Don't be surprised if the Cowboys trade up

Ask Jerry Jones... He is the one who trades his pick around 80% of the time.

I prefer we stay put and trade nothing.

However, this is Jerry Jones we are talking about, even with S. Jones in his ear, you just never really know at this point.

If a trade is to be made, I would like the trade down to add picks but as others have mentioned, you have to a partner.

If the Cowboys do indeed trade up, the range would probably be in the early twenties but I personally would not like to give up picks with all our needs.

To me trading down is far better than trading up.

I agree, but that isn't really the purpose of the thread. If everyone is wanting to trade down, you aren't going to get any value or decent offers, which makes trading down in this draft the most unlikely scenario.

Well they didn't get full value with the Frederick trade either so I understand what you're saying, but that turned out OK.

In a little more than 24hours we'll know how this one spins out.

And target who?

Today on The Ticket, it was said that Dallas has an agreement in place to move up if Melvin Gordon (RB Wisc.) fell. I can't remember who the trading partner was though. It was stated that we'd give up our 1st, 3rd, and next years 4th to move up to get Gordon.

I think they get even less value this time around. Broaddus claimed an NFL GM told him that he only saw 4 players that looked like first rounders to me. Everyone will be looking to bail, especially since most of the 1st round talents have character concerns.

That was Miami.

If Gordon fell to Miami?

In what world are Gurley and Gordon going to be gone by pick 13?

There's nothing inherently wrong with trading up. It's just that teams typically overpay right now for the privilege of doing so based off of historic value. I think some of that might change this year, though, as there really aren't that many guys worth giving up significant value to go get. You can sit pat and a decent option is going to come to you. But, for the right deal, a trade up can be a big winner if you hit on the pick in a big way.

I have been thinking for the past week that if they are really into Gordon as much as was being reported that we might as well kiss our 3rd round and possibly 5th round picks goodbye.

While I don't think that Gordon will go as high as Miami it is possible. I actually think one of the Jets and Giants will draft Gurley.

Gordon sounds like a great first-round pick at 27. However, because so many experts think he will be our guy, I looked around at 6 or 7 top 50/100 lists and found only one had him as low as 23, and the rest were around 12-16. I don't like the idea of moving way up to get him, but I do like the idea of having a great young running back to go with our great young OL. In the end, I think if he (or Gurley) doesn't take a big drop, we would probably be better off trying to find a RB in a later round, or stand pat, because we need to improve our D badly. But, Casserly said Gordon would be a 1500 yard back with the Cowboys, so there's that....

To move up to Miami's pick at 14, only giving up our third and next year's 4th would indeed be pretty cheap.

Hey, if they like Gordon or Gurley that much and want to move up and take the guy, I will be fine with it. The team has been doing a fantastic job of evaluating talent and if they think either are worth their 3rd this year, then I'm glad they think they're worth it.

Gordon was made for this system and it sure would be fun to watch what he does to defenses.

I'd much rather them target a difference maker than to sit at 27 and take whatever leftovers are there. Jimmy Johnson's early 90's Cowboys would target players they liked and they made it happen a lot of the time.

I say go for it.

Thats a hefty price to pay and a long way to move up if its Miami. It may be decent value by the chart, but its still a lot. If they are trading up that high and giving that many picks up, I have a hard time believing its for Gordon and not Gurley.

They aren't really giving up a lot. They are just swapping firsts, giving up a 3rd this year and a 4th next year. That is great to move up 13 spots. I don't believe that is actually going to happen though. Just a weird rumor on the Ticket.

I have it all figured out.
The Cowboys might move up.
Or move down.

Or likely pick at 27.
