Almost had a deal? We have no idea how close they were or weren't.

The sticking point is obvious: Dez wants $40m guaranteed like other top WR. I don't think the Cowboys were ever close to that.

Cowboys are in a bit of a pickle. Wells has been telling them and anyone else who will listen that Dez is trouble for years. He is their security contractor. Dez has now rejected Wells in dramatic fashion serving cease and desist orders demonstrating very clearly what his position on Wells is.

Do you trust Wells who is telling them that Dez is trouble or do you trust Dez who keeps on saying that he has done nothing wrong?

ThrowUptheX produced nothing that I can see last season during Dez's monster year. He has been waiting to talk about what it means for over two years and nothing.

There is something I don't understand.................Dez is freaking 27 yrs old, why the hell does he have to have a babysitter at this point?

The team either needs to decide if Dez is worth $40 million or not. The franchise tag this year is $13 million and if they franchise him next year, it is 120% of the previous year salary or in Dez's case $15.6 million. So they are going to pay Dez potentially $28.6 million over 2 seasons but not paying $40 million over 6 or 7 years? Doesn't make any sense when you start doing the math. Add to that you can only franchise a player twice, so if we tag Dez this year and next, then he becomes and Unrestricted FA and will probably walk after being forced to play under the tag two consecutive years. Even if we match any offer he gets, he could just say "F you guys for tagging me, I'm out" and we could not do a thing about it.

So the decision needs to be made, are we signing Dez long term or renting him for two seasons?

I agree with most of that, but you can tag a player more than twice. The third time is 144% of the previous year or the QB tag which ever is greater. So it would be over 20m, which is not really feasible.

If Dallas offered 7/91m with 35m guaranteed they would probably have a deal. If he balks at that, then it is probably not going to happen. Just tag him this year and explore trading him next year under the tag again.

yea, but why not just pay the man now? They would have already paid like 70% of what it would cost for a 6-year deal, guaranteed that is. Lets see, give him 28 for two years or 45ish for 6? A no-brainer for me. There has to be multiple problems on his side of the bargaining table and may want quite a bit more........maybe like 60 guaranteed, IDK.

Thanks for the info, I was under the impression 2 times was the limit. However, if the 3rd time is the QB tag, I highly doubt any non-QB in the league would ever receive that. So for all intense and purpose, realistically you can only tag a non-QB twice.

If they ultimately decide not to sign him long term, they need to trade him next year in order to get something or him.
