I do think, though, that he's too small for Belichick. So that leaves probably Indy as our biggest competitor. Their D is good enough that they probably don't need a new MLB... Though when younger, he'd have been good in that scheme.
I don't get all the conflict over Thomas. It's not like he'd get a mega-deal anyway. He'll get a modest contract so that the team can gain his leadership and experience, and he can keep playing the game he loves. Signing him would be a true win-win.
Really, what's the downside? At worst he'd be a backup and a great mentor. Maybe Bradie can learn from him to actually be a leader instead of just telling everybody he's one.
