Not kidding even a little.
We have 2 DE's who we drafted who are currently suspended for drug violations. 1 has zero career sacks and is one puff away from a year long suspension. The other doesn't wake up until week 8 each season and is coming off a back surgery.

Mario Williams would have been our best pass rusher.

True, but the cost is too much, considering in hot and cold motor.

It worked out well for them. But they paid for it. Ware was solid, but any DE/OLB would benefit having Miller on the other side. Regardless of Denver's success, you don't buy championships.

Well for starters, you can't say regardless of Denver, you don't buy championships. Denver just proved you can if you do it right.

But forget all of that. There is a happy medium between trying to just snap up a ton of high priced free agents and winning something and just not even considering any higher priced free agent and rifling through the bargain bin. I tend to think the Cowboys, right now, have taken fiscal responsibility and frugality in free agency farther than they probably need to.

Von Miller had 18.5 sacks the year the Broncos defense was putrid.

But I guess he is the reason the turned into such a dominating defense.

You're missing the point. Their defense was conceivably a few pieces away. With a dominant offense in place.

That's when you can splurge. That's not us (understatement).

No, Williams is too inconsistent. Has been his whole career, which is why he is on his 3rd team.

He's not actually that inconsistent. He had a bad year last year but prior to that, 3 straight years of double digit sacks. He did quit last year on the Bills and have a bad season but he wasn't the only one. That entire team kind of bailed on the season, especially the defense. He signed a deal that basically allows Miami to cut him after this season for little pain at all.

And again here's the reality. Other than possibly Lawrence, who is likely out for four games, there isn't another player on this roster that's even close to him in terms of talent at DE. Note, I am not saying he's the guy from 7 years go. But he's better than just about every other DE we have on this roster other than a guy who might be suspended for drugs and is coming off back surgery.

Anyone seriously believing that a guy like James Jones or Adrian Clayborn or whatever other bargain bin DEs the Cowboys looked at improve this team more than Williams would have is really drinking the front office kool aid IMO.

You don't buy championships. But you also don't cheap your way into championships.
And how do we know if Demarcus Lawrence had the sacks in the second half of the season last year because he was playing opposite of Greg Hardy. He is far from a sure thing.....he and Gregory have spent most of their careers injured so far.

You don't buy championships but out defense this year would be much better if we had signed Mario Williams and Eric Weddle.

I like both players, but Williams, while talented, demands big money and runs too hot and cold for my taste.. Weddle is the guy I really wanted. Was surprised he chose Baltimore of over Dallas.

Williams didn't demand big money. 2 year deal. $8.5MM in guaranteed money. $6.5MM cap hit this year and then the Dolphins can cut him next year if they want with only $2MM in dead money.

At that price, he was a better option than some of the scrap heap DEs we've been coveting.
