance of conflict of interest. You're right that some people have the conviction to separate thier feelings for their team and be professional enough to help dish out punishments. But that won't make people second guess those decisions when they go in favor of his team.

If the NFL front office was smart they would hire an outside lawyer or someone with no affiliation to prevent any issues. That's why the referees are strictly vetted so see if they have any favorite teams to prevent them making biased calls.

The person he is talking about is a fan of one team. If you are going to work for the NFL, it in no way precludes you from enjoying the game. Being a fan is not a conflict of interest

The point of conflict of interest is that individuals should not be put in the position to have to make the decision on if they are are or are not going to be biased. The NFL should use people that have no incentive to be biased.

It is the basis for the Voir Dire process in the legal system.

Sure, some individuals came overcome their natural bias; however, if you put 100 people in a position to have to overcome their natural bias, some of them are not going to succeed at overcoming it and somebody else gets shortchanged because of it.

Again. Highly regarded professional. Yet all you see is some biased person who will take actions that favor her team. Probably once again our board's sexist bent coming through.

I doubt the board is being sexist in that I bet 90% of the board doesn't know his/her sex.
It's all fan related pride and chivalry coming to the front.

Like my sexist insertion with "chivalry"? Used both in a positive and negative context nowadays: "Chivalry is Dead!".

No, I did t say he was biased that purposefully makes rules and changed for his team. What I said was MOST businesses would avoid the possibility of any thought of conflict of interest by not putting someone in that position.

And most businesses wouldn't call being a fan a conflict. She has no VESTED interest here.

People that think Kraft is out to get us dont realize that Kraft and Jones are very close
I've been saying that for years. I've also been saying how hilarious it is how each fanbase is so much like the other. For example, they each whine about the league office. Cowboys fans say the league office is full of Giants fans, Patriots fans say the league office is full of Jets fans.

I don't know what is funnier: How similar the 2 fanbases are, or how upset they each get when someone points that out.

Still, it's a business 101 best practice. Vested interest or not, it opens itself up to questions where it could be avoided.

B.S.

Highly qualified domestic violence expert. She works for the NFL. Pretty much anyone working for the league likes the game and has a favorite team.

By your logic the league should recruit someone who knows nothing about the NFL.
Yes. Let's eliminates qualified applicants because they like the game

If the the United States was setup like the NFL, all Senators and Congressmen would have been born and raised in NYC and there would be no representation from the other states.

Also, the President of the United States would be a dictator who has the power to arbitrarily put citizens on a ridiculous "list" which exempts them from doing what they love most in life. The length of time a person can be on this list is completely up to the dictator POTUS and can be for any length of time he/she wishes, including "indefinite". Also, the POTUS would be the only person who holds the power to add or remove people from said list.

Seriously. Do the Goodell's and Mara's of the NFL have any accountability at all for anything that they do? How is it OK that the NFL is run the way it is, with basically one person holding all this power?

The NFL is making a joke of themselves with Goodell as their leader.

What her sex have to do with it? Are women all Giants fans and Men are all Cowboys fans?

People have biases and sports is an area where biases are really strong. Bias can supersede conscious decisions. Even "highly regarded" professionals can have bias. The Supreme Court Justices are appointed by Presidents based on their biases.

NFL will review "Calvin Johnson rule" (A receiver must maintain possession of the football throughout the completion of the play.)
The Ricky Williams Rule (The league ruled in 2003 that long hair is an extension of the uniform, and thus it's OK to grab it to make a tackle. )
The Jimmy Graham Rule New Orleans (Jimmy Graham had been celebrating touchdowns for years by showing off his jumping and dunking ability, but the NFL outlawed it heading into the 2014)
NaVorro Bowman Rule (The NaVorro Bowman rule allows video reviews on plays with a recovery of a loose ball on the field, even though the play may have been whistled dead.)

Just a few example
