Does Tony Romo belong in the HOF over Eli Manning?

To me the HOF is for the elite players of their era
Not for their team but them
Eli was not an elite QB and neither was Romo
They were both good but neither was elite
The SB is not won by a player but a team
There have been some mediocre QB’s win a SB and some very elite who have not
That’s because it’s a team that wins the SB

Dude was the proverbial bus driver, and really not all that great given the era he played in.

His 2011 playoff run is often referred to as one of the gold standards for great QB play. In 4 games he averaged 304 yards passing and had 9 TDs to 1 interception. That regular season he was about 70 yards off from being the 4th QB ever with 5000 yards passing.

You could make a case for a lot of Eli’s deficiencies, but he was no bus driver. For better or worse that offense went through his arm

The offense may have went through his arm, but it was the defenses that got them the Championships.

The Manning’s represent everything that’s great about the NFL beginning with Archie then Peyton and Eli . And looks like Arch is going to continue tradition.

With so much negative culture of todays athlete and personal conduct issues , etc the Manning’s represent a breath of fresh air.

No telling what they have contributed to the national exposure and financial stability of the shield which is so coveted and protected by the league.

I’m not sure how we can even measure it. But I’d argue the brothers are possibly the biggest story of this era from a positive note for the league up there with Brady , Bill and the Patriots .

Stat base......probably but HOFer's QB position is winning Super Bowls. Eli has two.......deserve or not.

Manning will get in, Romo will not.

Eli will get in due to having played so long, mediocre as he was. The guy has big cumulative stats. Lots of yards, TDs and a million interceptions...lol

And then, although he was one and done in the playoffs more than any other QB in history, he has those two huge Super Bowl wins.
He's going to get in even though he was the very definition of mediocre.

Tony Romo was a WAY better QB than Eli. Another full tier ahead of him.

Having said that, Romo needed to play a few more years behind that great line, and see some playoff success while piling up more stats, before he would be considered for the HOF.

Romo might get in someday as a TV color guy, but as a player? That’s not going to happen. He has too much of a reputation as a guy who choked and always fell short.

A guy named Manning won Super Bowls in New York. So he’ll get in

Neither belongs in.
This is the correct answer. But Eli will get in for beating tom brady in the sb twice. While also ruining a perfect season from one of the best teams ive ever witnessed.

Ive now come to the realization we had to lose that game in 07 to preserve the dolphins record of a perfect season. If we go to the sb that year the patriots are winning the sb and having a perfect season.

Or maybe Favre can beat him; Favre-Brady would have been the best SB matchup maybe ever. Two guys widely considered top 10 alltime QBs. Has that ever happened? Elway-Favre, Montana-Marino? GB was awesome that year and only lost in overtime in the NFCCG

Yep, as so-so as his career playoff stats were (they were not as good as Romo's) he had a nice Flacco-like run that one year in 2011.
It's a great argument for longevity. Knock on the door often enough and you may end up getting hot at the right time for once.

……no surprise there. He got to play against our past crappy defenses twice a year. That’s a lot of garbage stats:D
Plus, he threw for a lot of yards because he played so many seasons.
His career QB rating is pretty bad and the guy led the league more than once in interceptions.

Longevity pays off. That was his best quality. He never missed games.

Tony was exciting to watch & I always felt we had a chance of winning the game with him, but I never saw him in the HOF tier of QBs.

NY seemed more interested in using a good defense to win. Eli had his good games, but aside from a few clutch plays he wasn't elite.

Eli absolutely should get in as a player. Romo will get in as a Announcer...

I guess it all depends on how the HOF voters view the 2 Eli teams that beat the 2 Brady/Belicheck teams.

Other than those 2 yrs he was average to below and his longevity stats and not missing games streak which further pads his stats are quite misleading. From 2012 - 2019 his overall performance was poor if you actually watched him play. Career .500 w/l record as a starter for that many games started further supports my opinion of him not being a difference maker. Zero all pro teams as well.

I think Romo is a Hall of Very Good guy. The watered down Kurt Warner rags to riches story without the championships.

I'm a Romo fan but overall body of work does not equal out to best at his position of all time during his era.

That's not to say that a huge number of players who were less at their positions than Romo was at his are not being voted in, I just have a little higher standard for HOF status than some of the voters nowadays.
