Does this stretch or good games make you consider Rico Dowdle a viable option to start 2025?

I’d bet he walks in free agency. At this pace he is going to get starter money. The Cowboys seem unlikely to pay him starter money….maybe they tag him for a year?

You cannot tag Dowdle it would be insane to pay him that much . I say approach his agent negotiate in good faith hopefully get him for a fair price and draft a compliment back go go with him and have a nice two headed rushing attack .

Serviceable + RB. Not particularly gifted, but can start and produce when given snaps.

He's a good RB2 for most clubs, but not dynamic.

Why would it be insane? Tag was just under $12m last year. I’d assume you’re probably tagging him for $12-13m for a year or giving him a 3 year deal in the $8-10m range per year.

Granted it’s anyone’s guess what the rb market actually looks like this offseason is there any reason to believe if he keeps his current pace Dowdle won’t be able to be in the Pollard/Mixon/Connor type of contract range? This is a guy who is in his mid 20s and hasn’t made great money by NFL standards so I would assume he’s not looking to give home town discounts. He’s probably the best RB in free agency this year, no?

I just can’t wrap my head around tagging Dowdle at 12 mill . It’s double what I would offer . Like I said if you can retain him and draft a complimentary back that’s a nice two headed attack . Right now Elliott is his back up . Enough said .

To compare Aaron Jones signed with Minnesota at 7 million . He’s been wrecking Dallas since he joined the league . Jerry couldn’t be bothered talking to his agent last off season .

i love jeanty and he's pretty darn good. but this is a really deep class for rb. there will be good guys in round 2 and also into round 3.
That’s what I’m thinking……IF we get the line to -reform (with better coaching and scheme too) a 3rd round back plus dowel could work and out first pick on that stud DT or something. I just don’t want to use a first on a RB if the line and scheme is questionable….might end up a waste. We just got a lot of holes, need to use those first 3 picks right. I won’t really complain if it’s Jeanty though. Maybe he can come in and uplift the line like Emmitt did, turned some JAGs into pro bowlers.

I think Dowdle is getting $8 million apy tops so doesn’t make sense to tag him for $12 million.

Rico has pretty much assured himself of being back next season. He’s developed into a better than average back, however we need a big play threat, not only as a runner but as a receiver. A game changer. Easier said than done especially when we don’t want to spend a lot of money in free agency. We’ll see what’s available during the offseason and in the draft.
Better than average? He is very much average.

We have huge holes at virtually every position on the roster and this is the hill to die on? Besides Zeke's first year I would take him over Elliot even in his prime. You can't have all stars at every position.

We can, and should, absolutely upgrade the RB position. The best teams in the league have quality skill poistion players, not just JAGs. Rico is a JAG.

Our entire skill positions are littered with JAGs. Only Lamb stands out as a top talent. Ferguson is probably a level above JAG. Solid. Not a top player at the position. Turpin is a wild card with difference making speed but not a seasoned receiver.

But the QBs, the RBs, the rest of the TEs and WRs, all JAGs.

The worst part? The front office doesn't know this. They think they're stacked.

He’s rushed for 243 yards the past 2 games. That’s better than average. Good chance he’ll end up having a 1000 yard season. The more carries he’s gotten the better he’s gotten. However, we need a game changer as our lead back who has big play potential and can give us more as a receiver.

What do you guys think
To start? That would be a HARD NO! The Boys need a back that has a lot more speed and doesn't dance around when trying to hit a hole. Too many times Rico was dancing around, when he should have hit the first little gap he saw. He would be a better number 2 guy than the one we have in Zek. The Cowboys have to find themselves a real NUMBER 1 back in the 2025 draft who can help whoever is the QB on this team.
