Does this SB change the occurence of the Rodgers vs Romo threads..

Ok, having not even read through one page of that old Romo vs. Rodgers debate, what has Romo done that makes him better? I love Romo, but I struggle to see anything tangible to cling to that tilts this argument in his favor.

I never said Romo was better, and I never said Rodgers was better. I think they are very similar QBs who are roughly equal in skill.

My whole point is that we wouldnt have won the SB this year with either, because our coaching suck, our o-line sucked and our defense sucked. Both are great, but nobody is great enough to save Wade Phillips from his own mind.

Trying to say that they are both great QBs and one just happens to have a Super Bowl title seems to me as a cop-out. We all know that's not how "rankings" work. You don't go through players and create a lateral ranking system, saying Brady is 1, Manning is 1, Rodgers is 1b, Romo is 1b2.

I'm sorry you see it that way. I see it as acknowledging that two players can be equal and one has better coaching, better support or both.

I also think Brady and Manning are interchangable as the best QB in football

I thought the only reason people compared the two was because Rodgers didn't get the same label as Tony for not being able to get the job done.

That undeniably always ticked me off to no end. Rodgers never was attacked for his losses and general inability to win in tight spots (prior to the last half of this season) like Romo has been.

I agree with 30 yard slant that Romo is unfairly attacked and targeted by many.

Your post about legacies and such pretty much sums this up for me. Rodgers is a great QB with a legacy. Romo, by your definition, is just great. There's a clear difference between two players when one has a legacy and the other does not IMO.

Well, before this years SB I honestly thought it was a toss up. Some days I'd like Rodgers, some day Romo was the guy. I'm sure Packers fans probably discussed the same thing at some point and some would prefer Romo, some Rodgers. After this past SB though, I think you have to give a slight nod to Rodgers. Regardless of the fact that it's a team game, they were both about neck and neck before, in my opinion. I think going through a SB and not committing huge mistakes and making the throws you have to should elevate you slightly above anyone else who was considered your equal.

But that doesn't change the fact that I'm happy with Romo. I'm not going to go on tirades just exclaiming Rodgers is the 2nd coming and Romo can't hold his jock strap, etc etc. I'm just trying to be honest about the comparison.

They both are good. Yes. Tony is capable of winning a lot of games in this league.

But Rodgers is more talented. Hes probably the most talented QB in the league.

Depends on what you mean by talent. If you simply mean the most physically gifted, it's Michael Vick and it isnt close. The guy could have gone pro in three of the four major sports, runs a sub-4.3 forty and can throw the ball as far as anyone. He'd be all-world if he was accurate.

If we're talking the best arm, you could easily argue several QBs are better than Rodgers. He certainly doesnt have the strongest arm.

Romo and Rodgers are more physically gifted than the average QB, but both have superiors in terms of actual passing ability. Rodgers had a great playoff run, he got hot when it counted. That doesnt mean any sane scout thinks he has a better arm than Peyton Manning.

Romo vs Rodgers threads?

Yes, No, Maybe, Who cares?

Just curious.

There were Romo vs Rodgers threads? More like "Does Romo belong in the same sentence as Rodgers, Rivers, etc" threads.

After this superbowl Rodgers will be moved up to god tier by everyone while i don't think Romo would even be a consensus 10 ten QB when it comes to the of majority fans and media which is sad.

I agree, but the argument people always hold on this board is who is better, because the average fan LOVES absolutes. My point is that it isnt that simple and both QBs are gifts to the game of football.

I think the one and only thing that differentiates the two QBs at this point is that IMO Rodgers makes better pre-snap reads than Romo. They're similarly mobile, have probably the two quickest releases in the league and are comparably accurate. I think Rodgers happens to the see the field better, putting defenses in a tighter bond than Romo does; I think that's why we see Rodgers dictate a defense more than Romo.

And that's really the only thing that bugs me. Rodgers has a ring, and nobody can ever take that away from him. People who think we'd have won more with Rodgers because he is just so much more gifted than Romo bug the hell out of me, and I see it ALL THE TIME in the media and on this board.

Nobody played a bigger role in bringing this franchise back from the ashes of Switzer, Gailey and Campo, save maybe Parcells who brought him here. Despite that, nobody gets less respect even amongst their own fans than Romo, and it's simply BS. The guy deserves better. He begged and pleaded to come back into a game with a broken collarbone in which a 1-5 team was being blown out. He busts his arse for this franchise, blames himself for loses and puts up numbers this franchise has never seen before, but he can't even spend three days in Mexico with his friends and a hot girl without being crucified.

I dunno, Rogers has what, 14 Passing TDS, 2 Rushing TDS in his 5 playoffs games vs only 3 interceptions??

Won a Superbowl with a crap running game.

He has the best QB rating of any player in NFL history in the playoffs where it counts most.

I do think Rogers and Romo differ where it counts most -- at least up to now.

I think Romo is plenty good enough to win the Superbowl, however, there is little doubt that Rogers is pretty much the prototype QB of this era of the NFL.

I think he is even more physically gifted as a QB than Vick overall.

Vick can run faster and throw longer. Thats it.

Rodgers is really good in every single category. Thats why imo he is the most talented.

No holes in his game.

He is the poster child of how the QB position should be played.

To be fair, Rodgers is working with maybe the two most fundamentally sound receivers in the game. Jennings and Driver make great route adjustments on the fly. I'll concede that at this point, though. However, I'd argue that even as shifty as Rodgers is, Romo is even harder to bring down and is slightly faster in the open field.

I've seen some on the Zone basically say the Packers have mediocre receivers... I don't believe it. I think Jennings is the best route runner in the NFL and I think Nelson is a hell of a #3 WR. Heck, he had 140 yards tonight. I didn't realize how big Nelson is -- 6-3, 217.

Peyton Manning and Tom Brady are statues, yet even after this game you could still count the number of GMs who would take Rodgers over them on one hand (assuming it is for one year and age isnt a factor).

Well-rounded doesnt gurantee that you are the best. Both Romo and Rodgers have very few holes, and both are slightly better in certain areas.

Rodgers and Romo both have trouble knowing when to just eat it and take the sack sometimes

So your argument essentially hinges on this: Anyone who doesn't agree with you is an idiot.

Your "supporting evidence" hinges on attacks. Why the insecurity? Why the inability to tell me why Romo is better without "because you are an idiot" in your retort?

Take away tonight's Super Bowl. Let's say the Pack missed the playoffs just like us. Why is Romo better?

Not everyone is an idiot. You arent an idiot. Many in the media and many casual fans are, though.

And again, I never, ever said Romo was better. All I said was the assertion that Rodgers is better simply because he has a ring or has better stats in a very small postseason sampling is ludicrous

If Staubach had played on those Steeler teams, he'd have more rings. If Romo played on this years Packers team, he'd have a ring. Romo has played the majority of his career under a coaching staff that didnt prepare their team for the postseason and a defense that was rarely as consistent as this year's Packers unit.

Like this absolute?

I love Romo, but I don't think there's a debate at this point.

Rodgers is the highest playoff rated QB of all time, no? Romo's career playoff rating is considerably worse than his regular-season showing.

I'll continue to stand by Romo through thick and thin. I think he's a wonderful talent and a guy who has a chance to scratch that "great" label. But he hasn't accomplished what Rodgers has.

Is he? Over Warner? I have to check your claim. Warner and Fitz had that unreal run to the Superbowl.

Do you disagree? I didnt think stating that Bradshaw played with a consistently better team or that Romo has played under a poor coaching staff was too much of a stretch.
