They reported on a TV station here in Miami WSVN, that the Cowboys have alredy contacted Zach Thomas.

Hopefully they contacted him if he thought Jason Taylor might be interested in being a Cowboy.....

I don't buy for one minute that there is any real shot of Thomas playing in Dallas next year.

I agree - ZERO Chance and if it does it's on the Poodles head! And we are screwed foreward....

I wish Jerra Jones' son would keep Jerra away from all personnel moves/decisions.
Man boobs might be thinking that he can outwit jerra. And I think he is right.

Zach was just on the radio along with Rosenhaus and said Dallas, san diego, indy, New england are his top four choices. No particular order.

Those are not the only choices that Dallas can choose to take.

Zach Thomas does not provide invaluable experience and does not command respect if he is not able to play even if it were limited to the nickel and pass defense packages. You think he will be able to do at least that part. I don't. I think he is done because concussions are a tough thing to get over.

I hope for someone LIKE Zach Thomas more than Zach Thomas specifically. He's the kind of player that can grow your young squad up in a hurry, just by his example. Good article.

IF JJ signs this old, broken necked, undersized 4-3 LB - I will be stunned and apalled.

You would think coming from a division rival you'd be more appreciative of his talent and reputation.

Just talk, but I like that he's at least interested. If he checks out medically, it could be a great signing.

Or at all ever again.
Look, the guy is playing. He's already gotten clearance from the doctors. I just listened to the guy for 15 minutes being interviewed. Thomas is hellbent on playing and is going to walk away on his terms. Ohh one more tidbit I got from the interview, Thomas said he knew a while back he'd probably get released so he's already broken down film of 9 teams all 16 games that played the dolphins type of defense. The man is a film junkie who prides himself on preperation. Whether he plays for us or not, it would be foolish of us not to take a look. If the pats signed him it would be looked at as pure genius. This team needs some veteran leadership and he's hungry.

I looked something up on NFL.com out of curiosity

In 5 games, Zach Thomas had more tackles than Akin Ayodele did for the season.

Hail yes.

Notice how two of his top choices play Wade's defense: Here (obviously) and San Diego. He can play in this scheme.

I do think, though, that he's too small for Belichick. So that leaves probably Indy as our biggest competitor. Their D is good enough that they probably don't need a new MLB... Though when younger, he'd have been good in that scheme.

I don't get all the conflict over Thomas. It's not like he'd get a mega-deal anyway. He'll get a modest contract so that the team can gain his leadership and experience, and he can keep playing the game he loves. Signing him would be a true win-win.

Really, what's the downside? At worst he'd be a backup and a great mentor. Maybe Bradie can learn from him to actually be a leader instead of just telling everybody he's one.

That is all fine and dandy but he has to get medical clearance first.

per Glazer on FoxSports.

I'd sure like to have a guy that competent in coverage, smart, and fiery on this team in a well-defined role.

Why? He's old and well past his prime. I knew soon as I heard he was released I could come here and read the "How about signing Zach Thomas" posts.

I've yet to understand the desire to sign such guys. :banghead:

Read on, good sir. This is exactly the kind of unheralded, inexpensive signing that a team like Dallas needs, and a team like New England has been making for years. We've got more than enough players "in their prime".

I agree with that. I have no problem with thomas coming here. Belichick, parcells and most defensive coaches love having an experienced guy at linebacker. This would give us that guy. He wouldnt get a big deal and if something happened to him ayodele, burnett and carpenter are still here.

He could be a really good influence on carpenter, if that is something carpenter is lacking.

I know he definitely could bring a slight humbleness to this roster that this team needs. Hearing hatcher, bowen and gurode sayon the radio the week of the eagles game that the only teams they are concerned about were new england and maybe green bay was disturbing to say the least, then crayton guaranteeing a win over washington or whoever else came to Dallas in the divisional round.......

I think at the least thomas could maybe humble those guys by showing the hard work and dedication that is still being put forward even though he has not played in the big game yet.

And this team was light on linebackers. For a 3-4 team during the season we could have used one more.
