Doug Free

Dude, eat a Snickers!!
LoL,,,It won't help.
666 isn't all bad but he's a bit overbearing in his opinions as it comes across,,, believe it or not, he's gotten better at not coming across in as caustic of fashion ,I run about 50-50 in agreement on his posts.

Lots of people hated him... I think not having him around could have been one of biggest reasons with some of the struggles on the oline. Thoughts?
100%. I was concerned when he abruptly announced his retirement. The OL was not the same without the "weakest link".

Free was a good player. He got older and he naturally declined. He was never the most physically gifted, so when his body started to decline it was hard for him to overcome his limitations. I'd gladly take him as a swing tackle though. :)

Both what I said and what you said can actually be true. I never said Free was a great player, or suggested that it wasn’t time for him to retire. I said he was criminally under appreciated by a community that routinely considered him ‘garbage.’ And he was.

Don’t compound your bad post by trying to tie it to the Garrett debate again. This isn’t a Garrett thread.
just commenting on your ability to defend the indefensible- never works very well but it is amusing how much you can contort yourself
Criminally under appreciated was Romo NOT Free. Free - which you conveniently seem to forget- kept having up and down seasons. Until the last when he really stank it up

his last year he stank it up as bad as Green did this year and you want him back? What are you some kind of Skins or Philthy fan?

Free gave up 9 sacks all season (which is bad). Green gave up 6 in one game. To be fair, i would take a bowling pin over green.

You do realize Free was third worst of all tackles in the NFL giving up Sacks and Pressures his last season?

I think Free was missed in the run game as that was his strength, initiating the contact. He was a liability when he had to pass protect and blocked air too much.

They missed Leary more than Free as he was the tone setter, the bad attitude of the OL.

What they missed the most was the cohesiveness and continuity of the OL and there were times you could see they were out of sync and thinking too much.

I am not sold the LG or RT position is adequately filled. That chain is only as good as the weakest link.

what they needed was time to practice together as a unit but the stupid BS of trying to turn Green into a guard delayed that and then the injuries started.

Doug Free for o-line coach 2018 lol

Oh i know that. My point is Green makes Free's last year look more tolerable... And free was bad in 16.
To give the guy his due he played hard but his body had been giving out= his ankles and feet had been problems for a while and for someone without that much natural power that was a huge factor. To be blunt the Boys missed how close he was to the end or they would never have gone into 2016 with him as the starter. Got to credit BB for knowing when to let a guy go a year early rather than a year late. But then he is a real cold SOB and that probably comes easy to him.

We're speaking the same language buddy.
I thought he was a good leader and player until his body couldn't take it any more. I wanted to start Collins at tackle before 2016 began so they could get Leary On the field and have the best 5 OL. The swing tackle situation is awful and they got to address it. Somebody that can fill in moderately well and not get Dak killed.
Dak wasn't the same after the Falcons game.

Free overstayed his utility by 2 years...... he was a turnstile at the end..... no rueage here

Free was a good player. Problem is, we paid him like a great player. However, give the man his due, he took a major paycut in a restructure when he proved to not be anywhere near as good as he was paid.

Good guy, good player. No reason to rag on the guy.

Free was under rated by most fans.
He was a great run blocker. Pass protection he had his idssues, but wasn't as horrible as most believed.

Collins will be fine, he moved from OG to OT. And Leary played more OG that Collins did.
So could this have been considered a rookie year at OT for Collins. I think we will see a big improvement on a good year he already had.

and hopefully no back problems
