Free is playing decent he did give up the two strips on Prescott, Dunlap beat him and Peppers beat him. He's also the reason Tony got hurt in Seattle when Avril beat him and forced Tony to run. Free is what he is at this point in his career.
I remember it was Escobar that let Avril run around him like a turnstile, not Free. Maybe Escobar was supposed to be helping Free but he simply flailed at Avril when he went by.

the play vs PHI was 6 vs 5.......but Free has gotten Romo crunched plenty of times.....it was his guy vs SEA this year
actually romo had scrambled out of the pocket and shouldve either thrown the ball or away or taken off. That was all on Romo. thats whatalot of people in the media are talking bout with this team being better with Dak. Because he's going to take off on that play instead of exposing himself to a hit like romo did on that play.

Free is not the best...but our other olineman have been quoted as saying he's the leader of their group. If he's leading the way for all pros as far as work ethic and professionalism I'll take that as my fourth or fifth lineman.
I agree, if he's the leader of the group and this group is the best in the league then don't mess with what isn't broken. I've been hard on Free at times but hearing he's the leader of the oline then he is contributing to this team with his play and with his leadership. One magical thing about this team that I have observed is there isn't too many knuckleheads on the team. Our player leadership is strong with this team. That's just as valuable as talent IMO. I said this in another thread, if the only player distraction is Dez Bryant not going to meetings on time then we are doing great with player behavior on and off the field. Everyone knows Dez will bring it on gameday and he encourages his teammates. If Free is a leader and a moral compass for the oline then he deserves whatever he gets. We've lacked player/leaders in the past and I believe it shows on the field. These players are bonded to each other and want each other to succeed. If Free sets that tone for the oline then I'm okay with a bad play here and there.

One thing I want to add- I've seen Dak take a couple hits already this season that I'm not convinced Romo would have gotten right back up from. We can blame Free all we want, but even as a Romo fan, I have to admit Tony's broken (physically).

Pretty tough to blame Free for that one, yeah.

Generally speaking, the coaches like Doug Free a lot better than the fans do. Because he knows his assignments and gets in the right place most of the time. He gets beat physically from time to time, and probably more often than the other guys do, but that happens. He's still a middling OT in a league where OTs are at a fair premium. He's a team guy and a well-liked member of the best OL in football. Because he's a whipping boy and the obvious target for the next OL upgrade, he gets more than his fair share of abuse, but that's ok. He'll either move to swing tackle or off the roster next season, and we'll be able to replace him without all that much trouble.

All in all, he was a good value for a 4th round pick.

He is a turnstile....who cares what round he was drafted in?....... we gave him a 4yr/32m second deal we instantly regretted.....we only kept him because he was a sunk cost

It was still Free's man that beat him to edge caused Romo to leave the pocket and still chased him down and crushed him.....Free had a great view at least

Dallas is 5-1, and it is the bye week. Some fans need something to complain about. If it's not the defense or pass rush, Wilcox, used to be about Mo, throw some Jerry and Jason in there.
So they revert back to Doug Free.
Enjoy the success to this point.

Reminds of the yearly reviews at work places. You can do 1000 right, save the companies money, but yet they need to find that one minor thing to put on your review to negate all the good so you can't get a merit increase in pay, or get a lower one. That one negative thing can be, you were late 2 minutes one day due to a traffic accident. Regardless that everyone else was 5 minutes late. Which was not on their review.
What's this do for next years cap if we cut Free next year ??????

If you were right that he's a turnstile, I'd agree it wouldn't matter which round he was drafted in.

And no team in the league expects its OLs to block their guy indefinitely.

Thanks, and Thanks for being our capologist. Adam used to do cap stuff then he quit. It's good to know where the money is and where it is going and how much Dallas has to spend.
thanks.......there was so much mis-information w/o Adam that I had to do it for myself and I ended up being fascinated by it all

XWalker, Bluefin and some others are really helpful as well

Is this a baby step toward something greater. Do we do a few more of these prior totl the trade deadline to make a splash trade for that pass rusher that puts us over the top??? Oh dear Lord please let it be so!!!

Free has one problem, and that is with fast outside rushers.
The coaches should know this and give TE help on passing plays.
If left on his own he will get beat by those guys.
He used to be good run blocking, havent looked at that this year though.

They did that for some reason, they may have their eye on some player they want.

He's the weakest lineman among our starters but he's about average for the league. Average lineman win their battles about half the time.

We have just gotten incredibly spoiled with Smith and gang.
