I don't know if this has already been posted but wanted to point out that Dorance Armstrong's performance in the first 2 games has made me very happy that Randy Gregory changed his mind and bolted for Denver.

D. Armstrong stats: 6 total tackles; 3 solo tackles; 2 sacks

R. Gregory stats: 4 total tackles; 2 solo tackles; 1 sack
1 bonehead penalty resulting in a 1st down for the opposing offense

And I certainly don't miss the stupid penalties by Gregory resulting in key 1st downs for the opposing team. I know the above stats are a small sample size but Armstrong already making a strong early impression.

If only the Cowboys would have used the money saved to sign Von Miller!!!
Go Cowboys!!!

Gregory had a strip sack against the Texans when he took on a right tackle and raced around him to hit the quarterback with no one else applying pressure. Armstrong's sacks came when he got a one-on-one against a tight end and cleaned up when Parsons flushed the QB outside and into Armstrong's pressure.

Other than the boneheaded penalty, I'm not sure we've earned bragging rights yet.

No one is game planning for Randy Gregory.
He is not that dude.
He has 17.5 sacks in 52 games or essentially 1 every 3 games he plays.
He is a superb Nickel pass rusher that falls a bit as a straight up starting edge.
He gets up field too far and fails to hold the edge.
He is easily baited on hard counts.
Watch him this week versus the 49ers
Not every team is starting Geno Smith or whoever Houston starts on their tankathon.

But the biggest issue is he 30 years old and makes 12-14M a year.
I would prefer ALL of the current DAL DE and the deals they are on to Randy. Dorance, DLaw, Micah, Sam, Fowler

Dorance is a solid all-around player who has over 30 tackles each of the last two years.
He can slide inside and play 3T on pass rush downs.
But mostly he is 25 and half thew cost of Randy.
Yeah, teams were having to game plan him last year, when healthy!

The thing about releasing a player...is when someone signs said player the team that released him, gets that money back. So if someone signs DLaw, after we release him, for 10 million then we get 10 million back on our books.
Lol, no. That's not how it works.

Randy Gregory is cancer for a team. They were fortunate his true integrity kicked in.
Totally agree, I don't miss him at all, and I miss his UNGRATEFUL attitude even less.

No, no they weren't.

Randy was NEVER a top 3 player on the defense. Ever.
He had 6 sacks last year and was PFF's 56th rated Edge; Dorance was 62nd FWIW.

And teams were far more concerned with Micah(13 sacks, 20 TFL), Trevon Diggs(11 INT) and Jayron Kearse(101 tackles).
Gregory had less tackles, tackles for loss and passes defensed than DLAW who only played 7 games.

Sacks are not at all the be all end all of stats but that's ALL Randy gives you. Sacks and pressures.
Micah had 20 tackles for loss last year and 13 sacks. 20 tackles for loss is LOL.
Randy had 4. Same amount as Keanu Neal.

He is still a plus edge rusher but one who is best in a rotation. His play is very predictable as he rushes upfield hard every snap with few counters or variety.

People who decried his loss were basing it largely on emotion. After 2 weeks it's clear the team does not miss his play at all.
In fact the one way you can attack this Dallas defense is repeated, power run and ball control. Areas where Randy is useless to assist in defending.
His role has basically been filled by Dante Fowler who's had a sack, pass defensed and a forced fumble already.

actually, they offered von Gregorys deal he declined, SO Pulease

i liked everything up until the end where you believe Miller is worth 16-20mil, nope..you just said it the depth opposite of Parsons ie Tank, Armstrong, fowler and Sam are more than enough. no need to pay an older vert that type of money. sorry NOPE

Yup. Miller is a better player than Gregory but has even less chance of being healthy and active come the playoffs.
Dallas FO bats .500 or so and this DE situation they got lucky on when RG walked away after Denver overpaid to steal him.

They are gonna bleed a little bit for the WR and OL decisions (even if better for it in the long run) but they feel nothing but joy for going with this DE group. It is a deep, cheap, young group.
Arguably best in the league.
And that RG money needs to be banked to pay Micah. Cause he's gonna be the highest paid defender in football soon enough.

Randy has 4 tackles already. That is incredible production for him. He is definitely on pace for career highs.

NOT LUCK

that clause stayed

if they wanted him bad enough, they would have never put it in there or agreed to remove it..it was great strategy he accepted it and we were protected or he gets upset and leaves,

nothing lucky about iot..give it a break already.the FO was smart.. the entire offseason was ridiculed and well turns out most of the moves were very good..

VERY lucky.
If he accepted the clause we'd still be paying 12-14M a year for a guy that has never sniffed a Pro Bowl type season.
Dallas flawed sense of loyalty was the only reason the offer ever got that high.
Randy is an 8M a type player.

Go look at his career and tell me ANY year of his where he provided 10M worth of impact?

I don't think the Broncos are bummed about their Gregory contract at all. He's been good.

Bitter ex-girlfriend syndrome. They need this to be true. "Armstrong is better than you EVER were, Randy. By the way, check out my revenge bod." Lol.

100% this.

You have obviously been watching higher than Randy.
You have zero data to back up anything you are saying.
Just goofy takes and vibes.

Having to resort to "well teams game-planned against him" with zero proof of that is how you know you had zero argument to even start with.

Randy had a good second half versus the Texans.
He didn't do much at all before then.
He only played 47% of the defensive snaps week 1.

It has been 2 games so they are fine of course, but talk to us this off-season when they look at the salary cap for next year.

Something else I didn't notice until I recently looked, their contracts.

Forget their entire contract, just go by the first 3 years since they can both be released after that. For the first 3 years Miller averages 14M a year cap hit, Gregory 12M a year. So yeah, if he was going to pay Randy, paying Von wouldn't have been much of a leap.
