I would rather listen to Dolly than a rapper. I remember several years ago on Thanksgiving in Detroit they had a local rapper perform the halftime show. He was strutting around, grabbing his crotch every minute. It was dreadful!

My aunt lives near Gatlinburg and is friends with her. I’ve met her a few times over the years, she even personally guided us around DollyWood for a bit, think it was in 1988 or so. She is really nice and is a peoples person. I wanted to tell her my islands in the stream joke but my mom was watching me closely :muttley:

Fun fact.

Most will think Whitney Houston when they hear "I will always love you" but that song was written by Dolly Parton.
Search YT and you can find an old video of her singing her version.

Another fun fact.

She earned 10 million dollars from Houston's version.

If Jerry was going to go old school, I would have rather seen a collection of older singers or even bands rather than featuring just one.

That way at least you get a few chances at an artist you like and with only one song each (and maybe a group collaboration at the end) you would be likely to get their most well-liked songs.
Not sure this is entirely Jerry's choice. The network might have a say.

Also, if you brought in a collection of singers & bands you would have to pay each one a full appearance amount, and the logistics of featuring each would be more difficult

I remember Big Sean... I like him.

I don't think his choice of songs were good performance choices.

They said it when Whitney first released that it was a Dolly Parton song.

Dolly made crazy money over it and didn't have to hum a note.

I prefer Whitney's version.

I’m a product of the 70s and about 80% of my playlist consists of classic 70s rock. I’ve never been into rap, and couldn’t even tell you the names of rappers.
I like classic 80s rock, but couldn't tell you the names of hardly any of them. lol

The only thing I hate worse than rap is heavy metal. I’ll take Dolly singing 9 to 5 and Jolene, over a bunch of metal heads any day!
good thing theres so many genres. I hate Rap as well Im mostly a classic rock guy but i do love me some heavy metal at times. I can even listen to Dolly although Im not much of a country guy. I bet you like 'coat of many colors"
