Does Tony pick his new team and play for vet minimum?

Jerry might look like an idiot, but he is not. I don't think he sends him To a SB contender for nothing. We are trying to win SB's, why help someone else do it. Imagine if he trades or lets him walk to Denver or Houston and they beat us next year. He will never live that down. He'll talk him into retiring a Cowboy.

Some of you guys just don't live outside the Madden world. A SB contender probably doesn't need Romo. Yes, you could say Houston does but they purchased their QB of the future last year and he's on the books for plenty. Yes, KC might make some sense but, would Romo go there for less than market rate if he's supposed to take them to a SB...doubt it! Romo is also not going to just lower his current QB contract to be
a backup on the bench. That will never happen and I don't think Jerry would ask him to do that after all Tony has meant to the Cowboys. I still think the most likely avenue is Jerry will release him to find his new team as a June 1st cut.

Some people just don't get the cap. Romo doesn't have to lower his current contract as the new team would only absorb a $14 mill cap hit which is very average for an NFL starting QB. If I'm the Cowboys I play hard ball, not going to let him walk for nothing. If he has a couple of preferences I would work with each and try to get a day two pick for him. Otherwise he will remain the backup in Dalls or retire.

Just a guess on my part but, if Jerry did try to hold onto Tony and he was only offered the chance to be a backup, I think he would retire.
He's just to much of a competitor to just sit on the bench.

You're just playing Madden. No team is going to offer picks if they know Romo is going to be released for free. Even if they did offer
picks, Romo would have to okay the deal or just retire. If he does retire, all his 19.6mil cap hit comes on the books for this year.

So are we assuming we trade him?

If so..only a team with cap space is even possible.

If we have to take the contract hit..

I say we keep him another year and let him backup.

I don't see the team taking a big hit on this.

If he doesn't want to play here..Let him not report to camp or retire.
No guaranteed money due to Tony.
We have a big cap hit either way with the only real difference being whether they want to split it over two years (cut after June 1) or take it right away.
That hit still applies whether we cut him or trade him.

No I'm not. That's called managing assests. KC, Denver, Houston want to be one and done in the playoffs, no problem stay with your status quo or sign Ryan Fitzpatrick. Want a shot at a title trade for Romo. Pretty simple to me because I can make enough cap room to hold on to him.

You can't hold onto Romo unless Romo wants to stay. He's not going to want to stay for 14mil and carry a clipboard. Not ever.

Whatever his next contract pays him won't be based on his talent, it will be based solely on whether or not he can stay healthy.

Emmanuel Sanders is already recruiting him. Kinda letting it be known to Elway that the players want Romo.

Ok retire.
It's really that simple. Dallas holds all the cards on this, he is a player under contract and they can afford him. So Tony and his team should sit down with Jerry find two or three teams he wants to go to and let Jerry negotiate a deal.

Absolutely...Now Jerry has to decide if he wants all that 19.6mil cap charge to hit this year's cap or not.
If he makes Tony a June 1st cut, he gets to defer some to 2018...if not he has to take it all this year which
means we won't be shopping too much in FA this year. We'd be lucky to sign back some of our FA.

No he can still create 25mill pretty easily.

Tony can decide what he wants to do. Retire, back up or be traded..anything else and Jerry is an idiot on this one.

You and I both know that Jerry can play the idiot anytime but, he is not known for dumping on his star players. Tony is one of his boys
and I don't think he would ever do him wrong...Just my take!

Get er done.

I'd take a second rounder for him and get him out of the NFC.

How would he be doing him wrong? Romo still gets what he wants in a trade.

A well-run organisation trade's Romo for the absolute most in return...this is a business, did Romo refund the 40 or so million he's been paid the last 2 years to sit on the sideline injured...NO! Get the best value for him...

Please don't bring logic into this situation. Romo is a god unlike any man we have ever seen in the NFL. We should bend over backwards for him and according to some, pick up a lot of his salary to go play wherever he wants. So not only does he hold us hostage while on the roster, he can hold us hostage when he leaves.
