Drafting for a particular position always ends up BADLY

I see EVERYONE saying that we need to draft a WR cause the ones we have now are getting old but I must state that drafting by position almost never works what we should do is get the best possible talent at the 22nd regardless of position. If its a WR thats dandy but drafting a WR cause we wanted a WR would be a mistake

What a team wants to always do is take the BPA.

However many times that is just not realistic when they have a position of need.

The best scenario is to take the BPA who also happens to be a need position.

This year that could very well be a WR, CB or FS. It could be an LB.

Just don't know.

Most figure that there will be one of the better players who happens to be a WR this year at our spot which would cover a situation to help us in the future with the age of Terry and TO.

This is NOT a situation where we have to draft O-Lineman (like rogers and peterman) or DBs (like Goodrich, Super Mario and Larrimore) This is not us taking QC as a need position.

For the first time, in a LONG time, we are looking pretty good going in and many believe that WR happens to be a position that will be of need and also BPA at our spot.

Drafting the best player available is a good catch phrase, but it is ridiculous to think a team should ONLY draft BPA.

For example, say Adrian Peterson was rated BPA when the Bucs, Cards and Skins picked. They decidedly don't need to draft a RB, especially not one in the first round.

You draft BPA all the time regardless of position, you end up with Clinton Portis, Ladell Betts and Adrian Peterson in the same backfield and the same old crap on the defensive side.

To be fair... I have seen several different opinions on this board of which position is the most important to address. I don't think WR necessarily gets more play on this board than Safety, OL, or to a lesser extent, DT and CB.

I agree with everything said already. You wouldn't pick up a QB in the first even though it's the BPA because that will create all kinds of problems. QB controversy, Romo looking over his shoulder, too much salary for a back-up that you hope never sees the field, etc... It's (for most teams I think) a flexible scale based on need and talent level available. Like if Calvin Johnson falls to Washington, there will be a lot of debate. DL needs the attention but CJ is THAT good of a player...
