Does this stretch or good games make you consider Rico Dowdle a viable option to start 2025?

No but Jerry and his moron son sure will. Watch, they will pass on Jeanty and reach for another position in the first

Rico may have played his way out of Dallas. He is an UFA at the end of the season. His stat line puts him in line for a hefty raise next season. Incredibly, he has a real shot at 1k yards this year and is averaging 4.8 YPC.

My concern was the line more than Rico….we could have had Henry but would he be successful with this line earlier in the year? Our line play was bad, no matter the back. If that not improved consistently next year, may not matter who the back is. Question is can we get a back in round 3 that would work and take another position in 1 and 2, or get Jeanty if hes there and risk the bad line? Need to see what these linemen got the last few games. Maybe Rico get another couple 100yrd games
i love jeanty and he's pretty darn good. but this is a really deep class for rb. there will be good guys in round 2 and also into round 3.

There are only 9 RBs in the league with a higher ypc.

Running in a offense with a bad scheme and OL so banged up Matt Waletzko was the next man up last week.

Does that sound like a JAG to you?
I'm curious why we continue to knock the run scheme when its been very effective for several weeks now? Other than just running the ball more frequently which I agree they need to do what needs to change schematically?

Rico was never the problem. Contracts dictating starter status is the more direct correlation. Both the OL & RB group.

I don't care about lead back designations. I want multiple backs with good all around skill set that I can put in the game and expect production without compromising the playbook.

Rico isn't top tier, but he can play. I think his problem in the past has been staying healthy, not lack of ability.

It will take more than a few million per year to sign him.

I would bring Rico back if he's cheap enough but i'm also trying to draft his competition or sign another veteran, maybe kareem hunt (someone cheap) to compete.

Rico is a good #2 back and a good guy to have if your #1 is injured BUT that is all

Dowdle has shown me more in his last 3 games than he ever did in his career. Previously, and for most of this year, he basically got the yards blocked for him. He had some pop through the hole, but nothing more. Only now do I believe for the first time that he has value as an NFL RB. Suddenly, he is getting yards after contact, making moves, breaking tackles. It’s exciting to see.

I would love to have him as the veteran RB and eventual #2 on the team next year. However….
  1. We need a real playmaker at RB, someone who can take it to the house when blocking springs him, someone whom the defense must respect on playaction and as a receiver. That will open up the field for everyone else.
  2. I want Rico as the veteran #2 who gives you something reliable, a veteran to start and then give way to the rookie with more juice when the time comes. I don’t want him as the starter next year.
