Early take on our draft is most of the guys we got are really good football players. The guys from rounds 1-3 will all either start or have big impact almost immediately. The Day 3 guys are ok on paper…
BUT I can’t say that this draft has immediately put this team in a better position to compete with the eagles and commanders. I Just can’t.
Don’t get me wrong, I like the guys we drafted in rounds 1-3.
- 1st rounder Tyler Booker is a plug and play beast at G, I wish they could’ve traded down a couple spots to pick up a 4th rounder, but still a solid pick. A high character guy who was a captain at Alabama.
- 2nd round DE Donovan Ezeiruaku is a very talented pass rusher. EZ is also a high character guy who was also a team captain at Boston College.
- 3rd round CB Shavon Revel is a first round talent recovering from a knee injury. Where have we heard that before? Hopefully he’s fully recovered by Sept.
No problem really with those guys as far as their talent. They should contribute immediately.
But if we are all being honest without the blue tinted fan glasses, the Cowboys STILL have glaring weaknesses at WR, RB and DT, three positions they badly needed an influx of top shelf talent.
So on Day 3 we acquired:
- 5th round RB Jaydon Blue and he’s fast but he’s also small and not more than 8-10 touches a game guy who has had fumble issues. Are we better at RB? Hmmm….
- 5th round traded up to get Florida LB Shemar James. A talented kid if not a little small. Seems a lot like last year’s 3rd round pick Marist Liafau.
- 6th round picked up T Ajani Cornelius from Oregon. Backup swing T was not on my bingo card as a pressing need.
- 7th round got UCLA DT Jay Toia, a big aggressive DT. But does this late sleeper suddenly make Mazi Smith a bad memory?
Like all drafts we need to wait on grading the 2025 Cowboys draft for at least a year; probably more like two years. Starting immediately, fans and the media will issue grades now but we really won’t know until pads are on and the real bullets fly in the regular season.
But if I am answering the question, “Did this draft get us closer to the eagles and commanders?” I would have to say no at this point.
TOO SOON FOR THIS BUT..
So I'm going to get this straight Bob you don't even wait till Monday and you had to bring up Washington and the Eagles, and this by the way some of your stuff is absolutely off base but that's ok I'm just going to say this wholeheartedly I disagree with everything you wrote up there .
but I'll start with this just as a caveat ,so that way you have a place to start and why I disagree before the fact that on paper,
I don't care who they are everyone's got to play all 17 games stay healthy so you're trying to act like we we can't pass them Washington to me was an outlier I think Chicago Bears are going to be the new Washington this year Washington's taking a step back they're not getting back to the nfc championship game you know why the Eagles and Washington got lucky last year the Cowboys had a record amount of injuries, that's why they didn't have to play a full Cowboys team and even then Washington didn't play us very well with our backups..
You know who stats those are you're trying to tell me that you think Jayden Blue is too small he's only good for 10 or 15 carries that's Gibbs they're the exact height, almost the exact weight ,and they have the exact same speed, now what are you going to tell me that's a lions though they have a better offense and they have a better offensive line, no, no you're trying to tell me that a guy who's almost the same size as Emmett Smith and Jamir Gibbs can't play in the NFL with 4.3 speed?
You're saying this because you want Jerry Jones the draft and the free agency to fail, so you can keep writing things that are anti Jerry and anti-cowboy that's okay,
you can keep it up, but I prefer to watch the games and then judge...
we have five months until game one and you are judging our roster right now.. I will never agree with this I don't even want to compare ourselves to other teams you literally get your schedule when the schedule's out you play it game by game and then see how it works out..
but the whole Jayden Blue thing thinking he's a gadget guy we've heard this before this is not Vaughn. this guy's 5 9 and nearly 200 pounds and he runs a 4 3 and he can play football.. I watched him I watched every game the only reason that he didn't have more stats cause he shared the room with about five other running backs because Sarkesian likes to spread the ball around that's why Isaiah Bond and Matthew Golden didn't have bigger numbers because they are in a spread offense they love the dump the ball down and dump it all over the place..
But I want you to look at those stats and you're going to try to tell me how you think there's a huge difference other than the fumbling problem that's why Jaden Blues slipped this guy is a real running back he's not a gadget guy are we going to give it to him more than 10 or 15 times a game probably not but I believe if they wanted to they could if they can figure out how to keep him from having fun won't problems if this offensive line is good and it seems like they worked a lot on the offensive line then that room alone William Sanders Mafa and then lightning in blue I think they can do pretty well...
I'm going to say this I'm not going to argue any further this is just my first part of my you're wrong I mean stating blue is only a 10 to 15 play guy because he's too small and he's the exact size as Gibbs is almost the same size as Emmett Smith..
so I hate to break it to you you're off base.
I'll say this again Washington was overrated last year they barely competed with our backups yes I know they went to the championship game and got their **** smoked and I mean embarrassed....
Did you not see a Washington team has struggled with our backups they barely beat us a second game they had to pull their starting quarterback and have Mariota play out of his mind to beat us but you act like there's some big gap between Dallas now the gap was our practice squad players against their starters I believe when we're healthy we're still close to that 12 win team that we were three years in a row and we will still compete if healthy help is what created the gap last year we had a record amount of injuries and not you're going to say it's an excuse no it's an actual fact san Francisco went through the same thing... So there you go i'm not even going to debate the rest of them because I don't think it's real you're not going to know until preseason and how this roster starts coming together on how any of these players are going to work in..
BEFORE the UDFAs, Before the added UFL players, before Any trades and with health our LB room is improved, OL improved, RB room better, pass rush is absolutely better, wr room same, safety same, DBs huge Queston mark, DL TBD, TE same,
But but just our coaching staff alone especially along the offense and defensive lines the new philosophy the vision they have for this team is going to improve this team I mean you're forgetting that it's not just about the players it's about the schemes it's about the game plans it's about finding a new identity and you know you say there's no good culture here it sounds like they're trying to build one but that alone is why I think we're going to have a better year if we're healthy if we're healthy...
But if Jamir Gibbs can do this below he's the same size and speed as Jayden blew and somehow you're dismissing Jayden Blew as some guy who can barely carry the ball 10 times maybe 15 although I would take that 15 carries a game this guy is Tony Pollard who everyone said should have started over old Zeke the Titans thought Tony Pollard was a starter and I know Tony slightly bigger but that don't matter they're the same type of player but really Jamir Gibbs is his comp they're almost an identical player doesn't mean they'll play exactly the same but if the Lions found a way to make him and their number one you never know what he's going to end up doing here..
